Playing this game(or any) with ventrilo or other sound systems makes it too intimate.
I just feel weird being in a house full of people and at the same time coordinating a digital battle. Anyone else draws the line there?

I think Vent/Skype make this game a lot more enjoyable, actually. ***is a lot easier to do, too. It's so convenient.

I think it's great for co-ordinating large battles and events. But I tend to avoid it during regular play because I don't like to feel like I have to be on there all the time like i know some ppl do.

I'm a really shy guy, so I feel the same way. Using in-game terms in a spoken conversation can also sound pretty silly.

Vent makes things fun.
I used to use it a lot while doing dynamis, not for to help organise, more to relieve the boredom. I also used it with FPS games (team based ones).
I have heard a few people say that speech programs are too personal, but never understood it. Especially when those people are openly talking about rather personal things in /p and /l chat.

Text chat keeps it feeling very anonymous. Like I said a lot of people come on the game just to escape, and telling someone about your latest problems via those methods is much the same as writing to an agony aunt in a newspaper column. The world evolves and so does the way people vent their personal things to unrelated people so they can feel better. Using voice chat completely destroys that.
While I understand that, I (personally) don't feel that way.
When I think over some of my linkshell conversations, I hear their voice (if I have never spoken to them I make one up) as if they were sat in the room talking to me (or on ventrilo), I don't remember the scrolling text of the game.
That may make me sound crazy, but that's just how my mind works

Probably, but then I again I don't vent my personal things in any internet situation, unless I know the person I'm talking to quite well.
I still don't feel comfortable about it though. Not comfortable irl and not comfortable ingame.
I don't usually go on vent because I listen to music while I play. If for some chance, I'm not listening to music or on youtube, then I'll hop on vent, but even then, more of a chance I'd hop on skype and chat w/ my MSN buddies.

I don't like vent for strategical purposes, it makes me feel too nerdy and I never have anything to say regarding it because tbh, I'm a sheep in game as far as endgame goes.
A couple us who post on the LS Ni here chat on vent sometimes which is nice, but that's about it. I don't get the feeling a person is "real" until I can at least hear them.

One of the linkshells I have we use vent for events, its not mandatory ofcourse, but those who dont use vent really miss out on alot of stuff. There's some really fun conversations going on there sometimes lol. We got some people that refuse to speak on vent but are still there to listen, which is fine too. But I guess it looks kinda odd in ls chat when people on vent answering questions asked in vent in the ls chat hehe

Most civilized people use Ventrillo, and I also agree, that It does make it alot easier to co ordinate large battles, and also.. it pretty much helps the user let everyone know( or other ppl) that your a REAL player, and that you are not just some Low down D bag that ppl WHO may think that of ya.
Can't judge a person by the way they type, or how they feel when they type something, actually getting to hear the person, puts a better understanding and meaning behind the voice! ( i.e IF I knew or heard Flion...he prolly wouldn't be such a creep..but I won't know, nor do I want to!)

I like talking on Skype w/ Poupee
We use Vent for most everything. It helps everyone on communication. You aren't forced to speak on there but I encourage everyone to liten. It is much easier to say "hey I'm paralzyed." on vent than type it out while tanking or w/e You tend to get a faster result when it comes to needing some thing quickly.
