Superstitions in FFXI!
I always felt like if I mugged or stole from an NM, then that lowers my % of the item I want to drop.
I carried the 4 leaf bud for years... then I ate it by accident >.>
Whenever doing any sort of run, whether it's dynamis, or fighting vw nms, don't ever say anything like "This is going really well" or "wow, we haven't wiped once" because that is an instant jinx.
If an item is desirable, I will only lot below a 300.
If I lot a crap item for shits and giggles, 997. I sometimes wonder if I have a hidden luck -30 stat for getting jailed 8 years ago. Whenever I dont get a drop, or low lot, I always hear a little SE JP man laughing at me... why is that? THF has to get the killing blow to get drops.
I'm often amazed at the rumors about Arch Dynamis Lord. Like, changing his .dat to identify the real clone (done that. It changes all of them), certain shell bragging they go 4/4 in 1 run without 2-hrs from Smn's.. Idk how many times I've called bs since the inception of the 99 relic trial!
I used Sneak Attack + Steal (from behind him, of course) to win my Maat fight on THF. Can never go back now :P
lucky egg + 4leaf clover = better drops
Way way back in the day my old LS leader insisted that who ever was thf on Fafnir HAD to SA ws on its tail to make it drop ridill. My first Fafnir i was told by him to stay out of the alli and not to cure, just raise. Sure as hell soon as they claimed he SA Mercy stroke and flailed everyone. Good times!
Surprisingly, Azure Lore hasn't been mentioned yet.

Carbuncle.Aeonknight said: » THF has to get the killing blow to get drops. My very old Sky LS had about the same superstition. But it was that the party of the ally that had the THF in it had to get the kill to get the drop. We stacked the DD into the THF part of the ally just so they would get the kill. Dead taru = better drops, this is scientificly proven.
Thf MUST get the killing blow. Clap or cheer at any coffer b4 opening, stand in said coffer. And some that havent been mentioned yet that I still do to this day... Craft in the correct direction IN your mog house, (gotta be a reason you can craft in there right?) The proper music MUST be playing for the proper events, Deadmau5 (or similer) for dyna, reggae for VW and any classic rock for abyssea. The wrong music = bad drops, nuff said. Thief always opens chests in Limbus. Even chests that have no items in them, such as a restore chest and time chests.
When I was a wee little level-12-something noob, I camped Leaping Lizzy for like 4 hours and then some level 75 ran through and killed her before I got to her. I /slapped them because I was oh, so heartbroken. Then the next time I went to camp her, she didn't pop for hours again, and I was convinced that a GM had seen me slap the 75 and was keeping Lizzy from popping to punish me. Completely convinced. I never slap anyone now, ever, unless I am joking with them. xD And Evilbob is right on crafting inside, I swear it! If anyone sees you craft, your chances of breaking increase by 5,000. If no one sees you craft, your chance of hq'ing increases by .002. It's true. xD
ffxiah supersition: If you post in a topic and no one else posts after a maximum time of 5 minutes, you have broken the thread and you are bad and you should feel bad.
Rumor has or "had" it, when 14 came out...that the Developers back in the Homeland, we're going to give 11, a few more months or maybe a year after the complete road map was laid out, that 14 would have to be our answer, and we would have to upgrade our accounts( after SE would volunteer a transfer if we go to 14)... and 11 would close.
0.o just a rumor anyways.. so I was told. A "Transfer" was always impossible.
So I once heard
I still think the best superstition I have seen in the game is no if, and, or buts, pants MUST be off before a BCNM or void watch chest is opened.

I also believed when I first started playing that killing the monster with a weaponskill actually improved my drop rate. Kinda funny to find people out there felt the opposite way. I NEVER do a WS blowshot on a mob. WS -> no drop!
Asura.Ina said: » I carried the 4 leaf bud for years... then I ate it by accident >.> doesn't seem like superstition... but it might be.
any item i am after the game won't give me, if i don't want the item i go 1/1 seems more realistic to me. One-shotting stuff always gives the best drops when farming things, and, if it doesn't see you, it's even better. I still do the crafting compass just out of habit. Back in the day when I first started, I thought to myself, if there is or isn't anything to it, still can't hurt.
