So I was on my mule the other day making some arrows for my RNG and I wanted to see if I could get a better HQ rate if I got synthesis support. I was getting pretty decent HQ rates without support at lvl 78 woodworking without any gear or support. As soon as I went and got support I completely STOPPED HQing arrows. I did not HQ anything the whole time I had synthesis support running. As soon as support wore I started HQing again, the first synth after it wore being a HQ 99. This makes me think that synthesis support may gimp or even stop HQ rates, which I know is stupid to think, but it sure seemed that way. Any ideas about this?

I've always had better HQ rates with support assuming i was in a range where it brought me up a tier or helped my success rate

Random luck. The amount of synthesis you performed were too minimal to even have conclusive evidence on the rate of HQ with synthesis support. Even t3 hq is only 50% chance. 10/20 hq is 50%. 0/20 hq is 0%, then 20/20 hq is 100%, and those average to 50%.

Seriously, crafting is just random. Sometimes its good, sometimes its bad.

Haven't been synthing too long (alchemy 22) but from the few HQ I did manage it was with the advanced synth support, my corresponding elemental staff, weather day and facing the right direction.

I've yet to see any difference on staffs even after pretty much lvling all crafts to 60+ (sometimes more than once) and 1 to 100 and another 94 still

That's because you didnt synth anything with the wrong staff, on the wrong day, facing the wrong direction, supposedly.

Of course you're not going to get a HQ on that if you don't actually do them.

I've synthed 8/9 t2 hq anima on off day off moon w/e the hell direction I face (usually north because thats the directin of the guild npc) and just now i broke 5/7 anima on w/e the hell crafting timer I was on.

Yeah its a small sample but meh.

Crafting is random!

yes definitely random. I've had some really awesome low % hq's done wearing a rusty subligar and my yagudos hat compared to:

face this way, try on this moon phase, etc. Just as good a chance having someone sit naked on your face while you mash buttons.

Well, I hope that (other than for personal testing purposes) all you who don't believe in the directional influence of synthing still take the time to face a direction >.> even if you think its false, NOT taking the extra few seconds to turn a certain direction simply because you dont believe is just silly. Now, if you've long ago decided not to care, and just synth without a second thought - thats another story. Otherwise - should it cross your mind and you ignore it... well that's just stupid.

As far as miseko testing staves for the synths, kudos. I'd be willing to bet nobody here who said staves dont matter has actually gotten down to test it. Even if they have, if you feel it works for you - just keep doing it. Test it yourself. Hell, test moon phases.

While I take a rather neutral stand on the synthesis debate - I still take the time to turn a direction should I remember. And yes, in an effort to see results I've turned the wrong way. Even a completely unrelated direction.

Keep doing what you're doing Miseko. No reason to ignore something.

I'ts nowhere near as silly as a cat crossing your path, or stepping on someone's grave. Looking for results under any circumstances in synthing is anything but silly because it's proven in FFXI that days of the week, the staves, and other factors DO exist in some aspects of FFXI. As far as directionalism, I can't really think of anything offhand other than *potentialy* crafting that facing a certain direction could help. As such, with no proof of this existing in any other element of the game its hard to say this is plausible - but that doesn't mean you should ignore it all together. Take a second, turn a direction, and synth. No real reason not to.

Again, I am neutral in this. I just wish to provoke thought, and praise Miseko for doing her own thing. At the end of the day, at least she did something extra in the game to make it just a little more fun for her - and who knows, she may have a higher success rate than any of the people who ignorantly refuse to face the "correct" direction because they dont think it will help.
