Oh you just meant the potatoes. My mom likes to use the instant stuff but I find there's better flavor in boiling and mashing them yourself. <_<

Blech, instant potatoes.

We eat mashed potatoes probably 3 nights a week at least on average.. I don't know the last time we've ate instant potatoes.. Really the only time we don't eat mashed potatoes that weren't cooked from scratch by me is when it's in a TV dinner or something.

my original character was a mage, but i decided to start a new character and i didn't want to deal with elemental weaknesses and being shitty until halfway through the story again so i went with longsword.

The best part is being able to leave the skin on if you want to, I think. They have those instant kind where they left what they call "skin" in, but it's not the same thing. :/

It's like one of the easiest things to make too.. Just prepare the potatoes and set them in water before you start everything else, put them on to boil about 30 minutes before everything else is ready, drain and add your stuff then just mash.. Really no harder than instant IMO.

you could throw in some spices when you mash em to help that. like garlic powder onlion powder pepper salt paprika etc
That's the idea.

I can't wait to finally get that job that enables me to move out. I like cooking good food even if it's just for myself. ~.~ Having to share cooking rights with someone just makes me upset <_<

Well you could try adding a teaspoon or so of white vinegar to a cup of milk.. then add that to the potatoes.. Whisk it with a fork and let it sit for 10 mins before adding.

That's my substitute for buttermilk, since it's all just going to be whipped up anyways, you're mostly going for flavor, as an accent flavor (not the dominant flavor) it should be sour cream like.

If you have cream you could substitute the cream for milk to get closer.. The vinegar will thicken up the milk, but it won't be as thick as real sour cream.
