I'd like to see FFIX get more attention, myself. Maybe a Remake, a sequel, or a movie or something. I've heard Square actually wanted to do a sequel, but lost interest.
But a FFVI remake.. Yeah, that would be cool.

Quote: Finishing the game @ 100% is also a great accomplishment, imo.
You don't have to 100% the game to finish FFX-2 with 100% though :p I finished it at 100% in the last chapter even before I did a few of the sections. I dunno exactly how the %s are calculated but you don't need to do everything.
Suikoden II was absolutely amazing :( not incredibly challenging but it's still a really good game to today's standards. I've played all but 3 (didn't come out in UK fuuuu) and it's easily the best of them, though I and V are also good... not a huge fan of IV.
Personally I didn't really like FFXII. Huge waste of potential and the battle system started off really nice but for some reason I didn't like it after awhile.

I support any remake 1-8 (IX is perfect the way it is) as long as its PS3 exclusive. God knows that if they made any remake for Xbox, they'd have to cut some content out of it >_>'.
A VI remake would be amazing, actually, with PS3 graphics. Terra is so yum.

I don't think a remake of VI on the PS3 would work. The graphical style is far more suited for 2D.
Dissidia was Ok, got level 100 Kefka, Squall and Emperor :D

Tactics is my favorite. Even though the story is convoluted, it kinda reminds me of a Guy Ritchie film in that it all makes sense and is totally immersive while I'm playing, even if I can't tell you exactly what the plot is when I'm done. And the PSP rerelease was so niiiice. XII is right behind it ... I guess I'm an Ivalice gal. (One of these days I'm gonna replay me some Vagrant Story.)
For a long time VII was my favorite. It was my introduction to the series at a formative period in my life. It even set me on the path I'm on now. But going back and replaying it solicits a solid 'meh' now. It isn't so much that the visuals are dated (they are, but no worse than any sprite-based game), but that the story is something that teenage me ate up. Adult me sorta rolls her eyes at all that angst.
Raen, I agree -- Suiko II is one of my favorites. :D

Thing with FF7 is that introduced so many people to the series that so many consider it their favorite just because of that, which I mean, makes sense in a way. However, its also a one-sided way of looking at things.

FF7 was a landmark for its time and its no suprise that many people hold fond memories of it. However taking it into perspective with all the other FF games that have been made - its hard for me personally to say its the best. I did enjoy the game at the time and im sure if i picked it up that id enjoy it today but - if you take it into perspective with other games that have been made these days then you will see that the game really is nothing special. It being the first 3D RPG for many is a weak card to play if you expect that to be able to float your reasoning for it being the best FF of all time.
FF8 was good but it wasnt great. It had some really great parts and features in it. The addition of the Card game Triple Triad was just a welcome suprise and I personally spent ages just going around having games of cards. I hated the draw system with a passion but the story, characters and world helped to keep me entertained. However at the end the entire story started to wane with regards to 'time compression' pseudoscience which I felt woulda just gone over a few peoples heads and really woulda been a bad concept. The entire final CD was a bit of a let down.
FF9 sucked. Seriously you do 99% of the game and then on the very last fight its "i will destroy the crystal" or some crap. If I woulda been there ida said "sure go ahead i never heard of it before so it cant be important". The only thing that even hints at a crystal in the entire game is the box art. FF9 = FFAIL. I loved how you learned spelld and abilities by keeping equipment equiped and I loved some of the characters such as steiner and vivi. But overall the game was just really annoying in parts due to the melodies of life song and tune being played at every place possible made the ending music ultimately less welcoming.
FF10. I felt FF10 was a decent game - however I didnt really approve of completely losing a world map. I felt that was a strange way of taking things but ultimately I guess it did indeed pay off. It being the first FF game with voice acting I have to say that I was really pleasantly suprised being able to hear what was going on and feel move involved with the game than just reading text - however I guess a lot of people missed being able to just imagine the voices themselves like people reading a book. (The price of ongoing interactivity) I thought the world was well thought out and really fun to play. Blitz ball was a bit of a let down and should have been expanded on to be made more playable.
Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX). I thought this game was just epic. The graphics were not too special but what it lacked in graphics it made up for in story. The world itself was the first time ive heard of ivalice and im sorry that they decided to overuse it for other places trying to make it as common as the name Cid or Biggs and Wedge. The world of ivalice shoulda remained just in tactics imo. The battle system was the first time that actual tactics were needed to win some of the battles which makes a change from the general hack and slash approach that other FF games have.
Anyways. W/e. WYou like what you like and you hate what you hate. But saying FF7 is the best FF because it was the first in 3D is a poor poor excuse for it to be given such high praise. Real reasons please.
I cant really comment on FF6 because i could never make myself play it @.@

