You mean like WHMs doing Teleport-Bastok? If so they'd make a freaking killing...

Nevermind, had to re-read to get it, I still think the WHM thing would be interesting...

I would totally level whm next if that were the case :-P

I knew a guy who was dubbed the local 'DDR king, heavyweight division'. To this day is huge, but he plays DDR like a scrawny white kid on crack.
One of my friends in HS used to win DDR tournaments. This guy was litterally around 6'6 and about 110lbs and not because he had some eating disorder. He just had like 0 muscle

Wii Boxing is awesome lol.
I actually want to try Wii Sports/Wii Sports Resort with wrist weights to see how fast it'll tire me out.

Hmmm not a bad idea. Maybe throw on some ankle ones too and you know actually move around like you are doing the sport for real.

I used to wear some just in everyday life. Well I was on a sub so there was a bit of climbing and stuff lol. Still was interesting except for all the rubbing

They are saying "Professional Gamers", not even Hardcore gamers, Professional. These are the people who play games like athletes train for the Olympic games. They've turned a leisurely pastime into a stressful activity, where your livelihood depends on how much you played that week.

So they are essentially combining sedentary lifestyle with extreme mental stress. SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN, STAN!

I can't do it. Whenever I tried exercising at home it was too easy to put off, because all the things I really wanted to do were right there. Having to get off my *** and physically go to a gym, even if it was only two highway exits away, meant there was enough of a clean break that I would actually do what I needed to once I got there.

And I felt worse if I skipped, because failing to get my *** out of the house and "officially" missing a day of exercise was more of a negative feedback mechanism than being able to go "Oh, I'll just do more later..." or whatever.

Sort of building on Jaerik's comment. A professor once told me, "Play games, make games, have a life. Pick Two."
Totally stealing that line, because it's absolutely true.

In my experience, there are two kinds of game developers.

There are the ones who basically have stopped playing games as much as they used to, and have managed some separation between "life" and "work." They tend to do very well for themselves, and come off like professional business people or engineers. They also seem a lot happier.

There are also the ones who both make games and play games the same amount they did before they worked in the industry. These are the ones that make good money, but live four to an apartment, eat like hell, look pretty awful, etc. They aren't interested in any of the perks that come from their money (nice house, nice car, nice hobbies, etc) because they still get all of their sense of life accomplishment out of gaming. Many of them are crazy famous and successful, but then still bike home on a rusty bike (their second-hand 1984 Volvo broke down and they were too lazy to replace it), and crawl into a dorm-room sized messy apartment with sheets over all the windows to reduce glare, because the only thing they use "home" for is a place to put their computer.

Not saying one is better than the other. As long as you do good work, that's all I care about. Your life, your priorities. But it does seem to support the "pick two" argument.

All too true for me to. I tried to get some exercise going up and down on a stepladder since all my good clothes are currently in the washing machine, but temptation got the best of me. As well as the fact I got a small room so it gets warm in here fast.

Ugh, I am rather tired of people writing articles saying gaming is the devil.

But in reality, gaming doesn't contribute to anything worthwhile, especially when you could be doing something more productive with your spare time.

In defense of gaming, most entertainment doesn't contribute to anything worthwhile. You could argue that playing MMO's for 8 hours a day is "healthier" than sitting in front of a TV for 8 hours a day, like some people do. According to this study, at least you get the fighter pilot reflexes out of it!

Personally, I find most team sports pretty contrived and ridiculous. I once found myself explaining the ground-rule double and the tag-up in baseball to a non-American friend and realized half-way through "...wow, this really is kind of stupid, isn't it."

However, the thing that gets me is... the argument only works if games are still entertainment for you. I know a lot of people, especially at the high-end raid level in MMO's, who have severely blurred the line between entertainment and work. A lot of them very loudly *** that they're not having fun, that camping is lame, that waiting for pops is excruciating, that drama is annoying, etc. Honestly, they seem to spend 95% of their online time angry. You ask, "well why do you do it, if it's not fun?" and they say "Well getting the item at the end is fun."

How is that any different than putting up with *** at work for 40 hours a week to get a paycheck? Just, you know, without the paycheck?

In the scope of things that could be done in life, there are far more unproductive activities that could be done other than gaming. Although i may just be saying that to make myself feel better about playing this game for the last 6+ years

I say do what makes you happy as long as it isn't detrimental to others to a degree.

If you wanna game then game. Wanna go out for a drink then go for it. Just don't complain as it was your decision.

IT Manager, mid 20s, I barely do any movement or physical intensive activity at work or home. Stopped playing games "like that" about 2 years ago.

Even though this article is comparing the older generation of people where physical labor was a stable, back then, opposed to today where a lot of everyday tasks are automated, it's still not a good place to be when you're young.

I agree with this article. Thanks for putting it into perspective, I've felt myself starting to degrade but was afraid to admit it to myself. It'll be enough to get my *** up and moving a bit more. ^^b

proper no, fun yes, who wouldn't want this to be their primary source of physical fitness?!

to be fair it helps to be somewhat fit in the first place to attract the opposite gender(or same gender if thats what your into) to have sex.

Yes, of course, but as we all know possibly once 85% of all humans find a gf/bf (everyday sex partner), they stop working out and pay more attention to being successful in life.

Starts off with yeah, let's have hard, rough, endless sex doing just about everything in the book to okay let's take the 30 minutes to *** before we sleep, go to work and / or take a shower. So even if that was your main fitness activity, it dies off eventually, sometimes =P.

On a side note, can anyone recommend exercises? I'm 6ft and only 145 pounds... No matter what I eat or do I can't gain any weight =\.
