Except its not just nostalgia.... if you're going to call it upgraded graphics then it better not be a mustard child of cell shading and wild arms 1. I thought starfox was going to barrel roll across the screen. They should have called the DS version FF4: virtual boy. The augment system also WAS useless. If you're going to add ***to the game don't half *** it. I prefer the original, also because, I am a completionist. The mini game were *** boring and hardly imaginative. The flaws with the "improvement" of the game caused me to enjoy it less so I call that a loss.

Is there an emulator for the PC that can run this?

I read somewhere that it wasn't just FFIV and the After years, but there was an unreleased interlude between the two games that had a good number of game play hours, and the After Years is everything with the individual side quests. I got the Wii version but I never bothered with it much when I realized I had to purchase a bunch of extra content to make it actually enjoyable.
I'm looking to playing this eventually, I've enjoyed all versions (including the DS) version since I was 10.

And when I hear things like this I hear "2D is inherently inferior." Where is that written exactly? It pisses me off when I think that the general consensus is that 3D is the natural successor of 2D, not just in games but in animation. Neither is inherently anything; they're both unique mediums that can be used to create art. One isn't somehow superior just because of "zomg moar dimensions".

2D also isn't any older than 3D, which throws this whole nostalgia argument out the window.

BattleZone is older than I am, and probably 10 years older than most of you. Geometry processing definitely made sprite based games more appealing to make, but that didn't stop people from trying anyway. And that's what it boils down to. Where 2D games used to be easier, and more importantly cheaper to produce, now the opposite is true. It's a lot easier and cheaper to model a character once and manipulate it however you want than it is to actually get an animation crew to sit there and draw all possible scenarios, frame by frame. Take Braid, for instance. The artwork in this game alone took a year to produce, and it shows. The game is gorgeous. Thinking of it getting sullied up by polygons makes me nauseous.

Does one come out better than the other? I'd be hard pressed to compare anything Studio Ghibli has released in the last 10 years with the same from Disney/Pixar. In the end, it's just a matter of opinion, but I'd take hand drawn any day.

For the record, the FFIV:Complete Collection is 2D but it has been entirely redone. Whether it's any better or worse than the sub-PS1 generation 3D graphics the DS version offers is up to you, but..

Polished 2D graphics are fine, but that 8bit stuff back in the day...I'd rather take 3D over it.

Hell I play Disgaea - nothing but pretty meh 2D sprites. At least in 4 they're very HQ and polished.

Saying the "original" is better is fine, but saying it's better simply because it's unpolished 2D graphics is a really awkward excuse. If you have personal nostalgic feelings when playing that way, fine by me.

Poor examples, they were all tailored to your tastes. DS is superior for cutscenes, voice overs, introducing current gen to an old game, and good graphics.

I just really find the 3D graphics being touted by the opposition to be offensive to the eye. They're jerky, I can see and count the individual polygons, the textures are smudged and sloppy on some things. Aliasing is a major issue as well.

I actually like when they remake old 2D games and simply polish them up, like they did with this one.

Hm, I never actually got around to getting very far in IV. Maybe I'll actually just get this. I just don't wanna drop $40 on it knowing I'll play it once and not touch it for like a year ._.

How is Final Fantasy IV on the DS current gen, and how are the graphics good? They look like N64. Compare it to Ocarina of Time coming for the 3DS (current gen). They improved an N64 game's graphics and it really looks beautiful. FFIV on the DS is something a college student in graphics design could put together in 3DSMax on a weekend. Compared to the beautiful artwork that Final Fantasy games of the bygone era had always had, this psuedo-3D art style is just really appalling.

Let's see some samples of your great work then. She had emotion in that scene as did the rest of them.

P.S. The 3d polygons were gritty and unappealing to me on DS, And 2D castlevania Symphony of the Night kicks the absolute shyte out of ANY castlevania game ever, Including xbox 360 ps2, or any other 2/3D!!!!

I didn't mind the voices all that much, it's the choppy kid like graphics that hurt.

Take into consideration though I never played a DS, so idk if that's the best they could do with the platform.
