For those looking for a FFXI Model Viewer or simply looking to update your .csv files for Altana Viewer, updates have been made at a friends repository.

https://github.com/voliathon/AltanaViewer

They've added everything up until the March-10th 2026 update. Yes, this includes Main Weapons (Primes and so much more...), Sub Weapons, Ranged Weapons/Instruments, Login Campaign stuff, Odyssey and Limbus Equipment, New Monsters, Mounts, NPC Organization, Old Content never before seen, Effects, and Explanation about the Music that can and cannot be listened to. Well over a 1000+ entries have been included. Lastly, they wanted to preserve the history of the application and the contributors. For over a decade various people have made contributions to Altana Viewer. Recognition of those updates has been recorded to the best of their ability.

During the month that they took out of their life to update the csv files they decided to create Altana Listener. This is a separate application used to listen to all of the in-game music for Final Fantasy XI. I've heard from other testers the quality is better than what you hear from within the game itself. Users can also create your own playlists, set favorites, and export those songs to .wav files. This application was created because they wanted to hear all of the music and get that nostalgia feeling. A note that if the XI Dev team creates new music, as long as it is a .bgw file and gets plopped into one of the sound folders this program will automatically be able to play that track.

Thanks so much for putting in the effort to update this!

I know it's not a straightforward copy/paste either.

Cheers, hoping this keeps up-to-update for future game updates such as the Limbus weapons!

Thanks for putting so much effort into this for the community, many other projects are built upon someone doing things like this.

This is seriously incredible. I'm able to see images from the game, that were always too small or shown too quickly. Apologies for my lame screen grabs, I don't think Altana Viewer lets you export these images (by design, I guess?)

There's a metric TON (almost 400) Tutorial Images. There's more JP than English. I guess some have not been translated yet? Maybe this exists in English and I haven't found it yet?

Does anyone know if the later versions of these are available in POL somewhere and I just forgot about them?

I think this image is from RoV but was also used as a post card merch item, from the Treasures of Vanadiel exhibit?

Maybe I'm have memory loss, but did SE ever categorize NPCs like this for us?

Would it be acceptable to allow panning of the viewing area? i.e. as a 2D image (Up, down, left, right?) I can't seem to properly center a model in the viewing area).

Hi Felgarr and thanks community. On the top-left you can click View and "Reset Camera" to recenter Phoenix. That will be your friend.

The Mouse, Fly-wheel, and Reset Camera is it in this version. Hypothetically if Altana Viewer got reworked from the ground up that could be a thing but it isn't open-source. I don't want to take a decompiler to this but props to anyone wanting to make that commitment.

As for the Tutorial Images and the Odin Image, all of those are animation believe it or not. What you can do is open up those specific DAT files with "Noesis". From there they will start to play. They're usually three frames. Pause it on the frame you want. You got options at this point. If it was me I would snip the image. You can blow up the image and retain the quality in Noesis. The other option is to export that .DAT to an animation file with Noesis and open it in some kind of animation program.

Where to view this in-game(The Tutorials)
You can actually still view these guide pages today within the retail version of the game:

  • Open the Main Menu.

  • Navigate to Help Desk.

  • Select Adventuring Primer (or use the text command /guide or /primer).

  • Browse the categories; this specific image is usually located under the Inventory or Storage sections.

That sounds cool unfortunately the entire application would need to be created from the ground up to do it. Altana View(er) is closed source and we can only update the .csv files.

Sobu Houou Kabuto, Amin Turban, and Ischkur Turban have been added for all races. Look for Sha'ir Turban if you want to see what Azimuth Turban looks like. Azimuth received no new .dat
