Any good RPG suggestions for current gen?
The Dragon Age and Mass Effect games would be worth adding onto you list. DA is Ps3/Xbox/PC, Mass effect 1 is only Xbox/pc so I'd suggest it on one of those since you save game carries over. There is also Skyrim which is worth checking out and Demon souls (PS3 only) and Dark Souls (PS3/Xbox)... I think there is a couple others I'm forgeting
I'll have to +1 Demon's Souls. It's such a solid dungeon crawler-type game that rewards you for smart play. It's also a game on which you can test your FFXI-learned patience skills! >.>
Not sure there's much more to offer for consoles other than what you posted, but the PC also has some decent current gen titles They're mostly "western" world games, though, or are hybrids worth playing. Examples are Deus Ex (rpg/shooter/square enix), dragon age 1 (action rpg), Witcher 1+2 (action rpg), Elder Scrolls: Skyrim.
I hear Dark Souls and Record of Agarest War are decent for PS3, but I personally don't know anything about them, since I don't own that console. Skyrim of course you have to be one of many to take an arrow to the knee.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. It's really awesome.
I think the last decent RPG I played for a console was Eternal Sonata (I've got the 360 version, but I think it's on the PS3 now too). It's not a bad game, the voice acting can be a bit grating at times but it's got an amazing soundtrack. The story was pretty decent from what I remembered. I got about halfway through before I had to stop playing for a while (moved recently and haven't got around to starting things back up.) Combat system was pretty neat too. You can get it fairly cheap too, under 20.00 for either version I think
Other than that I did have Fallout 3 which was pretty fun too. I personally find that I don't have the attention span for a full sit down RPG anymore so can't really offer any other newer suggestions. Though I have heard Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World is pretty good for the Wii. And well there's always Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword too lol, Nothing really "recent" besides Zelda, but good games none the less Shiva.Garlend said: » Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Tales of vesperia for the 360 is an excellent game, i suggest you try it
Be careful using IGN as a basis for reviews, they overrate almost every game they 'review'.
Have you played KOTOR? Tales of Vesperia is definitely my favorite JRPG this gen. I'm hoping Graces f will be as good.
Some other 360 JRPGs I enjoyed that weren't mentioned by others were The Last Remnant, Star Ocean 4, Resonance of Fate and Blue Dragon. I know some of these are not some peoples cup of tea but I liked them. Amazing soundtrack (Motoi Sakuraba), interesting story, bright and vibrant visuals, and the battle system gets exciting once you hit party level 5. English voiceover is definitely grating at times--except for Chopin [who is voiced by Patrick Seitz] and Jazz [who is voiced by D.C. Douglas aka Wesker]. >_> The Major from Ghost in the Shell lends her voice to a pirate boss; she provides one of the more memorable English voices. Also, it has a Japanese voice option; the Japanese voices are so passionate that it's cheesy, but that's something I enjoy. Also, the game is more linear than FFXIII. It's not a downside, but it can hurt some newer gamers' experience with RPGs. Oh, and it's 2-3 players, so if you have a buddy locally who wants to play, it can be very teamwork-friendly toward endgame. Xenoblade chronicles
Jeanne D'Arc was fun on PSP. It was like FFT mixed with Fire Emblem, without the hard. Not ground-breaking, but it was a good time killer for me on my flight to and from Boston.
Fallout 3 and Fallout Vegas. And Mass Effect for sure. Oh! Resonance of Fate. An interesting JP RPG. =d
Gonna read from my collection of games behind me.
Xbox: Blue Dragon (was ok) Dragon Age 1+2 (1 was good from what I remember.never played 2) Eternal Sonata (Loved it when it came out) Fallout 3 (a must play) Fallout: New Vegas (not as good as 3,but good none the less) FFXIII and XIII-2 (dont play either of these) Deus Ex Human Revolution (I'll include this because its in first person, but itplays more like an RPG than FPS) Infinite Undiscovery (dont play this) L.A. Noire (only because someone mentioned this, its a good game first playthrough.Has a ton of atomsphere, but can feel a bit samey) Lost Odyssey (a must play) Magna Carta 2 (it seemed decent.was only 2 hours in before my uncle took my copy and hasnt brought it back.....that was 2 years ago) Mass Effect 1 and 2 (1 > 2 because its pure retro sci fi.Great games.Play both,or AT LEAST the first) Phantasy Star Universe (if playing single player only.its a bit boring and easy.its an MMO online, but has seperate story mode) Resonance of Fate (I wish this game never exsisted) Star Ocean (have yet to play it since I got it 2 years ago but I hear bad things) Tales of Vesperia (YOU MUST PLAY THIS) Oblivion (good game at the time.bit dated because of Skyrim) Skyrim (MUST PLAY,but say goodbye to 200 hours of your life) The Last Remnant (I wish this also never exsisted) Two Worlds (I'm ashamed to own this) PS3: Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland (only played for a short time, but seemed good.I had other stuff to play when it came out) Disgaea 3 (didnt like it much) Heavy Rain (MUST PLAY.1 of the 2 games that makes me not regret buying a PS3) ICO/Shadow of the Colossus (Havent played yet,but people rave about these since the ps2) Valkyria Chronicles (2nd game worth having a ps3 for) White Knight Chronicles 1 and 2 (they arent bad,but feel like an MMO with a forced single player for the sake of it) Wii: Monster Hunter Tri (Cna tcomment, havent played yet,is monster hunter though :D) Both Zelda games (barely played either, cant comment) Xenoblade Chronicles (good game,if only I cba to play my wii again) PSP: Breath of Fire 3 (ps1 port, absolute MUST PLAY) FFVII Crisis Core (good game) Dragoneer's Aria (barely played, seems good though) Final Fantasy Tactics:War of the Lions (I could never get into any of the tactics games (this + GBA),maybe because we never got the original here in Ireland back in the day) Final Fantasy 1/2/4 (Play 1 and 4) Kingdom of Paradise (havent got around to playing.bought on day of PSP release, still in original packaging,so no idea) Metal Gear AC!D 1+2 (decent games if you like card based strategy) Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (havent played, but monster hunter) Phantasy Star Portible 1+2 (same as PSU on xbox, see above) Popolo Crios (havent played yet, original wrapping, day of release on psp,no idea) Persona 2 + 3 (only played 3 because it came out before 2 here, but it wsa amazing what I played of it) Silent Hill: Origins (surprisingly good for a psp game, yet to finish) Star Ocean First and Second Departure (updated remakes of the original 2 SO games, yet to play PSP versions, but originals were great) Tactics Orge (looks good, yet to play.more a strategy though) Tales of Eternia (yet to play) The 3rd Birthday (Y U RUIN PARASITE EVE square enix?!?!? avoid) Valkyria Chronicles 2 (yet to play,ps3 game was amazing though) Valkyrie Profile Lenneth (amazing game from what I played) White Knight Chronicles : Origins (yet to play) Do you have a 3DS or DS or anything? DS / DSI / 3DSI / GBA = Fire Emblem (all of them) , Final Fantasy (of course) , Pokemon (?) , and almost anything you can find XD
ff13-2 isn't worth it,(unless for some reason you liked 13) they made some changes, but the battle system is pretty much exactly the same, and the storyline still sucks....
If you consider Skyrim an rpg, its definitely the best 1 atm. on that list... get vesperia, you wont regret it
Xenogears, originally ps1 but now on psn.
