DoTA2 coming out next year!

Judging by the sales it is far superior to FFXI I agree. But I do think the FFXI/WOW players have different mentalities, the players that actually stick to the game.

Pretty much this, XI players are so closed to any other game, more than any other community :/

The way I see it, SE's periodical updates have slowly made XI easier, to the point where you CAN pick it up and have fun at first, rather than the grind it once was during initial release.

At the current trend, we can expect the next update to make the game almost as easy as endgame WoW.

Stereotypes. XI players think wow players are 12 year olds, wow players think XI players are weaboos who enjoy grinding and that's it.

i think it's a matter of which one your friends play

and which one you were exposed to first

personal taste/preference do come into play

but most of my wow playing friends would be about equally happy playing xi

and vice versa

neither game is honestly amazingly fun

the game is the macguffin

either way, it's an excuse to bring friends together

and give them something to do while they hang out

if someone really and truly cares about the pixels

that's a mentality i find hard to understand

also~ i've played both WOW and FFXI for very long time~ but it always seems that i quite WoW till the next endgame patch or expansion, for me WoW lost its Glory after they raise the cap to 70 and also after they made the battlegrounds..... nothing beat World PVP i still remember the night they implement the PVP ranking reward we had a fricking battle @ TM/south-Shore for like days...

i've played both of them, my accounts still running in both worlds yet IMHO i always knew i was a FF guy wow was just a place to chill and enjoy a good PVP action " till they screw it up"

I tried LoL and couldn't enjoy it. :S

Maybe with other people it might've been more fun?

You know, in a whimsical way, I enjoyed the lighthearted-ness and carefree antics of playing WoW. It was fun leveling my taruen warrior and exploring random locations and leveling my blacksmithing along the way.
However, in the end I couldn't help but feel bored and trapped in an environment that left me feeling like I was playing a single player game with bots that occasionally had fits of nerd rage.
There was no real sense of social interaction or teamwork whatsoever. It may be too early to say that as I only made it to level 63, however, I think the general community of WoW speaks for itself and explains why I stay with FFXI.

I agree. Honestly had I played WoW first I probably would have given up on FFXI after a few days. FFXI was my first MMO and I bought it for the hell of it. I had nothing to pick apart about it because I didn't know any better lol ;)


Going from XI to WoW was strange, things were so stupidly easy in comparison it just felt weird and I was bored at first, but then some other XI friends started playing and I started exploring more and that hooked me in. I never had any of those exciting moments soloing a hard mob though and the world just didn't charm me much. There were some cool areas but after the 3rd or 4th time going there it was just another zone unlike some of XI's zones, The Sanctuary of Zi'tah in particular.

I never much cared for PvP on there but only cause I sucked at it xD

Collecting mounts and mini pets was awesome though and being an Engineer gave me acess to so many fun items :D I might start up again when Cata hits but I've been having too much fun in XI lately to be that excited for it.

Isn't league of legends similar to that league of heroes/villains game?

It looks remarkably similar in fashion and composure to WoW.

I play WoW sometime. I really enjoy because its a different game than FFXI. I like to play both, but the main FFXI i actually focus on more. Maybe i could roll to another server with you guys. Sounds fun w a few friends.

I think I'd have to constantly play only with RL buddies to have any sense of satisfaction playing WoW aside from the fun solo stuff like exploring and crafting and random achievements.

But in its own way it is fun and I'd love to play it every now and then, but alas I already pay SE enough money, I unfortunately don't have enough time or money to give to Blizzard as well.
