SQUARE-ENIX said: Dear members,
We are shifting to new internal systems and services that require all of our customers to properly identify their current residence in order to access our new products and services.
One consequence of this is that members residing outside of the supported territory (United States and Canada) will not be able to access their existing North America SQUARE ENIX MEMBERS accounts, including MEMBERS Points, after August 31, 2010, 2 a.m. PDT. New accounts may be available in your proper territory. We apologize for any inconvenience.

However, if you fail to update this information now, you may be prevented from accessing future services.
How many people do you think this is going to screw over?

Interesting..
So basically, if you lived in USA, and possibly moved outside of USA due to whatever reason, (Military etc.) you'll not be able to log in??
Hmm, what about moving states..

I was thinking more of people from Australia or Europe who imported from the US, which is a lot of people. However, it doesn't actually say you won't be able to log-in to FFXI (or FFXIV), it just says Members Site and Members Points... I don't even know what those are.

This could very well lock up 80% of the RMT accounts. Seeing most are bought, stolen or whatnot. We all know people still buy gil, but if accounts with RMT$$ attached to it get locked out, imagine how the economy will spiral in the weeks to come, when those gilbuyers can't get their gil. This'll be interesting.

Most FFXI accounts are now linked to a SE account, which cannot be unlinked. So yeah it will affect FFXI. Also, it looks like they're forcing an SE account on anyone that doesn't have it already

To me it seems like it's the only way to access your members area and not to do with the actual game.

Once you register for your SE account, you have to log into FFXI with your SE id info rather than your PoL ID, so yeah it's going to affext FFXI and FFIV, as well as everything else related ;x

That depends if they force you to get an SE account with the new system, which they most likely do. Anyone that has a security token is linked to an SE account though

SE is being really silly when it comes to this stuff. I don't think any other MMO uses so much *** like this.

Its a initial pain in the ***, but after you create that account which most of us have already had to do with token, you will forget about it... honestly though i wonder if they will eventually scrap connection with playonline, and have log in for ffxi independent of that, like the stand alone ffxiv will be

Yeah I agree, I can't log in either because my playonline ID is linked to my SquareEnix members ID. It feels like such a waste of time. They are apparently trying to localize all the members now so they can make more money and prevent imports.

So what happens if you haven't logged onto your SE account since you made it and don't plan to anytime soon?

This crap applies to the Square Enix Members site only, as far as I can see with my OMG basic reading skills.

Ahem... This regards SQUARE ENIX MEMBERS and SQUARE ENIX ACCOUNTS.
It seems like the SQUARE ENIX ACCOUNTS service is under maintenance and that's the reason why we're getting POL-5426 at the login.
If after the maintenance I am unable to claim my account I'll just call my credit card company and tell them I lost my card. I'll then never, ever look at their (Square Enix) website again. :P

The problem is this:
On September 22, along with the official launch of FINAL FANTASY® XIV's service, the Square Enix Account Management System will be significantly updated, adding a variety of payment features and more.
Due to these upgrades, current Square Enix Account users will need to register their country of residence the first time they log in to the Square Enix Account Management System after August 31, 2010 2:00am PDT.
They're specifically mentioning the square enix accounts, the ones which FFXI accounts are linked to, and FFXIV accounts will also be linked to.
Just because they don't specifically mention EVERY product and service affected, doesn't mean that they won't.
If you can't log into your Square enix account, it's impossible to get into PoL or FFXI

HAHA minimizing on the exisiting issues, gil sellers won't be able to sell accounts anymore, nor will it be possible to buy pre lvld accounts...UNLESS, they are done in the same area...
hmmm?
poses some thoughts...

My guess is that you wont be able to manage (register games, payment methods etc) your US SE members account from outside US.
It should still be possible to do these operations with an US based proxy.
I don't think the game login will be limited to US only because that would cause too many problems with traveling US residents.
