Thinking about DNC AF/Relic...
AF is used for JA enhancement and extreme Acc builds for Steps. * Maxixi Head +3 - Step and Samba macro; has DW and Samba duration hasn't increased since +1 * Maxixi Body +3 - Waltz * Maxixi Hands +3 - WSD and Step, although if you have Nyame B you'd probably use those for WSD. * Maxixi Legs +3 - Not useful right now * Maxixi Feet +3 - Waltz and Jig (caps Jig alone) Relic is used for its augments and a random stat here or there * Horos Head +3 - Trance and Waltz * Horos Body +3 - Violent Flourish, NFR, and arguably WS * Horos Hands +3 - Enmity and Fan Dance (but not because you should only have 1 merit in it) - Not useful right now * Horos Legs +3 - Jig, WSD, (and Saber Dance enhancement, but they aren't good enough for it to be worth TPing in). Arguably you should use Nyame B if you have it. (Caps Jig alone) * Horos Feet +3 - Steps other than Feather Step, and for a TP build under specific conditions. The problem Relic + AF have together is that it's too easy to cap three of the things they enhance (Jig, Waltz, and arguably Step Acc), so incremental improvements to them won't matter. I say Step Acc because there's no real point in having a step acc build that's more than ~80 acc higher than your acc tp set. If you need 200 Acc and land steps and cap quickstep's -44 evasion, then you're still screwed for that fight. Presto gives a 50 Step Acc boost by itself and the AF/Relic +3 pieces already give +99 Step Acc, so more Step Acc isn't going to help. AF+Relic with Etoile neck +2 have you at +48/50 Waltz potency already. Jig caps with AF or Relic, so the upgrades to +3 just saved us an inventory slot and further enhancement would be pointless. If they just stat dump on the armors and add 1 to all special stats, AF hands maybe become better than Nyame and Relic body/legs/feet get more likely to be useful for TP and WS, but it doesn't really matter. +18% movement on all jobs pls
My prediction is Escha style augments. Each items get 4 different paths you have to choose from where each set has a locked A/B/C path and then each item gets a unique Path D. You get to pick one path per item and you have to farm eleventy billion points to fully upgrade the augment to max rank.
They'll deal with the increased inventory by releasing new mog wardrobes. I also expect PDL to start showing up on a lot more gear, the way DT did with Odyssey gear and Empy+2/3 gear. I don't really wanna use Lancer's Torque or Glassblower's belt to fill in some of the non-aug breath+, even if they are strictly speaking more breath potency. The macc loss for elemental breaths is huge, and There are defensive and HP uses for those slots for Healing breaths. And HB is already massive overkill in the amount cured most of the time. Because I'm cheap and because I like to have everything r/ex I hope the new gear outdates some of the buyable items left like Ea Hat +1. Doubt that specifically will happen but still.
The thing about that, if it takes you 20 hours of limbus to get it, it may not have a price but it still costs the same as the +1 hat

job exclusive effects get an increase of +1 or +2 and then add +12 onto everything and call it a day.

I'd like to see an Ambuscade style augment system for the AF armors. Something customizable beyond 4 set augment paths to branch out into some super unique options. Not sure if that's an option for the Relic armor unless they remove the augment abilities and put them on the gear itself.
+15~25 seconds to second 1hr abilities could be nice. I thought they would've add this with empy +3 but they didnt.

They shouldn't replace or outclass the theme use of empyrean, because that's how you just make more power creep, but rather something that opens up optional play styles for each job.
For NIN, it would be nice if one set (or a mixture of all 3) was more focused on magic/burst damage, another set mixture with ranged stat boosts would be cool too! I don't want them to just "be better than empyrean", I want them to open up variety, so that all the sets and each item in them has value to unique aspects of play. But this is SE, they don't play the game, so they don't really have a good understanding of how we play each job, and what each job wants/needs. Not like they used to anyway. So I am keeping low expectations to get anything more than the same stats power crept up more. Edit: all NIN gear needs "dual wield" replaced with "augments dual wield". NIN doesn't need dual wield gear at all anymore, ever. (Except for maybe Gokotai idling I guess) So.... Yea I guess we can keep our DW gear..... I guess.... I hope there are Refresh+2 piece for each of the mage jobs. Maybe even one piece per job for both AF and relic... wouldn't really reduce the number of ***to carry around but would at least have better defensive stats than Chironic or Merlinic.
