That same issue can be had with some irl. IRL you can TRY to get to know the person, their friends, and their family, but they can also lie just as easy and fake just as easy as someone online. As I said, my ex was living proof of such a thing. He was trying to see other girls while we were together, and even his friends knew of these actions and while they were nice and kind to me, their naturally not going to rat out their own friend. As I said, its all down to how much your willing to trust and give it your all. All online relationships really have is talking and words. Its why its so much harder is you have to rely on just the voice you hear on the phone, and the person typing to you behind the computer. You have to be willing to trust them and hope that they are true to word. And its hardest thing to give because you can't physically see and touch that person. You can't watch what their doing irl. But, your taking that same chance with someone you can see and touch. The guy I was with use to go on about loving me and wanting to marry me, would treat me like I was the perfect girl, and then in same bit turn around and ask other chicks out, and tell others our relationship was going to hell (stuff he never shared with me x.x).

Its all down to how much you can handle the wait, how much trust your willing to give. Right now all I can do is talk with my bf. But we also mail each other things on holidays, etc. We talk about how much money we save up to see each other so that we both know where the other stands. Hes talked to my Mom some as my family was leery of the whole online dating bit. We've been saving up money for a visit and hopefully going to get to meet each other at the end of this month or middle of next if everything goes as planned *crosses fingers*. I guess in way thats the action your speaking of. Taking that effort to try and meet them, save up the money, take the time off from work, and in his case get a visa and passport to fly over here. When someone is willing to spend almost $800 to come see you for the first time, I think thats it big risk and leap on their part.

Edited to add this as well: Part the things we've done for each other so we can stay in touch is he'll stay up late so that he can see me when I get home from work. That way we can talk on the phone or online, see how each others day went, make sure that other is fine and sometimes hang out on the game. Keep in mind I don't get home til 10 pm est, and he's 5 ahead of me XD. So he sacrifices good solid sleep, or he'll sleep in during the day so he can see me later. I've stayed up really late myself as well. Also if we sometimes go for a length of time where hes trying catch up on that lost sleep and im working alot, he'll switch his days off at work to match with mine, and me do the same for him so that we can have a day together to hang out on the game or talk on the phone. Not sure if you consider those actions, but for me I think its proof were taking it seriously and trying make every effort to make sure it works.

The main reason I turn a deaf ear to in game dating or online dating in any form is due to the fact that it is far too easy and (in their own mind) justified to deceive the other person to get their way. Who someone is online more often than not is not who they are in the real world.

I do however give credit for those who overcome the obstacles of online anonymity and struggles and manage to make a healthy relationship function in the real world together.

I <3 getting random tells from people I've only briefly encountered asking if something is wrong. Not sure exactly how she did it but the timing was perfect. Lifer if fate would smile upon me for once. I'm a firm believer in "everything happens for a reason" since I can give several examples to prove it. I've never wanted to try e-dating or to a lesser extent flirting over FFXI. I see a female character talking and flirting to me in game and generally acting a bit whorish, I can't help but see a 40 year old over weight guy sitting on the other end in his underpants scratching his *** and eating a packet of hob-nobs, I just can't shake that image...

Not to say every female character is like that though, I've just heard and read a few horror stories that put me in the state of mind not to dabble in internet relationships - call me old fashioned, but I'd rather meet a woman randomly then be all like "yeah I like to play a game called FFXI now and then..." and then she'd be like "oh wow! I have a lvl75 rdm whm blm blu smn nin & war! Let's have sex!" That'd be so awesome

We hide <_< really obscure places, we don't /sit in eachother so its a lap thing, we're both tarus so its kinda..awkward that way, so we just sit facing eachother.

We sit in like..Chateau d'Oraguille in the garden or in Misareaux Coast right by the waterfall, rarely run into people. We're really not much for PDA, ***we don't even talk to eachother in linkshell or party, its all in tells, MSN or ventrilo.

I must say though, we have met and have plans to see each other again, and I also met her parents, who both play the game as well so its not that bad really.

And FFXI is actually a really good way to help determine some aspects of an indvidual's true character. I'm not talking about how someone tries to portray themself, but rather through their actions. Are they willing to help others selflessly? Are they a total pixel ***? You'd be amazed by how much you can learn about someone by simply watching them engage with others... online or in-person.

For those that enjoy excessive amounts of PDA, ew. Sucking face in public is plain tacky and chances are you are overcompensating for whatever's lacking behind closed doors.
