I didn’t quite understand whether this is, if needed, completely permanent with all its stats, or just with its appearance? Quote: This is not something that you'll want to use to just casually change your character's appearance, so be careful when making any changes. However, I think this is welcome news for those of you that have been wanting this feature for a while now. We are also working on an official webpage to launch alongside it, so be sure to take a look for more details once it goes live. This is most likely referring to losing access to racial gear, or things like that. Ok Would like to change to galka ofc within all stats
I cannot wait to change from mithra to elvaan
I'm so excited I may actually pay to resub when it is released it doesn't seem real to me first of all I understand the majority just wanting to change but not having an ultimate character then I think of my case having an ultimate character as a mithra doing all the work as a mithra then just getting to switch to elvaan having so much done i've come to the conclusion the game is completely different depending on your race I fully believe different races get things easier and harder soloing, party play, obtaining items, exp, everything and to get to build to ultimate on one race then just get to entirely change races could be placebo things like taru is a better mage galka is a better tank elvaan has bad acc etc then having that change the rate you get groups if you've played taru for 15+ years then you can just change to galka it's going to be a completely different game lol I can't wait to see how much more acc i'll need to add to my tp set switching from mithra to elvaan if it's going to be like 5 or 20 always been obsessed with high lvl elvaan bst but when I did level elvaan bst I found it so much more difficult than mithra bst now I just get to have a mlvl 40 elvaan bst lol already got mlvl 40 mithra bst I don't think I could mlvl 40 a second char for elvaan bst. it's too good to be true very exciting I'm not trying to harsh your buzz or anything, but I think the difference in accuracy will likely be <5 and also...what content are you doing where you're fine-tuning your accuracy by 5s?
I wish there were more data about the difference in stats between the races, maybe this service will help shed more light on it (please record all your stats before/after race change!) but I think the general consensus is: your race is totally insignificant other than aesthetics, socializing, and camera angles. In the year of our lord 2025 nobody should be saying "galka is a better tank" or "elvaan has bad acc". When the highest DEX you could possibly hope to achieve was 90 and your HP capped at 1600, sure...but now that we have 4000 HP and 500 DEX, getting 2 more from your race is completely irrelevant. Racial stats aren't important and haven't been for a very long time. It's been around a decade or more since s-e leveled out stats from racial differences, and gear has such insane stat vomit nowadays that all races perform equally in any role. FFXI is about gear not base stats. The differences between the races aren't very big, to the point a single upgraded accessory is enough to bridge the gap, let alone a better piece of your main armor slots.
Mithras are the best sex worker in game.
Galkans are the best slaves. Tarus are the best sacrifice and food. it's burnt in like a bad plasma screen burn. I think that is true of all the classically held believes about the races in the game.
SE may have reduced the delta in stats but they had already influenced how we all feel each race performs in the years of game play we had before the change to the stats. So we are going to hold on to that framework, not to mention they did not completely eliminate the difference they just made it less impactful so the believes still hold to some degree. The amount of grind and gil people spend on one extra str, to say the race difference is nothing is silliness.
It was being discussed not even all that long ago because taru int is the supreme kaustra caster. Only way race stats don't matter is if they are literally the same.
They are not. SE had a chance to normalise them and didn't. Of course there are differences. 5 int or 5 str or whatever is 5 you did not have before. Haha, you will be remembered from the Ballista vids! Yeah, Ballista was a blast and added such a fun twist to the game. I feel you on the 60 cap nostalgia—sadly, it does seem pretty dead these days. if here are (asura) any Ballista LS feel free give me pearl.
Fenrir.Niflheim said: » SE may have reduced the delta in stats not removed And if theyre gonna implement race change, they should revert the changes. They would still be minimal with all the stat vomit and ML bonus, but it would be less minimal. If they reverted the stat difference smoothing, I think taru would become basically unplayable. Tarutaru monk would have less HP than hume summoner, and with everything designed to catch the whole party in constant aoe and hit like a truck through damage taken gear... basically any taru tank or damage dealer would need a dedicated white mage, who would need a crack team of therapists to put them back together after every fight.
Have they mentioned at all how this would affect gender-specific gear, like DNC's AF?
I assume you mean looks wise, not gear locked to specific genders.
