Why Are JP So Anti-english?

I am not trying to offend any JP who should read this, I am only curious. You see I live in New Zealand meaning that when I want to EXP, its JP prime-time. For the most part I wont get invited by any of them, even with [Language]: [anything] in my search comment. After a while I get frustrated and attempt to make a party. I'll ask a JP who is seeking, normally like this, [Excuse me...] [Level sync] XX [Do you need it?]. This is relatively polite isn't it? Most of the time I wont recieve an answer even when I know they are not AFK. I usually don't ask anyone with JP PT ONLY in search comment. So, I'm just wondering, what makes JP so against english players? To any Japanese players who are reading this, an answer would be MUCH appreciated

And there is a lot of friction between JA and NA cause of the NA player stereotype.

I had a feeling it would be something to do with NA, if only New Zealand was in auto-translate... maybe then they would reply, at least.

I think he means you can't do [New Zealand] as an auto-translate word. Based on the OP I believe he is using auto-translate when inviting players.

Coming from Australia I share your frustration mate.

It started because they didn't want outsiders invading their game.

Yeah, exactly Raiderxxii. Saying there's no easy way to let JP know I'm not NA. If they don't invite english players because of the language barrier, being too hard to give instructions on camp location etc. then they are astoundingly lazy. With a little effort I can conduct a moderately civilized conversation in auto-translate, telling a JP player where camp will be is child's play....

What does that mean?

We often use w in the LS for the fun of it.

Just be aware of the party customs. Like, when they ask you to party, you gather at the specified location, usually where the signet is and wait with all of them. Then you move as a group to the chocobo NPC.

The custom is to lock on, and wait till the PT ldr says something and everyone will ride the boko.

And the leader will take you to camp.

Japanese parties do not replace people, firstly, cause it's considered rude to the person who needs to leave. And will usually disband either in time or TNL basis.

If someone needs to urgently go, they will disband.

Exceptions naturally occur but this is the standard.

Its because by nature, were lesser ruder, more agressive players. JP PT Only more or less is a "***Filter" of kinds. Now this isnt all of them, some JPs find me funny and likes me because I always try to be super nice to them to get rewelcomed in there circles. Always doing <Good Job!> or <Impossible to gauge> <*Job Here*> or say thank you a lot when your invited, and dont do stupid things like agro the whole zone, or get lost, etc. I find when I'm in a mix pt, some english people can be horribly rude to them, like when they talk there like WTF PLEASE USE THE AUTO TRANSLATE I DONT UNDERSTAND SCRIBBLES. If they were talking to you, they probably would of :p Again, in general I just see a lot of hate/grudge in between our languages. But then again this is just the way I see it, there just like everyone else. Sidenote, dunno if this is true, but someone told me once, the Auto translate makes no *** scence to them whatsover, like if were to say "Cure" it come out on there end "Scroll of cure <t>" etc, there were some other examples I forget. ; ;

The simpliest answer I can give you from experience from someone playing almost exclusively JP time has to be the attitude. Most NA players you will encounter while pting up for experience points are ignorant and rude. Not going to defend JP players either, they have some among themselves aswell, but sadly the majority falls on NA.

If you want some tips for exping during JP, always be polite when asking them to pt. "Excuse me, hello, good evening, experience points party do you need it?" or lv sync with the level you plan on syncing to. If someone declines you, dont bribe them.... or pester them. If you have more JPs in your pt, you can add that aswell to help them make a decision. As there is a language barrier, having another JP member gives them someone to talk to.

If you're the pt leader, make sure you have a camp ready or a rough idea where you are camping, and any back up camps. Ask before hand if they are comfortable with that camp. Be considerate, if you are the pt leader, make a /seacom of the camp/zone you have. Brush up on your auto translate skills aswell lol, it might not be exact but its the best you have unless you know/understand JP.

and "excuse me, lv sync xx do you need it?" is more informal than it is polite.

You are not saying hello, and you are not greeting them, its JP time so its evening, so excuse me, hello, good evening would be polite. You can toss in a "^^" or " _(_ _)_ " to be friendly.


Be prepared not to always get a response, for me, this is where the rude JP part comes from, never getting a response, even if its a no, please tell me, its very simple, /no. thats all.

* They don't like the fact non-JP are in 'their' game
* They don't like the replacement system many English speaking players (there view is you form a party and all play until the party ends, then disband)
* They don't like the English speakers play style, they prefer a more defensive and conservative play style (DD /NIN, BLM /WHM, COR /WHM etc) whereas a lot of 'us' want to use aggressive subs.
* There is a lot of 'bad blood' from the early days where some English speaking players weren't nice to the JPs (demanding money and help)
* They don't like the english speakers style of communication. JP shouts often contain things like "I am sorry to bother you all", where as we just shout for whatever we want with no consideration for the people in the zone.

I have reasonable success playing with JPs, if I am trying to form a party I always start my tells with 'こんにちは' (which is hello ran through babefish) and always try to welcome them into the party with a JP phrase.

Being polite to a JP and using a little JP (even if you can't really understand it) goes a loooong way.

But for the now, I just asked a bilingual JP/english player, and they told me that

Generally I have found it doesn't matter how good your JP is, or how bad a job the translating website did. A lot of JPs view it as the thought that counts.

This deply desturbs me, sometimes I wish we had language only servers, One they probably did nothing to help make the game, other then it was made on there land. Two, isnt that some sort of rasism? Sorry for the kinda "Can't we all get along" mentality, but there is no need for ruffled feathers over differnt types of people in a game. Were all human.

Japanese are culturally and historically very closed to what comes from abroad (at least when they don't know you). Be polite, use auto-translate as much as possible, if you don't get any answer or "no thanks", tell them with auto-translate "<= {American} X T.T" or something like that, if you have a good setup tell them, this may make them accept, and use smileys! (even though you can't compare with theirs XD).

I think JP are so anti-NA partly because some NA people can't conceive some people don't speak english (A large majority of japanese people don't speak english, really), and can be unpolite and aggressive quite easily (JP are very respectful). Also, as they usually don't speak english, if they are alone in th ePT, they might find it boring and feel excluded. Maybe if you already have some japanese people in the PT you can tell the pople you are asking that you have some JP players.

"w" stands for the japanese word "warau" (pronounce like "walaou" , though "r" is more like a "l" with the tongue on the palate than purely a "l" in the pronounciation, if i'm correct. Train yourself for the "ou"! XD). I asked that to a japanese player once.

PS: try not to put english comment if it's meant for jp players... They mostly don't speak english , they won't understand.

edit: no, it's not they don't like other people are on "their" game, they are really closed and they really have something against NA (they are not the only ones btw - not me particularly XD -)

I have heard that if you use actual JP text (katakana, hiragana, kanji) but you are on a non japanese account, JPs will sometimes GM you for 3rd pt tools. copy/paste from websites of japanese text is only possible if you use windower. If you want to put something in japanese in /seacom or in /tells, use romaji (alphabetical letters).

I'm from England, but i'm living in Japan and can speak very good Japanese, and i have the same problem. Because i have J E in my search, they instantly think oh he's got E there, he can't speak any japanese or understand anything. Can be very frustrating.
Japan is just quite a racist country still, they are very patriotic (even if they don't say they are) and really like 'Japanese' stuff. Some players don't mind playing with people from other countries and will be nice, some JP players just won't even give you the time of day to give you a response.
