ignorance or not is no excuse to be so rude.

I completely agree. Unfortunately that place is so cliquish...I've seen someone be offended by the "n" word, and try and do something about it...and was subsequently railroaded out of the company.

I fear if I say anything like that, I'll wind up the same way. :/

I know this is the "happy" thread about daily life and such, but I did read this article just today on MSNBC...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39584217/ns/local_news-portland_or/

...and I know I preach to the choir here, but the article did rub me the wrong way. I do fully realise the need to watch what one says around naturally inquisitive children especially for teaching professionals, and that there are always "more diplomatic" and guarded ways of saying things that could otherwise be very blunt, but at the same time where does honesty and sincerity end and evasive fabrication begin? And at what age are children not allowed to know about such things?

If the man in question is true about who he is, I think his initial replies regarding his marital status, and his further explanations were sincere. I am not entirely sure he stated them with the intention of giving the children a "lesson in awareness of a social issue" and asking them to take a stand on it--I for certain could easily see myself saying the same exact thing.

I keep trying to step back and see it from the perspective of a parent who might wish to talk to their children on their own about the nature of preference and marriage and their right to have that discussion on their own terms, but the student teacher has the right to be who he is also, and the child's question didn't have anything to do with what was being taught. I do worry that gay and lesbian teachers in that district are being asked to "keep hush" about who they are as a result.

EDIT: LOL *cues Oumura-bump to get the thread going again* >.>
Honestly, if the parent isn't going to teach the child about things like that and they ask a teacher, the teacher is within their rights to answer, not only honestly but in a way that well, teaches them something, thats their job after all and what he said wasn't inappropriate. If a parent wants to try to believe that gay marriage and gays don't exist, thats their problem, but children notice and they're going to ask questions, if they [the parents] don't want their kids learning certain things, maybe they should tell them not to ask questions like that, if anything, the kid didn't need to ask about a teachers marital status.

It wouldn't surprise me if the gay/lesbian teachers were being told to keep quiet or they'd lose their jobs, its not right, but I'm sure it happens sadly.

Yeah, that's why I started posting here. Gotta have a support group of sorts to talk about random things, among others. There's one thing I learned about people, most are very happy being ignorant and glaring at you disapprovingly, but when speaking to members of the big gay sandwich, it seems to all end up with "aw come on babe, give us a hug, we love you!"

This is also why I don't get people who seem really adamant about hating gay people. Nice/Fabulous people are a good thing! :/

Don't worry, that's why I said most people (and logically that would be referring to people I've met, directing things at me, or at friends/people I know/see) and not all non-gay people. Non-gay people can be fabulous too! I think they call them metro or something.

Good morning everyone :)

I hope y'all are doing ok and will be having a good day. Before I head into work I want to put this up. After seeing it and even though I have the game myself I felt like, well.....I got punched in the midsection :( simply because I bought it.

Gametrailers gives ff14 a horrid rating 0.o
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/review-hd-final-fantasy/705893

Even though I haven't played it fully just yet (been really busy), for those that have so far, your thoughts and assurances please so I can punch Gametrailers in the groinal region.

Punch them regardless. Punch the retard from Gamespot that reviewed it as well. The man has obviously never played a game that required an individual to think.

While the game is lacking in more than a few areas, the current shape its in is no different than XI was at release. The only difference here is that we were spoiled by getting XI after it had already received updates almost a year after its JP release. To expect more from XIV at its initial international release (not to mention the plethora of retards comparing it to an already 7 year old game) is just idiotic.

While in no way does this exempt SE from an wrongdoing, notably the absolutely HORRIBLE decision to keep menus etc server-side, it only means they haven't learned from their mistakes.
Is it a shame? Yes. Does it mean the game is forever doomed? Most certainly not. Those who enjoy it will continue to play, and those that loathe it will continue to try and convince others to loathe it along with them, albeit ignored by those with any sense of individuality rather than be a sheep. Yes I am slightly biased, but I am also a firm believer in "Don't knock it until you try it."

/endrant
Have a wonderful day.

I'm actually understanding of low rankings. I felt the game felt unfinished, and really shouldn't have been released yet. I'm hoping by March or so, all the terrible bugs will be worked out. There's a lot of positive in the game they missed, likely due to not playing FF11 for years, and seeing the differences. FF11 on release was also unfinished feeling, and very clunky, and at the time also deserved a low rating.

That's probably one of the hardest things about rating an MMO, they're forever changing. Look how FF11 started, then look at the last couple years of it...big change.

I'm just hoping we don't have to wait 7 years for good change to come to the game.

Still can't get over how beautiful it is. I could just gobble it all up nomnomnom

You and Kal have some good points. Normally I don't take ratings from critics very seriously but from what Fou has been telling me about his experience left me to question, but not a full doubt about 14. I'm a believer in giving things a chance, 14 is no excetption after much thinking about what you both have said here. I will be more patient about this for sure.

Well I'm off to work, talk to ya'll later.

I miss the cold. Having grown up in Ohio for the last 16 years I always looked forward to winter. Something about bundling up just felt right. :) Sitting by the fire with your special someone, snowballs, skiing, even just taking a walk... (I'm sappy so sue me.)

Being in Texas for now its just hot hot and more hot, lol. I miss my winters already, but I wouldn't trade who I have right now for anything in the world...
