I think it has

I updated then I played for about an hour then logged off. I'll probably give it another try in the nxt update or 2 but it still doesn't hold my interest. Although I'm glad to hear the diehards are enjoying themselves. ^^

Really? The game has finally captured my attention. The quests actually give you a sense of accomplishment and you can use the skill points rewards on any job! Pretty neat idea. Fighting is much more fun. I am level 27, but had a lot of fun during the 25-27 levels with this past update.
I say give it a chance now. :) I cant wait for the next update.

Played the game and I was loving it to bits now. The no stamina system made it more enjoyable.

Can you do /search [insert name here] or /sea all 1-50 etc yet? Because if not then its just annoyingly stupid to find people.

Search function is still ***, which is probably the one thing that takes this from 'you should play it if you don't have anything else to play' to 'okay now this should be your primary game'
If you could build parties in 15 minutes rather than 2 hours, yeah that would be boss.

Yeah still the best option for making parties is to shout in the most populated city... I wonder whats taking them so long to remake the search function..
So far each change has been for the best, even with some still needing tweaking, the game is going in the right direction but still has a ways to go. :s

I love how people get this crazy notion that they can really, truly decide that they love/hate a game based on a single hour of gameplay.
Hell, it takes me damn near an hour to finish a few quests.
To that end, the first few hours of FFXI when I first started playing sucked hard. FFXI was absolutely brutal to get going. Level 1, no subjob, trying to grind.. grind.. grind.. slowly working to Valkurm Dunes range.. getting there and getting bad party after bad party, or parties where you join and two hours later you finally get everyone together so that you can get into one fight against a Snipper, wipe, and have everyone disband..
Just getting to Level 18 so you could get your subjob unlocked seemed like it was nearly impossible without having a power leveler to help you out.
You really needed to stick with FFXI if you wanted to have any fun with it.
FFXIV is slowly evolving to become the game it needs to be. I've played since October and have noticed the positive influence of the new development team, despite everyone's constant need to berate and criticize their hard work.
It still needs work, this much is true. But in the end, this game will be worth every ounce of the wait I believe.

Unmei should probably keep his mouth shut anyway because, up until recently, he was the worst of the "diehards"...

Played this since Alpha round 1. Logged in for about 1-2 hours after each new improvement up till now and then logged out. Last time I was online I tried shouting for a Linkshell since that would be something that would keep me online and guess what? No one wanted me since I was like level 15 or something. Even old Linkshell members from FFXI days avoided me since they were 50 and all... Never logged in anymore since then.

That's an LS destined to fail and fall apart quickly.. I dunno about other servers but there's plenty of shouts daily of LS's looking for members, same difference really, only even very large LS's usually only have a few sacked members, if they're shouting it means someone with a sack is in the area they're shouting, just because you shout doesn't mean there's someone with a sack and the power to recruit there..

Linkshells destined to fail? Sorry but I'm not talking about FFXI endgame linkshells in 2006. Anyway, there was even a nice person who seemed knowledgable and noticed that I didn't get into any linkshell and gave me the advice to level up first and maybe people would invite me.
So yea, grinding myself without any form of social contacts killed it for me. If there are linkshells shouting on your server, good for you. Guess I'm just unlucky since I never saw any shout.

Waiting on ps3 release but i really hope they will push the date back as far as they can. Screw any release date based on xmas or other games expansion releases. They've shot themselves in the foot once they must not do it again. Would bad reviews for ps3 kill this game? Idk but it would be a big threat to it's survival no question.
I'm glad they are currently fixing/changing tons of stuff. I remember being a bit skeptic when SE would respond with "ppl will fall in love with the world we've created" when asked something like what was the main draw point to FFXIV. I mean "gameplay > the rest" in videogames imo.
I was also quickly worried about no auto-attack, fixed, having the game mostly be about getting cards from a crystal and then go do what's on the card (laaaaaaaame), fixed~. Lately it was the copy-pasted scenery which they said they will fix (woot).
I'm now looking forward to be playing this game more than ever but please SE take your time to release the ps3 version. You need to almost shock the gaming world with how much better the game is now compared to when it came out on PC. Cause right now the average MMO player thinks FFXIV is garbage. If i wasn't following the news about it and only saw the 4~/10 reviews it got i would think so too.
So fix all the major issues and add a good amount of new content, then release it. Not the other way around please. Dress to impress!

Nor am I.. I'm talking about a linkshell that will dry up and everyone will move on leaving only a few members regularly checking in within a month.. I got tired of jumping from linkshell to linkshell, so maybe I'm just biased, but I'd rather just stay a loner than join a LS that's going to end in a month or less.. I learned a lot soloing, rather than having someone tell me stuff and have it go in one ear and out the other, it's committed to memory.. Not sure what 'secret rank up technique' you got, but it's basically been the same since beta.. leves, leves, grind, behest, grind.. Without a level up static, you're basically doomed to months of tediousness to get from 1 to 40ish.. Could be sooner if you did nothing but grind, but if I did that, I'd probably wanna quit the game.

I have to agree with Psycho. You can not find a good LS without some effort, and it is better that way. It took me a week to find and get accepted into mine and it was well worth it! Now I always have people to chat to, leve with, etc.
Nobody is going to want some guy who is annoyed at the fact he can't find a linkshell right away running around spamming 'Can I join a LS?' Sorry, most good ls's want to see more dedication in their prospective members than that.

1) What server should a person look forward to joining?
2) Is there Mac support?
There is no mac "support" but it will probably run..
The game gets a gold rating on Wine under Linux. (Wine is a native Win32 environment on Unix, it a full speed environment and is not emulation, but it's also incomplete.)
Since OS X is Unix, Wine should work the same. There are instructions here http://wiki.winehq.org/MacOSX/Installing

Omg You totally need /tell me! We can raise hell together! >:D Slow reply is slow, but I'll /tell you =)
also, yeay for my first FFXIVPRO friend on the same server~
ok. this may sound silly. i <3 my FFXI and nothing can replace it. however. i'm in the mood for something different, yet has that final fantasy feel. iv played it during open beta... it was... well... i liked the crafting system!...
so. its had some time to simmer and hopefully most of the bugs worked out. which is one thing that i just couldn't take in beta.
i saw some interesting things with version 1.18 update. such as removing the fatigue system, this only inspired me more to play, get 100% productivity 100% of the time!
and not to mention i can get a copy from gamestop for only $15
my question is.
did this update save the game?
is it still free to play?
