I don't have the patience to read Wheel of Time saga. For some reason it doesn't hook me up at all. I read the whole Sword of Truth Saga and Law of the Nines (Read this one if you haven't! Better yet if you finished Sword of Truth books), and true, Wizard's first rule was kinda slow after the beginning but after that, it just hooks you and you cant stop. Right now I'm reading the Witches of Mayfair series by Ann Rice, oldie, but goodie.
I also read the first book of Riftward Saga by Raymond Feist. Was very good, but didnt continue the second book as I had a very bad ebook copy and it was painful to read in Stanza.

This. Though I would suggest you give WoT another go tbh.. Where did you get to? It gets much better after book 6, and is well worth forcing your way to there. I especially love the newest ones.. I reread them so many times.

Anything by Robin Hobb, especially to George RR Martin fans waiting for his next book. Her stories are a little less "epic" in scope, but uses some very similar themes. Start with Assassin's Apprentice. Om.

These were probably mentioned already, but A Song Of Ice And Fire by George R. R. Martin and The Name Of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I have read excerpts of both of them online and I just know that these would be good investments.

I've also heard quite a bit of this latest book series called The Way Of Kings, by Brandon Sanderson. Just thought I'd give it a mention since I have only heard positive things about this upcoming book series. Meant to be 10 books though... that's quite a lot lol.

EDIT: Apologies about the necro bump

The Emberverse series by SM stirling.

Dies the Fire (2004) shows the effects on the planet—a world Nantucket left—of something called "The Change". Electricity, guns, explosives, internal combustion engines, and steam power no longer work. The series mostly deals with the Willamette Valley area of Oregon, with some description of the United Kingdom. After describing how people in those places survive the loss of 600 years of technological progress, the primary focus of this series turns to a conflict between a Portland-based neo-feudal dictatorship created by a sociopathic history professor, and the free communities of the Willamette Valley, most notably the Wiccan Clan Mackenzie and a group led by a former Marine, the Bearkillers.

Of course you could read the Nantucket series first

In Island in the Sea of Time the island of Nantucket is transported by an unknown phenomenon (called "The Event" in the series) back in time into the Bronze Age circa 1250s BC (corresponding to the late Heroic Age of Greek mythology). The trilogy describes the conflict between the different factions of the island's population—some trying to dominate the world for their own benefit, others trying to better it, while most just want to survive, work hard, and claw their way back to something approaching their pre-Event way of life.

Both series are linked.

The Night Angel Trilogy, by Brent Weeks. This is a very good set of books about the life story of a "wetboy" named Azoth, a mage assassin. Through magic and the power of a relic known as a Ka'kari, you can watch as one born into the life of poverty becomes the hope of a nation.
The Kingkiller Chronicles, by Patrick Rothfuss. This is an as-yet completed series, however, books one and two are currently out. This series follows the life of Kvothe, who through magic, music, and tragedy enthralls you into the story from the very beginning.

House of Night series - Vampires
Twilight Saga - Vampires and Werewolves
*Halo+Hades (will be a third book) {I'm calling this the Angel Saga for my own agenda, since it doesn't really say}
Guild Hunter Novels - Angels, Vampires, Humans, Archangels, and very sexual.
Nora Roberts' Books - She writes everything. Supernatural to reality.
The Vampire Diaries - Vampires, Werewolves, Humanity, Witches.
True Blood series - Vampires, Witches, Werewolves. Also sexual.
Mercedes Thompson series - Werewolves, Vampires, Ghosts, Witches, Fae.

Don't know if you'll like any of those. Or if you're interested in what I like. Lol Just throwing some things out. XD

If you like books based off games or movies, you might try the Gears of War books by Karen Traviss. I like them better than the games, actually, but they use all the same character and explain things about the games, like Marcus and Anya's pasts, Dom's brother, and peeks into Cole and Baird. Also explains why Hoffman left Marcus to die in prison.

If you like fantasy, other than the ones I mentioned earlier in this thread, you can try the Kitty series by Carrie Vaughn. A girl named Kitty is turned into a werewolf and has to fight to leave an abusive pack, etc.

There's also the Hollows series by Kim Harrison, about a witch named Rachel.

I'm sure someone must have already mentioned it, but the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman is excellent. By far one of my favorites.

You could try stepping away from the fantasy-esque series and read some literary classics. Y'know, like Paradise Lost or the Divine Comedy. Good stuff in those old texts. Also... anything Shakespeare.

Ironically, both Milton and Dante featured fantastic/romantic elements in the two stories you mentioned. ^_-

But yes, /agreed. :p

Dean Koontz books are quite good if you like scary stories. I have had to stay up all night finishing them in the past because I could not sleep until the monster or whatever was wrong had been slayed/righted.

I like the Inferno, but the other two parts of the Comedy were kinda boring. Shakespeare is great though, some of my favorite lit classes were Shakespeare study classes. It's hard to narrow it down to one favorite Shakespeare play, but if I had to, I might choose A Midsummer Night's Dream. There are six different story lines going on, Hermia-Lysander, Helena-Demetrius, Titania, Oberon, the Players (actors producing a play), and the marriage of Theseus to Hippolyta. It's set around the events coming up around the marriage, and the characters and their stories just run into each other in the most hilarious ways.

Please don't read Romeo and Juliet, it's not a love story. It's a lust story involving a nearly adult Romeo and a 13-year old Juliet who have seen each other once and decide to say eff all to everything else and do whatever they please, which promptly results in several deaths. It's not cute.

If you want to read non-boring, almost-classic classics, try Lord of the Flies. It's awful. It's a good, well-written, awful book. Some people like Steinbeck books too, like The Grapes of Wrath or Of Mice and Men. Those are both also awful books, but they are bad-awful, not good-awful. I won't even read anything by Steinbeck anymore, I can't stand him, but a lot of people do like them.

Walden by Thoreau is really boring, he will spend pages describing the precise bluish-green color of one fish scale of one fish in one little clump of weeds in one area of the pond. If I saw Thoreau on the streets and had Walden in my back pocket, I would slap him with it. If you want to read a lonely wilderness book, try Desert Solitaire instead. It's much better. Abbey does reference Walden at times, but he's not half as dull as Thoreau.

Animal Farm and 1984 go well together.

Watch a documentary on communism first or something if you don't know that much about it. It will make the books that much better.
