The way they're drawn in fan art they are... In-game they are covered in hair/fur (although the graphics do not depict it well, just makes a them look like they have entirely fleshy ears/tail, which is creepy in and of itself), and have the wet cat-noses. That's "cat" enough for me! I believe miqo'te are what you are looking for. :P

Mithra are tanned! The reason the tail and ears look weird compared to the rest of the body is because it's meant to be a furry texture. Though yeah, they have odd noses.

If you watch the opening CG as my esteemed colleague Seha suggests, you'll see they are not covered in hair (well, no more so than a human).

It could be that way, I suppose. They made some pretty poor in-game design choices though, if their intention was to differentiate between the ears/tail and the rest of the body. The ears and the nose have the same dark shading, yet one is supposed to be covered in hair and the other not? And what's the deal with us (mithra) having cool lion-like tufts of hair at the end of our tails as children, only to have it be reverted to a stupid orange smudge when we get older? Damn you, SE! :(

Edit: Still, it doesn't really explain why the ears and the skin are the exact same tone, if one is supposed to have fur and the other not. You can say it's being tan from the sun, but if you look at the male mithra (Lehko Habhoka), his ears and skin are both much, much lighter than any of the other mithra we see, but his ears are still the exact same color as the rest of his body.

For real though, I think mithra are pretty cool on their own. I'm a female though, so I am probably not wearing the same fetish-goggles as anyone else. :P

As for reasons for preferring one or the other, "sexy" is a perfectly valid reason. After all, "sexy" is the reason I prefer women over men ...

Tarus tend to appeal to cuteness and Mithra to sexiness. I just much prefer the latter over the former.

So what if Mithras have boobs and cat ears, that genetics. Tarus have short stumpy legs and speech impediments and the Mithras still choose to primarily cohabitate in the TaruTaru home city. I think thats a point for Taru-Tarus, cause you know it makes all the elvaans and Humes jealous.

But it's also on purpose. As a proud Elvaan, I understand we tend to keep Mithra out of Sandy just because if they were there, no work would ever get done.
