Thank you! I have been trying to remember the name of some other Sega CD games I played back in the day. This is one of them.

I still own my Sega Genesis and Sega CD, btw.

My one recommendation is the original Mass Effect. Story-telling and atmosphere at its finest.

Some were bad but there were a lot of great games people forget about. I spent too many hours on sewer shark, night trap and Black Hole Assault when I should have been playing others more.

I still enjoyed it :D I also liked when Draylo had Aya as a avi. That new chick gives me the creeps for some reason.

On topic: If you haven't played dragonage, I would recommend it highly. I sank weeks into that getting all the trophies (I did like 10 playthroughs and then 3 more "fun builds"); and that was BEFORE getting the DLC. I bought dragonage II but haven't played it at all yet (between that and xenogears i'd never finish my relic).

I loved both Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II. I know a lot of people weren't as enamoured with II, but I dug it none-the-less.

Origins has taken its place as one of my favorites of all-time, though.

So many play throughs. Just did another recently and dug into II again.

The Last Remnant for PC is really good. It's a much improved version over the LOLbox360's. Many people don't like it simply because they can't get used to the battle mechanics mainly since there's hardly a tutorial and you have to learn everything in the game pretty much. It's a really lengthy game, I clocked up to 100 hrs on one playthrough... And I started a second playthrough (new game+).

It's mainly side quests and you can miss some of them out after each new storyline 'phase' which kinda sucks but it's kind of like Skyrim and Oblivion where no-one cares about the main story.

Anyway... the battles are really good when you get the hang of it but there are still some rare monsters you can fight that will completely own you if you don't have the right party setup and formation. Different formations have different stats for each one you pick but the stats also depend on who you have in the party. So if you picked an offensive formation with magic focussed people you're not gonna get any stats at all. You unlock different formations through quests and challenges.

You hire people to join your party and can eventually have up to 18 units which can fit in up to 1-5 parties of your choice. Less parties with more people in them mean higher hp per group but means they can get flanked easier by lots of enemies. These 18 people you can hire (you can hire more than 18 but can only use 18) can be normal units from guilds or leaders you can get from completing quests but by having more leaders in your unions means the certain mobs that scale will be harder.

Pretty graphics (unreal 3 engine), good fps performance, comical battle chat, very nice OST if you're into that stuff, tons of quests, weapons and armour, characters and activites like mining with Mr.Diggs to do.

/Rant off -- It's a great game and if anyone tells you otherwise then they obviously don't have a clue (or have horrible taste)!

Quote of the game: Rush: LET'S KICK SOME A!!!

Don't look at the comments of that video, it has spoilers!

Oh yeah and you'll probably want to keep their wikia site bookmarked, it's very much like FFXI in that respect when trying to find an item. xD

I honestly don't know how Fallout can be considered an rpg.
How isn't it?
exactly, if anything, bioware and bethesda RPGs are true RPGs by nature. you create the char, assume the role, and make all the decisions.

JRPGs betray everything roleplaying is, and end up cliche anime action adventures full of niche tropes found almost in every JRPG known to man. fall for the obvious trap, trust the obvious villian, you move cliche teens through a scifi setting, and that isnt role playing at all.
Huh...?

So if Madden '13 had leveling and allocating stats and some tacked-on story for no reason, that'd be an RPG first and foremost? Huh. In fact, yeah! That'd be great! Dude, I'm talkin' ***' skill trees 'n' ***. Poison tackles and electric damage upon fumbling and-and-and a system to let you pause the game and pinpoint target the goal for your kick, power jumps to intercept those kicks, and dialogue choices to determine whether or not your teammate goes home and abuses his wife and gets kicked off the team for dogfighting. srs RPGing there. There'll be so much extra non-story-related content you'll almost forget there is a main story that's notable.

JRPGs, whether you like it or not, defined the genre. <_> Growing up, I played many of those RPGs, and those concepts are nothing but nostalgia to me. Most of the time with entertainment, it's dealing with the tropes you enjoy; all slasher movies are the same, for example. But people will go watch them because they enjoy it.

The only real difference between then and now in enjoying the games is that people get too pissy about what real games are and are manipulated by what others define as a good game. People used to be able to play games and form their own opinions. Now, it's, like, "D: This game is too linear! I want to do something else!" which used to be answered by "play another game."

It's basically an open ended shooter, the controls, the combat, the gameplay is all designed like a fps. What about it makes it an rpg and not a story driven shooter? On the flip side though, it's basically a replica of Skyrim w/o the guns and a different skin. I consider Skyrim more of an action/adventure than a rpg though.

Maybe my opinion of a rpg is too old fashioned, but I honestly think that calling Fallout an rpg is really stretching the term.
Next you'll be telling us how Deus Ex is a first-person shooter.
/rolleyes

Here's another good RPG you may of missed, had to read back to see if had anyone had mentioned it so I didnt repeat what someone had already suggested. But its not really being suggested here, he's just using it for comparison sake. So im suggesting it, get Deus Ex. The original 1st one I mean, prob cost about $4-5, its like a 12 year old game not really current gen, but its aged gracefully.

Haven't seen Nier mentioned here; I can't recommend this one enough. The graphics are a bit dated and the fetch quests are repetitive (but optional), but the soundtrack and storyline is amazing. It's easily one of my favorite games of this generation, and it's a shame its release was overshadowed by FF13 just a few weeks earlier in the US.

I don't think Witcher 2 has been mentioned, but definitely a game to try out. The "Enhanced Edition" is being released on April 17 for both PC and 360.

Its not exactly current Generation, heck its not even last Gen now, but 'Planescape: Torment' is still my favourite RPG of all time. I'd recommend it to anyone. Awesome and very engaging storyline, with a great (if somewhat wacky) cast of characters. Its the most engrosing and fantastic RPG I've ever played.

Awesome game! with great replayablity, love how the new game+ gives a new ending each time, as well as changes the main storyline ever so slightly.

Its actually the reason I started playing FFXI again after a 2 year absence, I got addicted to the fishing mini game, which is very similar to XI's. After that I couldnt shake the urge to reinstall XI and get addicted to my old pastime all over again!

Agreed, the original Deus Ex is pretty fantastic. I didn't play it until 2009, and it pretty much blew away everything else I had played at the time. That game holds up really well.

i disagree, DnD has had far more influence on the genre than any final fantasy, dragon warrior, etc.

JRPGs have been stale, and in decline over the years due to being stuck in their ways, and id be hard pressed to find an SE game fans call good within the last few years.

i meant dont get me wrong, i love them, but they just arent real RPGs to me.

Looks pretty legit, putting it on the list. I prefer a more fantasy style with my rpgs but its not like Im against trying new things.
