Currently doing a application for target. Everything fine up until this:

Are you under the age of 25? If yes, please answer yes if either of the following situations applies to you:

Situation 1:

In the past 6 months, I have not attended a secondary, technical or postsecondary school for more than an average of 10 hours per week, not counting periods during which the school is closed for scheduled vacations.

And

I do not have a high school diploma or GED certificate

Or

Situation 2:

In the past 6 months, I have not attended a secondary, technical or postsecondary school for more than an average of 10 hours per week, not counting periods during which the school is closed for scheduled vacations.

And

I have a High-School diploma or GED Certificate awarded more than 6 months ago and I have not attended or been admitted to a technical or post secondary school. I also have not held a job (other than occasionally) since receiving my High-School diploma or GED Certificate.

Mind you I am under 25 (22 to be exact)
Graduated High School in 2007.
Went to college (DeVry University) from 2007-2010
And been working on and off (some volunteering jobs) since then....

I don't think I apply to either situation yet...it still says say yes if your under 25......
Can someone help me with this? Don't want to give the wrong answer...

Situation 1.
I haven't been in school at all in the past 6 month (let alone all last year)..... yet I have my high school diploma in 2007.

Situation 2.
I haven't been to school in the past 6 months (let alone all last year)
My High school diploma was awared to me more then 6 months ago... (almost 5 years to be exact)
But I've been employed since then.

It just gives you one option of yes or no for the entire thing.
Which do I choose? I'm under 25.....yet neither of the situations 100% apply to me....

What exactly are they trying to figure out when they ask this?

Let me be more accurate when it comes to my work experience.
Since High school I've had the following:
1 full time
1 on call
1 Volunteer/part time

IT funny because before that in the education portion they actually ask you if you graduated at the schools you put down.......

Situation 2 would fit me more but it's not 100% true since:
1. I've had a job since I graduated high school.
2. I have been admitted to a school once before...

So only 1/3 true.....

They make stuff complicated....no other applications i've seen ever asked anything like that....

Well it's funny because on the page all it says is (what I wrote up top)

Then at bottom

YES O
NO O

Enter to continue.

So I only have two choices haha. I could just say no....but the first part specifically says

"Are you under the age of 25? If yes, please answer yes if either of the following situations applies to you:"

I'm under 25 but neither situation fully applies to me......darn you target for making me confused early this morning lol

I think imma going to print the screen out and go over there myself and ask to see what they say.

Honestly, going there is the best idea just because they might see your interest and give you an impromptu interview.

I'm assuming it's an online application, they don't read every answer anyway. Just pick the 2nd one and you'll be fine. Once you get an interview and they ask you about it in person then you can explain.

Very true however depending on the company sometimes their computer system do have a filter when it comes to applications.....depending on what you select for certain questions will sometimes automatically kick your application out of the list of applicants.....just depends but can't be fully sure on which company does it...

whatever happened to (what is your highest level of education)

The funny thing about that is in the section before this....it tells you to list your education....where it was......degree,etc and your status (did you graduate, still enrolled, etc)

So this question is sort of irrelevant......especially since:
1. even before education it ask you your employment history
2. it ask you if your status for school
3. It ask my birth date

So you'd think the interior of the application (or i guess calculator) could atleast answer that question givin the information I provided prior to it.....

Just answer no. It says answer yes IF either apply to you. They don't, answer no.

No, read it again. It says if you are under 25 answer yes if these apply to you.

Answering no would not indicate he is over 25, it would indicate he is either over 25 OR neither apply to him.

But then that would imply he's older than 25.

"Are you under the age of 25? If yes, please answer yes if either of the following situations applies to you"

If you are under 25 AND one of the following situations applies answer YES

otherwise answer NO

the correct answer is NO.

The question could have been worded a lot better, but it is indeed clear on what it wants.

Would of done much better. I grasp English but sometimes how some companies write stuff throw me off....glad I'm not the only one...

However I've had applications with moree detailed questions but they thoroughly stated what answer to select for certain situation (Like if the question half way applied to you or something that wasn't fully there)

Phone them and ask them. You're not stupid, you're just looking for clarification.

Just don't tell them who you are, LOL. Just say you got a copy of their application, and you want clarity on a question.

Good luck. See if that helps.

It is written pretty terribly. And it's unlucky, too, because maybe they don't really read the online applications all that closely. But, maybe they do. And maybe the person reading it has an idea (right or wrong) of what the question is asking - and if you answer it incorrectly, your app could go straight to the trash. But while they might say, "can't read - skip it," as someone who needs a job, you can't just say, "can't write, skip it."

Although that would be SO VERY NICE.

Mostly asking about school and do you attend now or have intrest in doing so any time soon, in other words they want to know if they give you a job will you need to have special schedule or some other accommodation to be able to work there. It doesn't mean high school.

Eh I just went ahead and clicked no since neither situation applied to me.

I did think the questionaire part was funny...they think they was slick.

The answers choices where mostly like this:
Definately Agree
Somewhat Agree
Somewhat Disagree
Definately Disagree

Then on some of them they'd switch it around to read
Definately Disagree
Somewhat Disagree
Somewhat Agree
Definately Agree

Corporate application or site specific? Maybe they're testing you to see if you comply or ask questions? Sucks that they're basically already antagonizing you before you even start work.

I'm certain the intention is to prevent people form just clicking the same one every time without reading.

That was on the target site itself. For hourly positions.
And yea I figured that too but either way those questions seem....kind of silly...

Even "if" wasn't truthful about my answers (like for someone who missed alot of days of the year at work) They could just say they only missed a few... of course they can always call your past employers but still to clarify that but still....

I answer the questions truthfully but all someone could just easily choose the more logical response for a question....even if they themselves don't believe it's the right answer...

And alot of times those questions are asked a second time just worded in a different way....

Like:
Do you consider yourself a tidy person?

*questions later*

How would you compare your cleanliness compared to your friends/coworkers?

That's just about asking the same thing but in a different way....

1, Not applicable. You are a HS grad.

2, Not applicable. You have held a job. Several in fact.

Therefore the answer to the question is no.
