360 players that have XI fully patched up until closure. Your files are needed.

In my seemingly never ending effort to get even v1 merch preservation up on bgwiki, I noticed that redump.org was incomplete with some of the XI physical discs missing.

Note that redump doesn't host any actual game files.

As I was/am working on filling in those blanks there to then reference details on bgwiki, I asked the redump community some Qs as it was my first attempt at doing this, and they mentioned they have been on the search for the digital Xbox 360 update files for preservation. The CDN for the XI files went offline and those update files have been lost.

This doesn't seem like it will be very difficult, but will require just a bit of PC knowledge.

What's needed:

1) Xbox360 that has FFXI fully patched up until shut down.

2) Remove the HDD, connect it directly to a PC via SATA or indirectly via USB adapter, and use FatXplorer.

3) Copy over "R10000X" and "R000XXX" folders within "Content\0000000000000000\53510000\00000003\".

Simple.

The folder "Content\0000000000000000\53510000\00000003\" may only contain POL&XI files, but specifically there should be a lot of "R10000X" and "R000XXX" folders. R1 is POL, R0 is XI. The "X"'s are placeholders, so there would be R10001, R10003, R000102, R000111, etc.

If this is something you think you can help with, or need a bit of assistance, reach out here or to me directly and I can get you with the folks over at redump.

Some additional info:

Feel free to ignore/inspect folders "R100002", "R100003", and "R000199" as they may contain PII data.

Best way to know is if you played when the server was shut down. Otherwise,

R000100 is FFXI's root file (patch.ver and patch.cfg)

R100000 is PlayOnline's root file (patch.ver and patch.cfg)

The ver is date formatted.. 360 was released in April 2006 and the initial version was 40060401_0, and 360 was shutdown in March 2016, so it would be something like 40160301, maybe.

I might actually have this! I'll have to dig out my 360 and check.

I definitely do if the thing still boots. But the drive isn't easily removable on the model I have.

No idea if you can do it with the HDD still in the system or not. If anything, be careful if you do turn it on and go into POL/XI, I think instead of Play/Update, it turns to 'Uninstall' now.
