Looks they they turned a cult classic renowned for it's incredible sinister atmosphere, tense exploration and psychological horror into a childish gimmick where you should worry more about your outfit than the mutants trying to rip your soul out.

They made a Silent Hill MMO type thing. It's... it's just an affront to everything the series has stood for. It's a complete abomination, even compared to the shitty quality of every SH released after Silent Hill 4.

They simply gave you something to change your character model up a bit. God forbid that some people may have gotten tired of staring at the exact same model for hours on end and want a little bit of customization. Though that model does look silly and unfitting for the game. It's just another way for people to immerse themselves in the game by making their character how they envision them (or at least similar).
Also, games evolve. Deal with it; and play it, or don't.
I myself couldn't care less as I have no interest in the series.

Perhaps you've not had the experience or misfortune of having a beloved franchise touched by hands of those that had virtually no inkling or iota of understanding as to what made the original(s) memorable, enjoyable, or successful to begin with. It can be quite heart breaking to have a game turned into something it simply isn't and never was to begin with. Sure, you could see this as a simple modernization or appeal to a wider target demograph of players, but at the cost of alienating the original fan base.
Our outcry is not necessarily one to be taken seriously, but it does have merit in it's own regards. And sadly the best we can do is simply not play it; and occasionally vent.

There's a difference between a game evolving and creating a complete contradiction to everything that makes the game the success it is today. They simply gave you something to change your character model up a bit? The character model is the last thing any Silent Hill fan cares about. Fashion and looking pretty have no place AT ALL in Silent Hill and completely screw up the raw and gritty style of the whole series!
BF3 is starting to tilt towards that way.. BF3 might be the last one I buy and I've always been a HUGE fan of the series.
Still I kinda side with Ruler on this one. But my opinion on it might not hold as much weight, as I'm also like him in the respect that I have no interest in the series whatsoever.

It's semantics and perception really. Some will say evolution, I say perversion (and not the sexual kinky kind).
Almost every series ends up that way.
