ok. this may sound silly. i <3 my FFXI and nothing can replace it. however. i'm in the mood for something different, yet has that final fantasy feel. iv played it during open beta... it was... well... i liked the crafting system!...

so. its had some time to simmer and hopefully most of the bugs worked out. which is one thing that i just couldn't take in beta.

i saw some interesting things with version 1.18 update. such as removing the fatigue system, this only inspired me more to play, get 100% productivity 100% of the time!

and not to mention i can get a copy from gamestop for only $15

my question is.

did this update save the game?
is it still free to play?

Still free to play, saved the game? Kinda hard to say, it's only one major update in what is supposed to be a long line of major, game changing updates.

I'm not sure if the Auto-attack system just feels weird because it's new, or if it just plain feels weird, but right now, to me, after having spent months of time playing this game, it just doesn't feel right.. I thought with all the WS spamming I wouldn't really feel disconnected from the game, but I do.. I mean most of the time I have to sit there and watch my weapon just to see if I'm even attacking, and quite few times so far I've found out I haven't been..

i mean. the game was great when i played beta. just the slow menus drove me nuts. and i liked that it was something different and WOW was it shiney!

XI is great an all. but i dont think there is much SE can do to it without droping PS2 support unless its "recycleing" zones which... well... is getting old

like i sed. nothing can replace XI and its game play. unless SE makes XI-2 (no PS2 holding it back!) and be able to port XI content would be pretty amazing! but considering that most likely wont happen.

it wouldn't hurt to get an early start on XIV

Yes, but it still needs work. This past update was the skeleton of the game. Now, we need the organs...

They fixed a lot of the bugs

Added end game

Added some features

There is a lot of work that still needs to get done before its called "OK"

SO if you want to start now...your doing it to get ahead of the pack...that is all

If you enjoyed beta. It is night and day better. They did not gimp xp/sp. Me and a small light party were grinding La Noscea crabs for 300+ each. Thats a faster rate then anything before.

FFXIV is becoming potent with ever update. It is soon to shine.

I'm really happy with 1.18. I had low expectations so they exceeded what I thought we'd get. I'm really happy with it though and I love the new battle changes. It feels much more familiar and organized.

whats the best way to get skill points? having a 50 kill stuff for you?

or is there an optimal party size and target mob level for decent xp? I'm not very hardcore about this game and all I did before was behests and leves for xp as i'm only 26conj now after a day of dungeoning

Fondue, i had a light party of 5 members in the low to mid 20s fighting super easy Billies and Crabs out in the field. They were 25-30 and giving us 300-400sp each. At the rate we were storming through them, SP has never been this generous. Your complaint is mute.

i think you meant "Your complaint is moot", though it's not entirely accurate to use it that way either.

Thank you for correcting my grammar. Your imput to the OP has been greatly beneficial.

Anyway, those concerned with SP, its not a matter of being 'nerfed', it's just been relocated and balanced so we aren't doing Dunes over and over. Get out there and find the sp that suits your playstyle.

There is, and it works well besides some needed refinement.

Thing is, no one uses it when shouting in town is easier, and takes less hassle. If everyone used it I think it would work great.

What i want is like an icon next to you name showing your qued in finder and looking to party. That way ppl know to find you.

You may try Rift for a change. FFXIV has long way to be fixed, if it stays alive of course.

They're not going to drop support for it, I feared that because of how bad they're doing as a company in the financial dept. but it's just the opposite.. They've decided to focus their effort on their MMO's, which includes FFXIV.. It's not going anywhere.

I'm really excited to finally be able to get into FFXIV soon. I bought it, but I didn't have a pc to play the game on all this time. I'm really glad this game is coming together, I miss that sense of adventure I had when I started FFXI and I greatly look forward to it in the coming months when I start up.
I miss the sense of adventure I had when I was in Linkshell: Ni when BETA was opened and me and others from the site went to explore the world.. There are some breath-taking sites to see.. Like when you're coming down the mountain road from Uldah on your way to Horizon and you get a nice clear view from a good vantage point of the landscape.. It's amazing.

But I pretty much know all of the game now, so there is no more adventuring to be had =/..

Glad to see people interested even with its rough reputation. Its becoming a great game and i'd recommend it to any FF fan. It's def worth tring and finally seeing things being implented, although suddle, has made the game shine to me again. I met Cid, argued with Ifrit, and wiped in a party with 7 other skilled R50s in this latest dungeon.

XIV is slowly earning it's name. It will be around as long as we are. :)

Found the beasts, have found imperial factory, even so it's only a minor addition, I didn't mean I've seen every square inch of the game, I meant I know the landscape of all the zones (that are open) so there's no really a lot of "Oh what's this?" when I'm out and running around, like it was when I first started playing.
