Why oh fking why do dumb little kids get to use the internet. This cockknocker is STILL going on about this fking DS graphics nonsense? And seriously, if you didn't sound like a douche just from your HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE and invalid arguments, the over-excessive use of that craptastic phrase "Nostalgia Glasses" would put you up there in the douche olympics with the Jersey Shore looking frat boys with pink shirts with 2 popped collars.
We salute you king douche nozzle of the FF4 thread, now get your underage and overweight *** to bed before i throw out all of your doughnuts that you filled with bacon and lard.

Sorry I went to bed instead of being trolled. This was my entire reason for getting involved in this thread. I could care less if he attacks the "sacred ff4". I was upset because of his bastardization of the art of debate. Someone says something? AD-HOMINEM. AD-HOMINEM. AD-HOMINEM. AD-HOMINEM. AD-NAUSIEM.
I want to point out I have no qualms with Draylo (even after being called a scrub etc for just calmly stating my opinion). I normally think he's a swell chap, especially with all the threads that make me want to punch Neonracer in the unit.
I just don't understand how you can be the first to be mayad in this thread and THEN have the audacity to say "you guys are all buttsore because nostalgia". Then when people defend themselves and their opinions you just say "NOSTALGIA (insult here)" for 7 pages.
Sorry just trying to resolve any confusion and defend myself here. Nothing against anyone and you can like how DS version looks if you want. Some people can play the crystal chronicles without bleeding from the eyes too.

The DS is capable of more than the III and IV remakes make it seem, granted I wasn't aware of this until I started playing Dark Dawn (which I am still playing). Games like the new Pokemon and 64 remakes have never looked this good, granted, Golden Sun is just good at hiding it; the character models in battle look smoothed and great compared to FF remakes, but you can see where it falls short in larger enemy or building models.
Either way, I don't see why a half-assed remake was ever necessary for these FFs. How come the art style had to stay similar when it could've changed just as easily, something like the original Golden Suns' non-battle (ie 2D) sequences or the 4 Heroes of Light? Even the original PS1/GBA remakes of 1 and 2 didn't take a hint from the far better looking SNES VI. Though I can understand a rehash for 1.99 at the app store, especially when it regards 'nostalgia glasses' (would you want to see V look like VI?), eventually for these remakes they need to update the art style. Why not go full-on if you're going to remake a game?
This brings up the '14 NPCs in a kingdom' mentioned earlier. Why is are the scripts and atmosphere still just as shitty? Why did they even bother adding character backgrounds for the III remake (for those that didn't emulate the original III: you started as 4 onion knights and fell down a hole. In the remake, your main character has a sloppy back story that amounts to reading what was in the game manual and then meets up with the other characters).

Yeah the original with its AMAZING 2D graphics was so much better!!! Nostalgia glasses, once again.
What's hilarious is how Draylo and the rest of you guys put off opinions and preferences as fact.
The 2d version is superior.
The 3d version is superior.
Nuh uh.
Yeah huh.
x7 pages.
*** clown shoes. I prefer the original 2d version on SNES. Some players prefer the 3d version, more than likely they started FF with 7+, which was all 3d polygons. As to which is "superior", it would be debatable if anyone used examples other than just saying which ones they liked. Opinions =/= Fact.
New and shiny =/= better.
Seen any good remakes of any movies lately?

FFIV was bad anyway.
But I guess I'll pick it up seeing as it comes with the after years.

In line with Rayik's post, I love how Draylo managed to start a fire out of this topic, and it's been fueled for seven pages.
Wonder if once we get to nine pages, a certain someone will get in here with
Quote: NINE PAGES!!!!!!!!!!
Really though, everyone has their own preferred way of playing FFIV. Many people prefer 2D, since that's what they grew up playing, and it's what they'll stick by, you really can't tell them it's the "wrong" way of playing the game.

I probably prefer 2D souped up sprites than the awkward 3D that the DS was trying to pull off.
But in all honesty in terms of an FF game graphics are an afterthought.

