That's my best jp onry so far in 14. My ash pattens remained broken ; ;. Yes, I offered repair mats & put some up in zar next to pattens for cheap.

I've been after a certain jp lalafell for months now :P. It's really hit or miss when it comes to this. I can't read or write jp at all, but I try since I play in windowed mode I have english>japanese & japanese<english google translate up. From my experience it's been about 50/50. Some jp players make it a point not to deal with non jp & others couldn't care less.

In FFXI on shiva, there's a mule, been around about as long as i have. (US Release). bazaar comment says

always pisses me off.

I recently purchased a jp Nintendo 3DS off of ebay, low and behold there's no way to convert the text of the system to english. It'll play the old US DS/DSi games fine but the new 3DS games have to be jp only, thanks to region locking. The system's a blast, managed to figure out how to set the date and time without too much trouble. Picked up Super Street Fighter IV 3DS to see what it looked like, pictures of it in ads and magazine reviews don't do it justice. Has to be seen to be believed.

FFXI NA version doesn't have JP keyboard support either way, right? So even if we know how to speak Japanese, it's not like we can type it, right? If there is a legal way, someone please enlighten me. o.o

There is a form of Japanese to speak and have it understood. Romanji.....

They don't always understand that.

They understand that, they are taught English, just they would prefer the more formal dialect. But they do understand it.

I`d be willing to bet that most people use the Auto-translate function out of convenience more than anything. Typing 2-3 letters then hitting tab tends to be faster than typing out a whole sentence.

What does being fat even have to do with auto-translate? And I would venture a guess that the JP use text fill just as much as NAs do out of sheer not wanting to take 5 minutes to type something.

Wrong. If the JP client is anything like 11's JP client, to use auto translate, they actually have to type out the entire word before they can auto it.

Oh, good to know that they don't have a choice about it. Also good to know why they don't like using auto-translate. For english speaking players auto translate is convenient. For JP, they have to go out of their way to use it.

- The JP auto-translate system requires JP users to spell out the entire phrase, with perfect punctuation, spacing, and spelling, before it can be translated. It can't be used as a shortcut key and is thus an enormous pain in the *** to use.

- The translation tokens are mostly non-sensical in Japanese and do not string together the way most US users assume. The grammar is backwards, homonyms are mismatched and so it's common for US users' phrases to end up as "[Fifth month] [hornet] [what is it?] [fishing skill] [full speed ahead]? [Please stick it in.]"

- Saying Japanese should understand English because they learn it in school, is like saying everyone in the US should happily remember and willingly engage in trigonometry and pre-calculus problems. In order to group. In a game. Because you learned it in school.