If you change to a mithra your dnc AF will look like it looks on a mithra, obvs. What are you expecting? Elvaans in drag dressing up as Mithras? Ew. I can't speak to end game content, since i haven't bothered to bring those mules into anything beyond oddy and maybe ambuscade. the stat differences between races as a mastered job are at most 12 I believe. comparing the int of a taru blm to the int of an elvaan blm. the biggest difference you will see here is 11 magic acc, which is hardly game breaking. this change has more to do with the role playing side than actually dramatically effecting game play. the many stat balances and stat boosts given by gear, food, spells, abilities and master levels makes those race differences smaller as time goes on. 99999 is still the damage cap. so a taru hitting a 99k savage won't suddendy hit more by becoming an elvaan. Quote: Have they mentioned at all how this would affect gender-specific gear, like DNC's AF? Gear appearance replies solely off the models in the .dat files for each race/gender. For example, if file path to the model for Mithra's nyame body was ROM/310/117.dat, and the path for Galka's was ROM/310/52.dat, then race changing from mithra to galka just means you use the latter instead of the former. Nothing more. Model viewer and Altana viewer have been around for decades now. We know how in game appearances work. Gender specific gear is no different than any other gear. Every piece of equipment has a specific dat file the model is stored in for every race/gender combination, and the game knows exactly where to find each. Quote: Theres two sets of each piece, one for males, one for females. Which corresponds to two separate .dat files, with slightly different file paths. Males will always use the version for males, and females will always use the version for females. ALL male and female equipment has its own dat file actually. Taru male versus taru female is always different. Hume male and hume female is always different. Go download altana viewer and you'll understand. yeah I didn't consider the stats had been made more equal across the races
12 isn't too much but it's still something I was expecting like 20-30 for say mithra dex compared to elvaan dex short sight on my end reading the posts after mine brought this to my attention Yea, the question is still how they deal with it. Will they alter all DNC AF to the correct gendered piece on your account? How about lv30 and lv60 RSE, RSE earrings, etc?
Ideally, they should do a database operation to convert all DNC AF1 to one of the id sets, remove the gender restriction, map the models, and delete the other set. For the pre-75 gear it's more likely you just can't wear it and you'll have to quest it again. Asura.Melliny said: » Which corresponds to two separate .dat files, with slightly different file paths. Yeah but the gear in the game should be unable to be equipped if it is male only or female only. so if you are a high level dancer and you're say a mithra but you wan to be a galka, do you need to do all your AF upgrades again? i suspect SE will say "Yes" Asura.Melliny said: » Which corresponds to two separate .dat files, with slightly different file paths. No, you are still not understanding There are literally TWO pieces of equipment In game equipment This is what it looks like on my humeF: ![]() This is my humeM: ![]() If the race change is a backend change that affects the character entirely (stats, access to RSE quest, access to the bar in jeuno, the ebon panels, etc), this gear will become unusable in its current state for males that become females and vice versa. If it is a cosmetic change that will just alter the looks of the char but they still retain their original race/gender, then it wont matter. Yeah, try changing your gender with DressUp, then equipping your DNC AF. Game won't let you. I'm hoping they just remove that check when they implement race change.
If you are a blm and there were two neck pieces, and one had +8 int would you wear or would it not matter.

Game won't let you. I'm hoping they just remove that check when they implement race change. I suspect this is one of the reasons the race change feature was delayed. This is correct. Males can't equip the female versions and visa versa, and Dressup DOES prevent you from equipping your own gear if you change to an incompatible option. Getting the race and gender locked gear to transition as easily as possible was probably something they had to look into. There are race specific quests with flags associated with them and other character data that coincides with your race too. The final chain's of promathia quest for example, tasks each race to run a different rout through the grand palace. All of these might potentially have to be accounted for. Billykull said: » Yeah, try changing your gender with DressUp, then equipping your DNC AF. Game won't let you. I'm hoping they just remove that check when they implement race change. They didn't pre-emptively mention this with the announcement, willing to bet they didn't account for it at all, and when people aren't able to wear their DNC AF+3 and report it on the OF, they will remind you that they warned you about making this change, but now since cards are cheaper, you can make a new set of AF for your newly recognized gender and toss your old set. |
