Just thought this might be fun to chat about.

FFXI has had so many bangers over the years, and has such a huge soundtrack, that I'm curious which songs live rent free in yalls head after all these years.

I've always been pretty partial to the Shadow Lords battle theme, that boss music is pretty epic.

But I have to admit the Sortie music is surprisingly quite the bop, when I first entered and that almost jazzy music kicked in it grabbed my attention.

Does sortie straight up have it's own dedicated track? Or does that song get used elsewhere?

This is honestly a criminally underrated part of the soundtrack, and I think part of why is cuz very little of the game actually has you spend periods of time in Aydeewa.

I wanna say basically the only endgame content there is just doing ZNMs, and thats about it right?

Meanwhile like every other mission has you going into Arrapago Reef. Feels like I spent way too much time running through that zone. Even today Peach Power sends you there if you need it!

Jeuno Christmas theme. Always reminded me of the winter vacation as a young lad with unlimited gameplay time

Probably a bunch of basic *** picks here, but Ragnarok and Wail of the Void, A New Horizon - Tavnazian Archipelago and The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah, Heavens Tower. Devils' Delight, which sounds like it's from a different game entirely but it's still catchy as hell.

That was going on the day I started playing so its got cemented into my brain.
Beyond that though the area tracks in CoP are just really nice all around

Lufaise Meadows
Tavnazian Safehold
Sea
hard to name a top among those 3 as ive listened to all 3 in the background for hours and didnt ever get tired of them, I'd say even promies/palace nail what they're going for very well in setting the tone of their respective areas.

Pretty sure currently sortie is the only place its used in, Provenence Watcher was the same til it got used 1 single other time with RoV. Dyna-d/omen/ambu are all dedicated tracks too i believe

XI has such a stellar soundtrack with majority of the themes being so beautifully crafted to suit the places (and battles) they're utilized. Difficult to pick just 1, so I here's my (pretty normie) picks for each expansion. There are some superb fight and boss themes too of course (Ragnarok is probably my favorite boss theme), but the zone themes tend to edge ahead for me.

Base game: Gustaberg
Zilart: Zi'tah
CoP: Al'Taieu
ToAU: Bustle of the Capital
WotG: The Cosmic Wheel (Sarutabaruta [S])
SoA: The Sacred City of Adoulin
RoV: Wail of the Void
VR: Goddesspeed (Sortie)

There are two another of my favorites, a recurring ending song that I already forgot the name, and the opening menu song from WotG.

That opening song was the first one that I heard while opening the game, only being replaced when SoA came out. But it marked me forever.

Gonna see if i can find those two names

The Vana'diel March is literally the reason I came back in 2017 after quitting in 2005. I couldn't stop mumbling it to myself all that time.

How much will everyone hate me if I admit I have had music turned down to zero volume since... forever.

I can't even remember last time I heard XI music that wasn't from someone else on discord.

I've had it off since about 2 years into playing, but I remember liking Rabao... about 18 years ago. Always listening to music or learning from YouTube videos in the background.

I too played for years with no sound, but can still hear them in my head when I visit a zone, easy. could also probably navigate from and to anywhere in almost every zone without a map.

Pretty understandable imo with how long people have been playing this game. I usually only turn ingame music back on if I'm doing something out in regular zones for an extended period of time for some reason. If I'm grinding content like JP/EP, HTBFs, Omen, DynaD, etc. I will 99% of the time be listening to band albums or other playlists.
