FFXI Widescreen Issues

After getting a new laptop and coming back to FFXI I've got some issues on making the game display in widescreen. I have tried changing the settings in both FFXI Config and Regedit. I tried setting the resolution to 1600 x 900 (with oversampling x2) and when I load the game it always loads in a small box and the settings in regedit default to 1280 x 720. If I change to 1600 x 900 in FFXI config the settings will default back to 640 x 480, or something close to that. I can maximize the window to take up the full screen, and the game itself looks fine, but the text is extremely stretched and blurred. =/

I've tried running in full screen mode at 1600 x 900 and I get the Direct 3D error which shuts down the game.

I also tried looking online at different solutions, and I've seen people saying that FFXI doesn't support widescreen, but I've also seen people saying changing the resolution to 1600 x 900 in regedit fixed it and it looks great.

Wondering if I should bother trying to reinstall the game or if there's something else I am doing wrong.

Are you using windower? Idk if the game supports it very well without that?
I've been using widescreens for years without any problems.
I've been using different resolutions over the years, not always widescreen resolutions (I play in window mode so I can switch between screens easily) and I just adjust the aspect ratio ingame so it looks ok on-screen.
(It does look funky on screenshots, however)

Config > Misc.2 > Background aspect ratio.
16:9 and 16:10 are good for widescreen. Mine is set to 16:9 hope that helps. :)

Yeah, I do use Windower. Oddly enough I just changed FFXI Config (like I always do) to 1600 x 900 and ran -without- Windower and it ran perfectly, in widescreen 1600 x 900, with no stretched text.

Checked the FFXI Config and the 1600 x 900 didn't default to 640 x 480 like it does when I use Windower. I didn't really mess with anything when I installed Windower on this laptop, maybe it has something to do with some setting there? =/

Edit - Just found the launcer_gui settings and that was what was causing the issue. XD I changed my settings to the right resolution there and it works fine now. Silly mistake on my part but at least I got it fixed, thanks.
