Lineage II? City of Heroes? Guild Wars? They're all made by the same South Korean company and have been reviewed pretty favorably. Ragnarok Online is still an extremely popular MMO that's spawned multiple games and even an anime. Maple Story currently has more active players than FFXI and is pretty fun if you're in to side-scrollers.

I think he means the New Wave of Korean MMOs. Capitalized to be very particular.

Before MMOs were popular all of the names ring a bell without even knowing where they're from. Every game you mentioned besides possibly City of Heroes is old-era.
Lineage II was released a year after FFXI. City of Heroes was released in 2004. Guild Wars was released in 2005. They're not exactly "old-era" like the original Lineage, Ultima Online, and EverQuest.

Doesn't anyone else see that these people keep pushing out the same games with the flashiest new graphics and a trailer that focuses on the even flashier gameplay for a few western subscriptions? I don't even know how that makes money but apparently it's really easy to develop games like that nowadays or something.
No. No one else sees it, because it isn't really true. You honestly sound like you're talking out of your ***.

Lineage II
Isn't that the HD FFXI clone, with better cinematics/character models?
None of those models look like FFXI (aside from the humans, which look the same in every game), and the gameplay is similar to every MMO that was released back then. Hell, Lineage II is more similar to WoW than FFXI.

Thank you for speaking for everyone.

I'm glad I don't know a single person who plays any of these games.

If you want to play a game that is similiar to oldschool FFXI, then you should look into Everquest. They actually released two new servers not that long ago that try to recreate the game the way it was back in 1999. Every 90 days after the server population kills all the raid bosses, a vote is made in the game to release the following expansion.

There's 16 expansion packs in Everquest, and so far they just barely released the first expansion on said servers.

Now if you want to play an MMO that is totally different to everything you see on the market atm then try out EVE online. It's a space Sandbox MMO. Try that out and see how you like it. There's a 14 day free trial on their website. You might like the change of pace on that game.

haven't played tri yet, but i play MHFU all the time. Also my friends are trying to get me to play the jp port of the newest one but i refuse lol. If they want to make positive changes to FFXI they should make it more like monster hunter :P

Yeah Korea releases awful MMO's with flashy ideas constantly. There are no good Korean MMOs.

Enjoy your micro-transactions and unbalanced gameplay.

Lineage II was terrible
City of Heroes was terrible (Also developed by Cryptic a US company)
ArenaNet made Guild wars, it was only published by NCsoft.

ArenaNet is a US company.

Ragnarok Online is popular with Korean players

Maple story is popular with Korean players.

I see it. Korean MMO's always go one way and that's the toilet.

Terrible graphical style and terrible gameplay with horrible network lag always hidden in trailers.

You are contradicting yourself. If they were awful games they would not be popular. Guild wars has a large player base outside Korea.

However, I think Diablo 3 might be my "replacement" game in the long run. It better be amazing, because I'm excited for it! XD

Guild Wars is a COORPG it's been coined as such for a long time.

All the areas outside of towns are instanced in GW1 so it doesn't have that massive feeling (Doesn't stop it from being in my top 3 games I've ever played and the fact that I've played it extensively for 4 years)

Guild Wars 2 will be an MMO, it's non instanced.

Pretty much, and the servers are based in Korea.

Fast paced games don't work well when the servers are located away from the US.

Why do you think games like WoW have US and EU servers? If a game is fast paced it gets *** over with one central server.

Guild Wars did it right and allowed you to change from EU to US on the fly, or even sit in an international server.

FFXI isn't fast paced lol.

Auto attack and long cast spells make it so it isn't. FFXI has always been able to control lag in a better way anyway.

And yeah

Okay so I'll be honest, I didn't know what the hell COORPG meant. So I looked it up. First thing I found was a link to a review about GW written by Flionheart... xD Anyway, I understand what you mean now. :p

It can be yar, but the battle system is based around slow paced fighting which makes cross continental servers possible. You can see lag when you're running through somewhere like WG and someone sprints ahead of you suddenly lol.

Lol'd that's a pretty old review, but yeah I'll see if I can ring some up.

Well I can't find any, but it can either mean Co-op Online RPG or Competitive Online RPG

They originally coined it a few years back in PAX

There we go, first line ^^
