OK so I downloaded "This Works" and I've been trying to extract the files into Program Files --> Playonline --> Sq. Enix --> Final Fantasy XI but I'm getting errors saying stuff like "Access is denied". Can anyone help? D:

Anyone have any thoughts at all? :/
Your security is locking it down. You need to either run winzip or winrar as an administrator. Or disable UAC.

Sorry, I'm trying to explore right now, lol.

tyty i'll try that now ^^

You're a damn lifesaver, K-mart.

By the way, you need to hook me up with a pearl again. :P

Is there a way to utilize this to speed up the download process?

Just found this topic and I'm already quite a bit into the update, @590 files remaining with 4 hour estimate time remaining.

Just stop your download, download the this_works set, and then restart the download.

Funnily enough, PoL at least made it so you can resume where you left off.

Just wanted to say thank you to Krizz.

There's no way I'd be in FFXI tonight without your help and links.

Lol, I appreciate it. Keep in mind this is thanks to the folks over at BG who took the time to upload it after their downloads finished.

You can move your Final Fantasy file to your desktop, this will allow you to save with getting "Access Denied" error message. Then just put the Final Fantasy file back in the correct place.

I tried to extract the THIS WORKS patch to FFXI's root folder, and it said I had 4016 "Action not authorized" errors, or something like that. Anyone know what the deal is there, and how to fix it?

Copying 46,686 items (9.47 GB) from PlayOnline to Desktop. About 43 minutes and 17 seconds remaining.

O_o... Might as well just do the regular download, lol

Well this is a bit scary... Methinks my POL is borked after the procedure, though I'm unsure how it happened.

I downloaded and copied over the necessary files in the manner which was described earlier in the thread. Before attempting to continue the update, I also replaced the patch.TXT ahead of time, since I was having trouble downloading it naturally through POL. The installation proved successful at first glance, and after a scant 14 files were found and downloaded (including FTABLE.DAT,) the update was complete. However...

Upon attempting to launch FFXI or POL's File Check, an odd window pops up stating that "Windows is configuring FINAL FANTASY XI", and that it's "Gathering required information." After a good 25 minutes of senseless scanning, the window alerts me that "The feature that you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." It then goes on to request "an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'FINAL FANTASY XI.msi'". Either of the two provided choices lead nowhere, and I cannot advance past this annoying window.

Sorry about the mini wall of text, but this is truely stumping me. My OS is XP, so I doubt it's a security authorization issue. I've yet to read anyone else experiencing this... Any ideas?

Well that is the non-technical way to add that file to "Final Fantasy" without recieving an error message.
I believe you can try running as administrator as stated in an earlier post.

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the solution. Running it regardless of form eventually leads to that odd window again. The installation methods never mentioned anything like this, so I'm at a loss as to what to do next. =/

I'm not sure what happened in your case, TBH. Make sure all the files were copied into the correct location and run the file check again.

Such a simple fix, yet it worked! After re-extracting the necessary files to my root FFXI folder, and correcting a fault of stupidity of my own (ROM 0/0's name was incorrect,) everything loads up smoothly.

What a relief... Thanks, gentlemen.

Edit : NVM

Edit 2 : Just got passed the file check and it started to download files again at a whopping 9 hours remaining until completion. I used the "This Works" file. (Help me out!)?

Make sure you put the files in the right spot. You have to manually browse to it. Does it say 2004 files remaining or something like that?

I'm heading to bed now, but I will come back and answer questions in the morning.

More like 9000.

This sucks. My EGLS Trial starts tomorrow, too...

Yeah, pretty sure you copied your files wrong. Highly recommend you extract them again to the FFXI directory.

Off to bed for real this time. Just wanted to finish up some post edits.

after about 1 hour in of the download... with like 4 more estimated hours to go through POL...

I downloaded this and extracted it to the FFXI directly in less than 5 minutes and now I am playing. That was a lifesaver on time .

Thanks for posting that link krizz

Is anyone still having problems with the manual update?

How about POL? Is it still lagging out even after all these hours?

http://rapidshare.com/files/416239233/update_aug31.rar (MD5: B8A4907DA15D46083E6D3517A5CE9F91)

This is how i update multiple PCs. its all the tmp2 files downloading during update (minus the last 3) extract and copy to the game dir with same structure and run game, it will see you already 'downloaded' the first 801(-3) files and get those.

worked here on 2 pcs and ill update my work pc tomorrow ;)
