For a while now, i've been getting an error message from windows when i load FFXI. PoL works fine, i can access my messages go on my friend list and even send messages. But each time i hit "Play", it gives me the error message. I've tried to file repair, but it doesn't help. Does this mean i have to Re-install the game? I seriously dont feel like doing that 7 hour ffxi update :/ Any suggestions? I've tried to cancel it, but all it does is continue as if it was gonna load then gives me another one that i cannot cancel and i have to manually kill the program. And if i let it go, it asks me to insert the FFXI installation CD's which i don't have atm... Help plz.

Can you elaborate on the error message given when you hit play? If it is what I think it is, this is merely a graphics setting issue conflicting with your current resolution setting. Easily remedied via the original FFXI config setup program given to you post installment of the game.

It starts off Saying "Please wait while Windows Configures Final Fantasy XI" Then, "Gathering required Information" then something like : "The action you are trying to do requires CD ,please insert FFXI installation CD

Sounds like your install never fully went through onto your hard drive. Might wanna just retry the installation. Luckily for you the worst part of it is the update =/

If you got the HD space, spare yourself the grief and make an ISO image of the disc(s). Or better yet put that on removable storage so you'll always have a backup installation/files on demand should anything go awry.

Also, check HD sectors to make sure nothing is wrong with your actual hard drive. Cause that would suck D:

This happened when I copied install to new HDD. The reg keys weren't exactly there. If you let it finish, it'll just file check and update the registry. But ya, you need the disc(s).

I learned a lazy way of re-installing FFXI without having redownload everything if it helps. I did it when I upgraded to Win 7.

- Rename the whole FFXI folder to something else. It's probably named PlayOnline in C:\Program Files, but I just have mine in F:\FFXI

- Reinstall POL and FFXI

- Take the whole /rom folder and copy or move it to the new FF folder.

Result: a properly installed FF and POL but with all the downloaded updated (and .dat mods).

I got that message when my mcaffee antivirus ate my ffxi files. If you can do a system restore to a point when it did work, do that and then watch what your antivirus does.
