June 2025 Version Update
Two days until next patch and thread. Be patient.
Sortie is still much better than grinding purple dragons for months on end. but bumba is like a week grind if your group meets frequently and doesn't suck
sortie is literally an infinite grind Bumba you're waiting for stars to align. Meanwhile zero progress from failing over and over and over again.
I'd rather old school XP to 99 than do bumba v25. In fact I have old school xped to 99 in the past year. My group was going once a week - the months to kill Bumba are solely dependent on when your crew can try. Honestly could've killed it months ago if we went every day.
I honestly think Sortie is the worst content in ffxi by ten miles and anything is better, and I would gladly help people with V25 bumba if they help me do sheol C The running in Sortie is obnoxious. The fights are fine.
Add boss porters and you'd be able to finish sub 30 min. It would be a lot less miserable if it was just a boss gauntlet with zero running around. 30 minutes in and out.
But still miserable in that it's daily But if it was 30 minutes with zero incentive to farm and burn the entire time, then you can talk about storing runs Taint said: » Add boss porters For some, those exist already. But I think choosing which is worse, Sortie or V25s, is like trying to pick which flavour of ***is less offensive. Either way, it's still ***. Shiva.Thorny said: » but bumba is like a week grind if your group meets frequently and doesn't suck sortie is literally an infinite grind ![]() Actually, if you aim to complete Sortie, you're looking at:
If you earn 40k gallimaufry/run, that is 3,628 runs, which is 9 years, 11 months and 3 days. If you earn 86k gallimaufry/run, that is 1,688 runs, which is 4 years, 7 months, 8 days. If you earn 130k gallimaufry/run, that ...gets you banned. ![]() Also, I didn't factor in Ruspix because getting 1 run back/every 2-3 weeks of going every day, is just as gross as this entire exercise. I guess ask 10 different people get 10 different answers. the v25 atonement 3 fights were the best fights IMO. Truthfully the most fun and challenging single fights I have ever done and enjoyed. I still remember getting the first v25 Ongo down on Asura, and just like sweating all over watching the timer count down and trying to get the last 1%. Getting a double wild card luck, the silence on the discord on the last skillchain. Adreline took hours to wear off.

Oh my god...Playing FFXI (and romanticizing Ody v25) is exactly like being in a relationship with a narcissistic abuser. *** ...lmao. If you love it so much, why don't you go help the 90% of the player base that doesn't have it? ...oh god, I want to throw up. I encourage people using all sorts of speed/pos hacks in sortie
Hopefully they will see how often people do it and decide to never make *** dogshit content like it ever again Felgarr said: » why don't you go help the 90% of the player base that doesn't have it? There you have it. If it's so good why does not one want to do it ever again after clearing it. In Toralin's defense though (not like he needs my defense at all) I'm 100% sure he would be waaaaay more willing to help other people if you didn't have to spend segments. I'd expect content like that in a single player game that is meant to have an end (ie: Simon) new expansion with new assets, new zones, new battle content. only thing that would do it for me. I need to borrow some of that Draylo optimism!

If you love it so much, why don't you go help the 90% of the player base that doesn't have it? ...oh god, I want to throw up. Yeah those fights were terrible. We only did them to unlock the clears then rely on SCH burst / Ooze to RP farm afterwards. Like the concept of the fight isn't so bad, but the removing of SJ's plus the dumb under 40% regen was just not-fun. Bumba V25 was full on trolling the player base. It's definitely similar to a speedrun, but nothing like a human speedrun and a lot more like a TAS.
Except it's also not like a TAS, because TAS only using TPP to input the controls, not to change the rules of the game (POS hacking). It's like a TAS that includes game genie codes as well. It's interesting in theory, but once you include that level of automation and breaking the mechanics of the game, it's so far abstracted from the way FFXI is played that it doesn't even resemble being good at FFXI. It's showcasing being "good" at setting up bots someone else wrote. Like being a DJ.
You're not a musician, you're a record player, player Sortie can be fun, in limited amounts. Going non-stop is just exhausting but going a handful of times per week makes it a lot more bearable. Rimbus is super casual, some people hate that but I like it as a refresher and something to do when bored. Can make progress at your own pace, or also do it with friends without consequence or FOMO.
TASs are still playing the game and causing glitches from within the game. Even runs where glitches are allowed, you wouldn't be allowed an external trainer program (that's basically what tako is) that lets you just warp from 1-1 to bowser's room. Even when Arbitrary Code Execution is allowed, you're not allowed to just use a gamegenie to make the first step you take trigger the end credits. And so on.

Mediator (meh) Calculator/Astrologian (could be interesting) Chemist(heal via cooldown JAs, maybe has a focus on cooldown reduction stuff?) Engineer/Machinist (though Cor and Pup kinda fit this) Gunbreaker(gun based tank) Sage (heal via attacking, regenerating shield based healer) Viper (like a dot focused thf) Pictomancer (build up to and drop big hits) Carbuncle.Nynja said: » I've been using //buy item 0/1 number for god knows how many years now man, not even near the auction house. I highly doubt anyone has been getting pinched for bidder in the last decade unless: -they spam purchases quicker than the game would normally allow -they do bids away from the AH and get absolutely incredibly unlucky and a GM caught them in the act -they did other more nefarious things and used that as an excuse, which is not getting pinched for bidder I dont see SE pissing away subscription fees over that, FFXIAH's database estimates 85k characters, and a decent chunk of those are likely mules. I'm not gonna say no one in the history of FFXI has been banned for "making auction house bids nowhere near the auction house", but I will say anyone that has been banned for using bidder has more than just bidder on their rap sheet. Not saying I disagree with you, but this is the exact same quote people made before Salvage bans. Just sayin'. |