Old man stories:
I was all about FF1 on NES when it came out. I rented it solely on whim(later bought it), I had no prior knowledge about it. Nintendo Power didn't even do anything to cover it at the time, until the strategy guide came out(which I still have in good condition). There was no internet buzz(no internet at all), no hype, just a black box with red letters, and a sword and axe crossing.
When FFIV came out as II in the US, I had no knowledge whatsoever that there were two more games in-between. I thought Square literally made the jump to from 1 to IV, and I was floored at the quality comparing the two. I was absolutely hooked from day one.
That's why the 3d version doesn't interest me(besides it looking like crap). I'm not some kid who started off with FFVII or later, looking backwards through remakes and emulators, I was there when IV was cutting edge technology. Remakes using different engines aside from just updating 2d, for players like me, are like someone trying to remake your memory of your first kiss(those of you who have even had one), but this time modernizing the clothes you wore wore, changing the girls hair color and appearance, changing where it happened, etc. It will never be better than you remember it.

The game is nearly 20 years old, what else would it be? It's probably older than you.

And you're making a comparison against a viewpoint you can't relate to, so that's even sillier.

False, you seem to assume my age. Don't even try old man, I've played these games in their original state. I don't use that to judge it vs another though and be biased solely because its "herp derp, mah 1st rpgz"

Final Fantasy IV setting the standards. Not to mention the Lunar Whale theme. I use it in place of FFXI's airship theme, makes airship rides more fun.

So nice to give yourself away. You call me an old man, and claim to have played the games "in their original state." My daughter can play my Dreamcast right now and say it looks crappy compared to our PC. Where were you when FFII/IV came out? Pre-school? Or are you just as "old" as I am?
Besides, FF wasn't my first RPG. It was one of the first really good ones I played, but there were several before it. Herp derp.
EDIT: As for assuming your age, I'm just going by the impression you're giving off, which is that of a know-it-all snot nosed teenager. Just going by what you're showing.

Why does it matter what age I am? I take a fair view to any game I try. For your information old man, the first time I ever played FF4 was the SNES. I was young, just like you were young. Herp derp.

I think age matters when we're comparing different versions of a 20 year old game. But, that just my opinion. Feel free to disagree. I've read forums where kids blasted Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which is hailed as one of(if not the) best Castlevania's in the entire series, because the "graphics look all blocky and stuff"
I still find it funny you calling me old, and claim playing FFIV on SNES like it was new. Was this before or after you already player 7+? That's the point I'm trying to make. Everyone's got their own idea of what makes a FF game "Final Fantasy" to them, and most of the time it's based off their first impression. It's why there's a divide between 1-6 fans and 7-13 fans most of the time.
My wife and I, both huge FF fans, are on both sides of the fence; I'm a 1-6 guy, she's a 7-13 girl.

I started with prompt based "peasant questesque" games and corridor crawlers. I enjoyed the DS-remake of Chrono Trigger (even though it was clearly just a money grab). There's nothing nostalgia related about my opinion on this and I'm sorry you're getting so upset about it. If you re-released Sonic the hedgehog 1 in 2011 and made it "3D" but sonic looked like crash bandicoot people would be upset. Most people are frustrated/irritated by shitty addtl content. Constant reminders during the game of how bad they did ruin the fun. Fun = the only reason people play GAMES.
New =/= superior. Adding a couple 10 second CS's and a game where you count to 10 in your head before hitting "A" does not justify "improving upon". It sounds like if a used car dealer told you "this one is totally better, we added a cup holder and a spare tire for 2k" you'd be falling over yourself to sign the check. Don't be so obtuse :/

Don't try Rayik. I did this dance with him last night. Started out saying I liked both the SNES version and the DS version but I like SNES more. I gave my opinion and reason why and even said that I respect his decision. Even admitted to "nostalgia glasses". He's a sperm burping gutter ***.
PS: If you read back, he's 12 years old and 29 (me) is ancient. Don't curse cause he'll "tell his daddy."

Not even really an argument, just a disagreement. He might as well be telling people that Wings is better than The Beatles, ya know, cuz Wings is newer and is better technology and stuff.
All I'm saying is an opinion is not a fact. Some people prefer the DS version, which is fine, but telling someone their preference is inherently wrong is about as *** as answering opinions with "Nostalgia Glasses herp derp"
Draylo: 3d is superior!
Everyone Else: I prefer 2d
Draylo: You're wrong! herp derp.
Everyone Else: Um....
Draylo: Nostalgia Glasses
Again, this is a 19 year old game, "Nostalgia Glasses" are assumed from the get-go. Anyone who thinks it's some "new" game is misled.
