Someone please tell me why +1's are so great?
Simply tell me a great explination why I would rather spend the gil ona +1 then buy the lower version.

Are there hidden effects? Why do people freak out for 1 or 2 stats more?
Or is it more for a status to show you have gil?
Lol, I'm trippin someone explain :D?

The easiest way of explaining this is to think of gear sets. A couple of extra stats on a single piece wouldn't make a noticeable difference. However, when considering a collection of pieces, a +1 STR and +1 DEX boost on all of those pieces will make a visible difference. Piece by piece, you might not think it's worth the price tag, but if you upgrade every slot of your gear set, it is, because you get a bigger overall stat increase.

That is what seperates DD's from "the best" to "the average". No offense meant with this comment to anyone, but 20 STR difference between two SAM's is pretty noticeable on weapon skill damage.

As for the Haubergeon +1 in particular, it's a 10% HQ chance at best and it's about a 200-300k loss per NQ:

10 Synths:

Costs 3mil to make, you sell all the NQ's for about 2m, you lose 1m if you don't HQ. With a 10% chance over 10 synths, you should HQ one. We all know it doesn't work that way. On Garuda, the going rate of a +1 is roughly 2.8m. This means that if you HQ the 1/10 you're supposed to, you'll have:

-3m
+1.8m
+2.8m.

= 3.6m.

Net profit of 600k. It's expensive because otherwise nobody would bother making them.

And this profit is assuming you HQ. I have gone 0/12 on one session, 4/9 on another. It's purely luck based, hence the high price tag.

Let's look at another example. Scorpion Harness HQ offers 2 Evasion, 2 Accuracy and some other ***I can't be bothered to look up over the NQ. The price tag might not seemingly be worth it for such a small boost, but the reason that is is because of the cost to make. Like all worthwhile items, it's low odds. If it was high odds, they wouldn't be worthwhile.

On Garuda:

It costs about 150k to make a Scorpion Harness right now (price of V.Claw has really slumped over here the past couple of months).

It's a 10% HQ I believe? So that means 1/10 chance of HQ, so for every 10 synths, you should HQ once.

10 synths = 1.5m to make.

You sell the NQs at 90k each on Garuda, which means you make 900k back from the NQs.

So if you NQ 10/10, you lose 600k gil. If you HQ one, you sell it for 450k on Garuda. So then you have 810k+450k, = 1.26m gil. You've lost 240k gil even when you've HQ'd once. You'd have to beat odds and HQ twice or more just to make a profit.

That's why +1 items like this are so expensive. Crafters have to make profit or they won't bother! And because they have to make profit with 10% odds, they have to mark their prices up.

The thing is, it's not 1 or 2 stats more.

Haubergeon+1 gives +1 STR, +1 DEX, +2-3 Attack, and +2-3 ACC.

That's like asking "why do people use Flame Rings instead of Garnet rings?"

Because it's just plain better.

It's not so much HQs are so much more expensive, it's NQs are so much cheaper due to excessive supply.

Normally, those +1s are a final touch to your setup and are about all you've got left to upgrade. What else are you gonna spend gil on?

Buying Euvhi soulplates from the bazaars next to Sanraku. @_@

As for HQs, I don't even think it's about there being so many NQ's. The market is setup that you'll more or less always lose money going for big synths on NQs. I can only think of one synth where this isn't the case (Corsair's gun), and it's not even from my field of synthesis.

To be honest, I want to upgrade my Sapphire Ring to Aqua or Star not for the MND/MP, but for the looks.

I like the icon of Rajas much more than the Flame Ring I was using, so I got Rajas initially just for the icon over Flame. Bear in mind back then I was BLM BRD COR RDM NIN... lol. Now I have Rajas since I DD more than mage, but still... Was pretty sad.

Better is better. It may look like a small difference, but take that small difference on each piece of +1 gear. Then you have a much larger difference in total.

If you couldn't be bothered to read my posts, at least read this one from Vegetto. It's basically a tl;dr version lol.

Both, for different occasions!

here's a secret: +1 items can have latent hidden +2 if the item is +1 & SIGNED by crafter.

Depends on how you want to play nin. If I were to play the job, would be in a DD fashion, so I'd have no use for it. It holds its merit in solo though, imo.

SH is a 33% HQ chance when you got 61 LC + advanced support.
