Hey everyone

Yes, FFXI already has a target lock-on indicator — but I found it a bit too subtle in practice, especially during movement or busy situations. So I put together a small Windower addon called LockIcon to make that state more visually prominent.

What it does:

Shows a clear on-screen lock icon only while target lock-on is active

Hides automatically when unlocked or when no target is selected

No menus, no UI boxes, no text rendering — just a clean, transparent indicator

Very lightweight and unobtrusive

It’s not meant to change gameplay, just to make an existing mechanic easier to notice at a glance. If you’ve ever wondered “am I actually locked on right now?”, this might be useful.

Feedback is welcome. Hope it helps someone else too ?

Cheers!

and license would more likely be MIT.

Is the whole GUI part of the addon or assumptions you use some form of HUD addon? Its not made clear.

if it helps someone though even with the vibe coded, that's nice and all but (and I'll probably get flack for this) should be transparent when used LLMs, maybe unpopular. Code itself looks to be harmless though.

I'm not sure what value it brings as game shows it pretty visibly when you're locked to a target but I like to play the GUI pretty vanilla.

Small clarification: the addon is licensed under Apache License 2.0, not MIT.
Either way, its open source - feel free to take a look at the repo.

If I had time and interest id do a hackathon to see who is the better coder ;) Unfortunately I dont have either. I use tools to work efficiently and share something useful.

I didn't say it was MIT, it was a suggestion.

I reacted cause you didnt put any license but "free to use for personal use Provided as-is for personal use." or something along those lines, using Apache 2.0 for a Windower addon is interesting to say the least.

Fair point, thanks for clarifying.
You’re right, the repo was missing a proper license at first. I have added Apache 2.0 now to make things clear.

No strong opinions on licenses, Apache just felt like a reasonable, straightforward choice.

Pretty sure purely gpt generated code falls into "public domain". The original author maintains copyright and chooses license to distribute with. Author being not a human in this case.

Thats actually a common misconception.
Even if tools like GPT are involved, copyright and licensing are determined by the human who publishes and maintains the work, theres no automatic "public domain" default.

Is that really the current state of the FFXI community?

That comment was about 1% serious.

I'd expect an XI community member to realise that. Is that really the current state of the FFXI community?