FF9 was just ok, but the characters were total fail.
Zidane has some kind of Cloud/Squall moment 'Nobody likes me! I'm all alone! I don't need anybody. OMFG WHO AM I!!?. Steiner was a dumbass in every sense of the world. Eiko was a 7 yr old with a whole in her pants and WTF is with Quina? Vivi and that rat girl weren't too bad I guess.

That's exactly what I was thinking too!
I got bored with 7 after getting to the golden saucer part. I like 'meh. Why are we doing this again?' and decided to play the FFT: The Lion Wars for the 5th time. That game never gets old.

Ditto. It's a great game, but they focused so much on the typical teenage unjustified angst that at my current age I find to be just boring and emo. Although when I was 13 it was like "OMG BEST STORY EVAR" lol.
Overall, 6 had the epic story with the justification to every given emotion and course of action. Nine too had a pretty decent story that followed through quite well.

I liked Tactics but I've never really found it -that- amazing; the story I agree is really nice until it just becomes your typical good vs evil. The balance is pretty terrible in that you have decently strong classes... quite strong attackers... and then Ninja, Samurai and such just pop out of nowhere and are ridiculously strong. Also Orlandeau.

dumb. rest valuable resources just to play a game we all already played "Just with better graphics" um, no. Sure make that on the side but its not something all efforts should be poured into. Get real. That will be a greatest hits but it wont be the best thing there ever was. Oh and yea if you talk to most FF fans. Seriously not even joking. The real gamer fans love the FF7 "story", not the graphics. Ask all real gamer fans. its 7/10 at least
Keep coming out with the new games. Yes please.
If you want to remake FF7 with better graphics, go right ahead for all them FF7 fans, but dont drop everything else for it.

I think people who like turn based strategy like FFT the best. The first time you goto Dorter can be pretty challenging and doesn't always play out exactly the same.

I do like turn-based strategy (<3 Fire Emblem) and I do like Tactics, I just don't see it as anywhere near the best FF. That said, people probably feel the same about my favourites and those are the beauty of varying opinions. Regardless, Tactics is a great game.

I think this is a bit silly and I'm not just saying this because I loved #7 (I loved #8 too, the blasphemy!). Lots of fans love ff12, lots of them (myself included) don't really like it much - I don't consider them not "real gamers" though. Each FF has a different style/experience/taste to it and it's perfectly understandable how people can love one FF and dislike another.

I think it had something to do with the main FF theme in beautiful orchestrated beauty at the opening title and having a total badass (Balthier) and a half naked bunny chick.
Also it was nice for SE to go off the beaten path of romanced themed plots and go with what was in essence Star Wars >_>

Raen, I agree -- Suiko II is one of my favorites. :D ^ The Ivalice team produced my two of my three top favorite games, being FFT and Vagrant Story, and the style is really well-replicated in XII. I knew it was the same team as Vagrant as soon as they did a zoom-in of a character snooping around in the background in XII lol. They did a few Ogre games as well, I think.
I still replay FFT religiously even though it's been at least a decade. Sadly, I think the "Advance" titles are just super ironic because they are totally watered down lol.

Yeah, the Han/Chewie dynamic (lol just typed that as "dynamis") that Balthier and Fran had was easily one of my favorite elements of the story. It was refreshing to see a male and female team having wild adventures and being BFF without getting romantic.

Caiyuo. :D
Yeah, for me the big tipoff was Balthier's character design -- from the back, he looks like he stepped straight out of Vagrant Story. The Ivalice Alliance has produced some really quality stuff, though. How does Vagrant Story hold up after all these years? I'm sorta afraid of popping it in and being disappointed.
(Tactics Advance had fun gameplay for me. The story was pretty lol when you held it up next to Tactics/VS, but I enjoyed the judge system, as arbitrary as it could be.)

But a FFVI remake.. Yeah, that would be cool. You are right, FFIX was supposed to be the first FF in the series to have a direct sequel. If you paid attention to the story there was a huge plot hole. Kuja claims if the Ifia Tree dies the destruction of Gaia would follow. The plan was the sequel was supposed to revolve around that plot hole however the sequel never happened sadly.
