ICS is cake.... on Windows 7. I swear to god on XP it was an absolute hoe for absolutely no reason.
Saying that I think my copy of XP was fubar anyway, was nigh impossible to map network drives period.

Then again I think I know the reason and I need to go get my switch back from my friend. Bahamut.Jetackuu said: » get an unlimited data plan and tether He's Canadian Our providers suck balls and don't offer unlimited plans often, if they do, it's probably $150+ a month lol My PC was notorious for being "invisible" at LAN parties while still connected to games. Made very little sense and like I say, I blame the blatantly modded cracked copy of XP I used to use.
I could literally be in the labs at Uni happily setting up networks all day (degree in networking -.-), go home and watch my PC slap me in the nuts repeatedly refusing to perform the simplest of networking task. (eventually did most of my testing on linux or vmware lol) One thing I recall that stood out: 1. Everything hunky dory, managed to get IPX/SPX to work in Vista (command and conquer generals) woot. Network works as intended, now to set correct firewall rule and enable firewall 2. Firewall enabled, now everything borked, rule must be wrong so disable firewall. 3. .... everything is still borked.... wut??????? $%&*$&£^&$& 4. Reboot, back to step 1. -.- oh, I have really nice versions of my OS's :D
eww vista. ![]() Sorry to necro, but i need some advice on this topic. i need a dedicated 4G for my ffxi computer, and im monitoring my data transfer, and dual boxing, in b.glacier, i have S/R of 125/250 for each character, nothing else running on my machine, yet im still getting bandwidth readings like:
Code time DL UP Total 02/06/2012 13:47:27 29.3k 29.6k 58.9k 02/06/2012 13:47:32 28.3k 34.2k 62.6k 02/06/2012 13:47:37 26.0k 29.9k 55.9k 02/06/2012 13:47:42 17.7k 19.7k 37.4k 02/06/2012 13:47:47 31.3k 30.1k 61.4k 02/06/2012 13:47:52 41.2k 32.2k 73.4k 02/06/2012 13:47:57 38.1k 37.0k 75.1k is this normal? and how feasible is it to run ffxi on 4G, considering how often we need websites to even function in game. are there any truly unlimited 4G data plans to allow this? (not including phone tethering) edit: apparently it was recording transfer over the course of the 3 second intervals, and not recording once per interval, reducing it to 1s got me Code time DL UP Total 02/06/2012 14:03:31 13.5k 14.4k 27.9k 02/06/2012 14:03:32 7.0k 3.3k 10.2k 02/06/2012 14:03:33 5.3k 6.4k 11.7k 02/06/2012 14:03:34 7.5k 2.0k 9.5k 02/06/2012 14:03:35 6.5k 9.7k 16.1k 02/06/2012 14:03:36 5.1k 4.6k 9.7k 02/06/2012 14:03:37 3.3k 5.8k 9.1k 02/06/2012 14:03:38 7.7k 3.8k 11.6k 02/06/2012 14:03:39 17.6k 13.6k 31.2k 02/06/2012 14:03:40 4.8k 6.4k 11.2k 02/06/2012 14:03:41 3.3k 4.3k 7.7k even still, averaging 10kb/s is still ~850mb/day if left on 24 hours, how do the people who posted in this thread not touch their 5gb/limit? bumping, trying to make a decision on what to do and need advice x.x
I've been running dual XI and slight browsing on a samsung evergreen, however AT&T is starting to ***, I need to go set them straight that it isn't a smartphone.
but unless I try to open a bunch of pages at once it usually works (sometimes the phone or the computer I'm ICS'ing it through screws up but it's a quick fix, if you're connecting the phone directly to the computer you're using this on you'll be fine. (there's no 4g in this area, barely any 3g tbh...) It used between 5 and 15 Kbit/s for me.
Tronsy, you for sure won't go over 3GB/mo I used to run on a highspeed hub (upgrade from the stick) with a 3GB/mo plan. Leaving my account on almost 24/7 browsing webpages, watching youtube vids, running ventrilo and all that other wonderful stuff that comes with playing FFXI like a true addict. And never once went over that 3GB a month. If all you're going to be doing is playing FFXI and not browsing web pages while you're away from home then a 1GB/mo stick should be fine.
is there something im missing with the way you get charged for data? running 2 ffxi's and nothing else, if im averaging 9kb/sec total, my math worked out to 77gigs after 1 full month of 24/7. im sure thats not right, i guess i just dont know how data is charged. hell, when i even went to a webpage, my scanner picked up a 1-5mb data spike.
edit: oh wow, that was some terrible math, sad thing is, i calculated it at least 10 times. it came out to .77gb/month. double edit: lol that was .77gb a day, back to 23gb/month. i guess i'll just have to buy one and see how it works out, because the math dosent can anyone recommend a good device/carrier, id prefer a hotspot so i dont constantly have to have a dongle in my USB. i had my eyes on AT&T Mobile Hotspot Elevate 4G |
