Need to pick a book to read next... anyone read any of these and have suggestions?

Yeh it's Game of Thrones or the other one for the most part... Game of Thrones wasn't so much suggested to me that I pick it up as it was dictated that I would be reading it XD
I really loved the Game of Thrones TV show so it prompted to me to pick up the first book.
As with most other examples, I enjoyed the book more.

I watched the Game of Thrones TV show and I feel like I wouldn't want to read it as a book. For me, I think it fits better as a TV show then a book.
I just liked having explanations and little side ends to further flesh out the characters.
Like, the book is much much better at explaining exactly why Catelyn hates Jon Snow wheras the TV show just leaves it for you to figure out. Just things like that.
They are both excellent in their own right.

You really can't compare books to tv/movies when one is made off the other imo... there just 2 compleatly different forms of entertainment.

I guess it depends on what type of Media you are able to resonate with best.
I know people who can't get into movies because they are unable to get past the knowledge that these people are actors, sets, suchthelike and are only able to commit to a story if they can imagine the characters for themselves.
And I know other people who simply cannot invest in a book because they respond better to visual stimulus.
I'm happy whatever keeps my mind off the downpours or riots for a few hours =)

I can't enjoy books anymore because required readings for university have fried my brain to the point where reading anything longer than a paragraph makes me want to vomit up internal organs, basically.
That sucks : ( maybe we just need to find you a book with a sexy man character?
I don't really look at porn, so I doubt that would help :P

Haha I have a similar experience. My degree is in Media and the first year totally ruined movies and TV for me. Production showed me all the cuts and shots and totally took me out of the actual show.
I dunno, I just think all you need is a really decent book to give your mind some schoolwork rest. Maybe as mentioned above, featuring a hot male protagonist haha.

I can pretty much only read non-fiction, anymore. If I try to read fiction I feel guilty like I'm wasting some precious resource or something lol.

Oh neat, is that FFXIV? I actually own it but I never really got into it.
I had *no* clue what I was doing and the linkshells were all kinda cliquey or had entry requirements.
I hear good things about it now though, I might give it a bash =)

Edit: there is a bit more to do in the game now too... they added a whole bunch of npc based quests which is what made me willing to give it another go. supposedly we get chocobos and airships next update.

Game of Thrones (Song of Ice and Fire) is great, but I can't recommend them to people anymore.
At the rate of one book every six years, and the pacing of the story in the past two books, we're looking at another 25-30 years before they're finished.
They're good. Just not 45-combined-years-of-my-life good. I have no idea what they're going to do when the TV series runs out of material.
