Quote: I could care less if he attacks the "sacred ff4". Maybe they don't care enough to even get the saying correct, making it more profound than 'I could not care less.'
I could care less. Not much, but obviously I care some. I didn't want to be a liar.
Thanks though :D Personally I strongly feel the GBA version is the best remake, but from what I've seen the PSP version is an extremely close contender.
Here's why: Take the original SNES hard version as a baseline. Then ask yourself, "What did each remake bring to the table?" PS1: Straight port, better translated script, CD load times GBA: Slightly enhanced graphics, better translated script, lengthy new endgame dungeons and gear, the ability to choose your endgame party. DS: "enhanced" 3D graphics, voice acting, new boss strategies, minigames, augment system, 2 bonus bosses. No new dungeons and little to no new endgame gear. PSP: Complete revamped 2D graphics, better translated script, The After Years + interlude. (Can someone confirm or deny if the dungeons/gear/party choices from the GBA version or the augmenting/bonus bosses from the PSP version are in this version?) Now here's my take on the DS version since everyone's so riled up about it. The 3D graphics: They could have been MUCH better. Everyone looked like they had nubs for arms and legs. Compare it with Dragon Quest XI. Even though the the graphics were a little jagged, the game was gorgeous. The bonus content (Warning TvTropes links ahead): I didn't care for the augment system at all. I hoarded all my augments so I could use them for my endgame party only to find out that you can miss most of them if you didn't use them on specific people at specific times making them Lost Forever. This was one giant case of Guide Dang It especially since you only get three playthroughs. Both the GBA and PSP versions' bonus content has so much more substance. The GBA dungeon required multiple trips through it to see everything, while the PSP has an entirely new game tacked on to the end. Cutscenes/voice acting: The cutscenes were definately a welcome addition despite the character models looking bad. I feel the same as most of the posters above about the quality of the voice acting. While it was fairly good in most places, there were plenty of spots where I thought SE could have done a better job of hiring. No, I cannot do a better job, but after spending the past two decades of experiencing anime dubbing improve drastically over time, I thought it could have been better. Soundtrack: I have mixed reviews about the newly redone soundtrack. Some tracks transitioned very well while others did not. "Red Wings" for example is an example of a not. There is a specific part of the track (the first few notes you hear when you enter the Lunar Subterrain) which is supposed to sound like an explosion of energy, but somehow the notes seem to fall very flat. A perfect example of a good transition is "Battle 2" which was very nicely redone. Modified boss strategy: This is a hit or miss. First off I did not notice any change in boss tactics until you fight Golbez. Originally the fight was supposed to be scrambling to get the party back up then surviving. Now its a Barrier Change Boss. Nothing wrong with that, and I liked the surprise. However, Rubicante went from being a SNK Boss to a pushover boss. Meanwhile the exact opposite happened to the CPU boss in the Giant of Babil. Overall I liked the change in boss strategies though. While I'm at it let me trash The After Years. I honestly hope they polished the snot out of the PSP version because the Wii version was horrible. While I wasn't expecting Shakespeare, I didn't expect the writing to be that bad. The graphics looked like a mix mash of reusing the original graphics with new graphics. As a result it just looked really sloppy. For example, in combat you have a background that looked scaled to fit larger screens, while the characters and monsters looked tiny in comparison. The font looked really off too. Finally, there was absolutely no party balance. As a result every random encounter felt like I was fighting a Boss in Mook Clothing. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and the NOSTALGIA that I got from the linked pages :D Leviathan.Draylo said: Sylph.Ignignot said: Why oh fking why do dumb little kids get to use the internet. Nothing makes me happier than to verbally assault morons. The tears of the morbidly obese taste like sweet sweet gravy.
Draylo is right, we should quit playing games because they're fun, but instead we should play them just because they have better graphics. Using his logic, we should all quit FFXI and move on to FFXIV because clearly that has better graphics. So what if a game sucks, as long as it's pretty!
On a serious note, I do like nice graphics, but I think the DS version of FFIV looks horrible. To me, it looks like a really bad kid's cartoon rather than a video game. While some people may disagree, I think a game with decent 2D graphics looks better than a game with extremely cheesy 3D graphics. If SE wants to remake a 2D game into 3D, then make it look like the newer FF's (or something along those lines) or just don't do it at all. Omg does draylo ever stfu.... All he ever does is *** *** moan *** moan. I understand "blah blah blah stating my opinion blah blah blah" But GG all he does it just try to drill it into our heads. Then to top it off he starting insulting... lol...
Wait a *** minute, did he honestly just say, "I played the game in its original state. PUT DOWN THE NOSTALGIA GLASSES OLD MAN"? Definition of oxymoron right hyuh.
On the subject of art, you can 'blame' FF4's goofy SD cartoon style on Akihiko Yoshida.
...who also drew these. ![]() ![]() Not gonna lie, I hate the style he used for FFT, especially after he just finished work on Tactics Ogre, an equally serious game. At least it kinda makes sense when it comes to FF3/FF4. Personally I didn't mind the SD style of the characters. My problem was with the poor way it transitioned into the in game character models.
necrobump from a couple weeks ago but i just came across this gem for the first time.
