Why did noone ever tell me this? I'm guessing that is new from when they made it where you could switch in between inventories when you're storing things. Didn't know you could do that.
good PSA
you can also swap between safe, storage, etc.. if you're in mog house and you can swap the right side, if you wanted to move stuff from one bag to another without going through inventory Cerberus.Shadowmeld said: » I'm guessing that is new from when they made it where you could switch in between inventories when you're storing things. They added it and did actually tell us about it once, but it's not like there is proper documentation of FFXI on their website. K123 said: » They didn't tell us anywhere?? They do drop many vague lines in the update notes. Probably they cover one thing or another during their digest. Otherwise, you can say its the 2000s spirit, of making everything obscure so players can have fun discovery stuffs.

I start spamming abilities when I hold left trigger when navigating inventory. Did you guys know there's a button you can hold to move the cursor faster across the map when you are selecting regions/zones. I can't recall which though.
Being that I'm one of those nerdy dudes who reads game manuals and stuff, I dunno if I saw it in a manual or anything. I may have accidentally discovered it or saw it in update notes when/if it was added (assuming it wasn't always there). I just looked through the manuals I can find. In my original ps2 copy manual (it's reasonably thick for a ps2 game manual), there's a similar function described for Play Online for scrolling up and down. But I couldn't find anything in the FFXI section about the alt/control keys other than macros. In the collectors edition for pc manual it also only has macro functions listed. Neither manual has any page dedicated to navigating inventories other than the original gives a brief instruction on when it says "select this" it means using direction buttons to select and press X to confirm. I can't find my Xbox version of FFXI case, so it's prolly in a box somewhere, so I can't verify it's not in that. I've always used a controller to play and holding the controller macro buttons (I believe L2/R2) do the same thing letting you page down through lists. I could have easily discovered it by mistake, but I'm pretty sure if they added it in an update at some point they'd put it in the notes. But that prolly would suck looking thru all the update notes ever. Have you guys checked the in game guides if there is anything. Under the macro and config entries somewhere in the menu is some "how to" stuff, though I can't remember the name on the button atm. Might be just "Help." I found both these shortcuts by pure accident.
^ Doesn't realise some people do other things with their life than spend 6h a day on FFXI or play every day of their life since the age of 13. Grow up.

I just assumed it was something they added through the years, and that people who have been playing for a while probably knew about it.

I didn't make this post to say that this isn't a potentially helpful tip, fine thread. I made the post because there were comments saying this was a "hidden secret" and that it was part of the SE mythos of being "mysterious" and how SE "doesn't document things" when this was an example of the complete opposite. Sure, it's only documented in some patch notes, but it's not as though this was some minor patch nobody was paying attention to. This was a HUGE patch which included 4 more wardrobes and several massive QOL things, including the recycle bin and this (which made the juggle from inventory to other places unnecessary). This was a fairly monumental update, and, as my post pointed out, quite well-documented and not at all a mystery for the playerbase to "come together to figure out, old school style." There is actually quite a large amount of documentation regarding shortcuts and commands including ones listed above on the PlayOnline website. Some things are listed in odd places and there are some links that no longer work but there is a large wealth of information for anyone willing to look for it.
Under the Play Guide tab select Game Manual ![]() The command to switch between different inventories can be found under Main Menu>Mog House and was added during the version update it was introduced. The manual is by no means 100% comprehensive but is still a good resource regardless. Additionally, for anyone that is not aware yet, if you type "/?" in the chatlog this will bring up the commands listed under the "Command Types" submenu of the game manual while in game. If you want to know more about a particular command you can type "/? (command name here)" and it will bring up a description and example of its use. You can use Shift + Tab to cycle targets into the other direction.
F8 targets nearest hostile NPC in sight. If none is in sight, nearest friendly is targeted. F10 targets nearest friendly NPC in sight. If none is in sight, nearest hostile is targeted. Disclaimer: Windower/Gearswap may fiddle with F10. Didn't know the first one, that could be useful. Have used F8 and F10 since forever. Have to spam F10 near home points that have dozens of people surrounding them.

This is the sub target marker on the floor when you move offensive geo spell target for example, ctrl+movement or L2+movement on controller.

It might change depending on your control scheme, I've never used compact keyboard, but with my control scheme you absolutely do not need to hold ctrl or alt to move a bubble. Cast a bubble, from any <st> command or from the menu, and you can immediately move the bubble with arrow keys. No additional steps or key presses necessary.
Think it varies depending if your macro has st or t in it. <t> needs ctrl or L2 on controller to move. St can always move but need to hit x/enter twice to cast the spell.
Ctrl/L2 is a modifier to turn target into subtarget. Obviously don't need it if you already have a subtarget. Menu spells always use subtarget. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "Ctrl is a modifier to turn target into subtarget". If you have a /ma Geo-Fury <t> macro assigned as ctrl 5...how do you use ctrl to turn that into a subtarget...?
If you have a <t> macro, it will fire immediately and not give you any choice to position the bubble. Not that this is super important, just trying to clarify for myself (and any others who read this, now or in the future). Whatever you're talking about, I've never experienced. |
