Opinion again, and publishing is pretty much doing everything you're complaining about: financing, researching advertising and marketing (pay-to-play model would fall under this).

I guess you're just ignoring all of the NA/EU private servers, then?

I could imagine it being most popular with Korean players, but it's extremely popular with American players— going so far as being able to afford TV commercials a year or two ago.

Monster hunter was pretty beast, but after the first one, all the rest were just reskins, which sucked, but they were still fun as hell. Especially on psp running on the ps3 adhoc server. It was real popular before NA got an english version of adhoc.

RealLife is going to be obsolete in twenty years because its hardware will become ancient.

Arenanet are an american based company and therefore implemented none of the common tropes that are apparent in Korean games. NCsoft had no hand in development. I suggest you learn the difference between developers and publishers.

NCsoft is the parent company of ArenaNet, which means they answer to and run everything through them. And you're delusional if you don't think a publisher has a say in how a game makes money-- especially F2P/P2P MMOs.

From this page:
Wikipedia said:
Because the publisher usually finances development, it usually tries to manage development risk with a staff of producers or project managers to monitor the progress of the developer, critique ongoing development, and assist as necessary.

I've given you examples of good Korean MMOs. At this point, I can't really help if you have some issue with Korea that's making you hate their games.

/sigh

Really? I suggest you go read up on GW's development. NCsoft didn't assist with anything, hence it being the only good game that NCsoft has published. Most of GW had been developed before NCsoft were even the publishers as Arenanet are an old offshoot from Blizzard. (Called triforge at the time)

Also:

"On September 10, 2008, NCsoft announced that all their North American and European subsidiaries, including ArenaNet, were to be governed by a new division named NC West (a tentative name), headquartered in Seattle, Washington. ArenaNet will no longer report directly to NCsoft Korea."

Hence the game having no Korean tropes.

Tropes that are apparent in every Korean MMO. Don't imply I hate a country because they can't develop good games.

The critical acclaim for Aion is not in its favour.

And Grinding was a common complaint again. Another trope synonymous with Korean games.

I didn't find it any more grind-y than any other mmo. You grind a lot in FFXI and WoW too. And I don't put so much stock in critical acclaim as I do personal experience and preference.

I'm gonna ask you a question:
How long does it take to level up a job class in these games? More than a month? More than two months?
More than six?

Well these days like 2 days <.< But pre-abyssea a long *** time indeed. There's no way you can say FFXI isn't a grind. Want an empy? Park your *** in abyssea and get pops for hours.

Pretty much every MMO is grindy.

Edit: For example, my first (and only 75) was blm. It took me years to eventually get it up there. For me the point of MMOs isn't "ZOMG LEVELZ&GEAR!" so much as it is exploring a new world. And Aion had one hell of a world imo.

Implying the grinding in XI is anywhere near the amount of grind you need in any Korean MMO.

It pretty much does <.< Used to have to kill crabs for goddamn hours for 1 level. Before syncs and exp bands and abyssea it was a huge grind.

Took me 6 months to level RDM to 75.
Granted, it was my first 75 and before level sync, but, even if you partied all day with the proper people (read: not retards), it would take you a month to level a job from scratch to 75.

I hope you realize they made that switch three years after Guild Wars was released, so they would most certainly have a say in how it was developed.

This isn't so much, "Korea makes bad games," as it is, "The only games I want to acknowledge as coming from Korea are, in my opinion, bad games," which doesn't speak much about Korea but speaks loads about you.
