Scrumpet, you're defending yourself too much. XD I know people from Mexico (who are here legally but not citizens, for the record) and it makes me happy when they're loud and proud about their heritage. You should own it a bit more. ;) USA melting pot is boring.

People like that make me want to choke them. I can understand doing/seeing/something better once in a while, but EVERY story!? Gets ridiculously annoying after a while.

It is really difficult to "connect" with a culture that you were never immersed into. I live in a really weird place, haha. Since I live literally fifteen minutes from Mexico, I have learned the language, some of the culture, and their traditions, however, I feel it is inadequate! D: For the same reason, I can't say I am "fully American". I've lived in a place that is almost a hybridization zone, a mesh between Mexican and American (otherwise known as Chicano) cultures, respectively.
For example, I celebrate Día de los Muertos by cleaning up the graves of my family, placing fresh flowers, and paying my respects a little longer than I usually would with them. I don't eat a dinner with them, I don't make an altar for them, and I don't offer them a sugar skull, haha. (Although I do eat Pan de Muerto~ <3)
Same thing applies to American holidays. . .
For example the Fourth of July is celebrated, by many, very patriotically; not so in my case. If at best, we meet up, pop some cheap fireworks, and then we go inside to spend time together. Again, very distant from being "American".

tl;dr
I certainly don't disown my Mexican and Spanish heritages but, I've never been immersed into them and cannot properly vouch for them. If need be, I know a sufficient amount of information about them though~ :3
