Just wanted to deliver this message from Producer Tanaka!

We’ve implemented the new macro palette onto the dev. server!

You can now enter up to 8 characters into the macro title box. We were unable to increase the max number of characters you can input in the macro editing menu. However, the title you input will be fully displayed now. If you are using a 1024x resolution or higher with the Windows version or using the HD mode for Xbox 360, these changes to the macro palette will be automatically switch over. If you are using a lower resolution, SD mode, or a PlayStation 2, the size of the macro palette will remain the original size. We weren’t able to launch this onto the Test Server this week, but we will be implementing it sometime next week. I hope you’re all looking forward to it!

Oh…did you notice the chat widget?
The developers have secretly been working on a new chat widget for Windows and Xbox 360 that will allow you to adjust the number of lines and width of the box. This will also be implemented onto the test server next week, so please try it out!

The chat log looks suspiciously like 14's look but fear not, they are allowing line width tweaking now on top of what looks like more vertical lines that we can now officially tweak (instead of chat log line programs that have been around for years).

Their testing resolution isn't very large at all though from the looks of it. Maybe its because everything is moved around but it looks small.

Camate here to bump this thread and bring you a message from Producer Tanaka

Along with the other high-res tweaks we’ve been making, we are currently looking into changing out the macro palettes to look like the below:

With this style you will be able to write longer titles.

Clicky to make larger

Aside from resolution purposes, stretching them out like that will allow a little more descriptive titles instead of abbreviating everything.

But frankly, the macro system in general is so primitive, I'm surprised they didn't overhaul it completely to begin with.

Maybe they'll finally consider adding more lines. Have they mentioned that in any of the other dev posts?

I don't want to sound like a broken record here, but I believe Camate at one point did say they cannot add more lines because of the PS2.

Please if I'm wrong correct me >.>;! I don't remember every single post lol.

I have not read any recent development of more lines though :(

If I recall they had a really funky command line looping system to essentially "chain" macros together so use of one would have it automatically jump to another so you won't have to press 3 different macros to fully adjust gear for various needs.

Troublesome and annoying, but at least it lets non PC players have a chance to be a little more tactful in their gameplay.

What would need to be done to actually upgrade from 360p to 720p (or w/e they call it that sony requires companies to convert to before they can move to the PS3, it was said in one of the many PS2 threads).

Would the actual texture and everything need to be upgraded, or could it simply be done with the UI being changed and upgraded?

If that is the case, just allow a mode setting where you get fewer macro buttons but they have 10, 15 or 16 slots. Surely it's a memory issue if anything so that would provide an acceptable solution if it is. Otherwise... screw the ps2 and just give it anyway.

They did eventually add that kind of thing. They are commands that can switch what macro pallet you are on so you can just spam the button but it's super annoying to set up and use properly. It's more like a band-aid just like being able to put /waits on the same line as another command.

I think they should pass these benefits on to those capable of using them, and use the inability to do so as incentive to get off a dated console.
It seems alienating to keep everyone on the same playing field as PS2 when so much more can be done, but won't just for the sake of one demograph.

I think this also might be a step toward moving the macro pallet out of the way of your status icons, as they said they would try to (but as always when they say they look into it it takes about 6 months to a year to actually do it)

They were off to a good start by increasing the resolution of various icon and making the new font for character and NPC names much easier to read at a distance, but why stop there? DarkShade, Emiko and Brandon already put together a UI significantly more superior and customizable than what SE has been able to do and waited to do for over 8 years.

I bet a bunch of players that second as script monkeys would be happy to volunteer without pay to get some stuff done in the game if SE would simply reach out to put these possibilities and changes into fruition instead of waiting ages to poke the idea with a stick then half-*** it upon release.

Aikar and the windower team is already evidence of that since most don't play anymore, but have contributed massively to the enjoyment and play-ability of a game they formerly were a part of and loved enough to keep working on passively.

***. Every time I see something like this, I want to sign into the forums and write up a post about needing more lines/more advanced macros, but I don't have my token at work, and when I get home I don't bother.

A cycle of hatred. :(

well look at it this way, your cast bar will no longer overlap your macro bar, not that you really need to look at the macro bar all the time, but having them overlap looks so shitty.

Would like auto-updating maps myself. They already sort of fixed this issue, press + when engaged and it pops up the clock and radar.

It's gonna be very nice for windower addons!
Can finally have recast in a spot where it wont be in the way of anything, if we can make the chatbox like that
