FFXI Icons HD v1.2

A high-quality icon pack for Final Fantasy XI, offering a complete visual refresh of many ability, spell, and status icons — redesigned in HD while staying true to the game's original style.

Approximately 75% of the icons have been visually overhauled to improve clarity while preserving FFXI’s aesthetic.

Features:
  • Redrawn HD icons for better visibility on modern displays

  • DAT and PNG versions included

  • Fully compatible with XIPivot and addons like XivParty

  • Transparent backgrounds, consistent sizing, and clean style

Screenshots:

Installation:
  • For XIPivot:
Create a folder (e.g. IconsHD) at the following path:
    <Your Windower Folder>\addons\XIPivot\data\DATs\IconsHD
Inside that folder, create the full subpath: ROM/119/
    Place the file 57.DAT inside.
Then add this line to your pivot.txt:
    /addons/XIPivot/data/DATs/IconsHD

  • For XivParty:
    Copy the buffIcons folder into:
    <Your Windower Folder>\addons\XivParty\assets\buffIcons

Download:
Download FFXI Icons HD v1.2

Notes:
The pack includes both the DAT file and numbered PNGs for use with tools like XivParty.
The PNG and DAT versions are now perfectly matched for consistency across all uses.

If you have any feedback, suggestions, or icon requests, feel free to reach out!

Credits:
This pack would not exist without the contributions of the FFXI modding community over the years.
Since it's hard to track the exact origin of every asset, I’ve chosen to credit everyone known to have contributed to HD UI and icon mods:
  • KenshiDRK – Creator of the original FFXiView, a key foundation for many icon mods

  • RadialArcana – Maintainer and refiner of XiView-based HD UI packs

  • TeoTwawki – Contributor of HUD and DAT tools via GitHub

  • Ashenbubs – Source of high-resolution textures used in some mods

  • The wider BG/FFXIAH modding community – For sharing resources, icon edits, and support over time

If I’ve forgotten to mention anyone, please let me know. I’ll be happy to update this.

Thanks again for the support!

Hey Tetsouo, love the Icon pack!

I was just wondering if it was possible for you to upload the file(s) with all the numbered .png files to your git as well. That would let us paste them into XIVParty and use the same icons for the party buffs/debuffs there as well.

Thanks.

Hey! I’m currently working on improving a lot of icons, especially those specific to jobs like Berserk, War Cry, Last Resort, and so on.

I’ll be reinjecting them into Dat 57 soon since I’m mainly testing them on XIVParty for now. When I do the update, I’ll definitely provide the numbered PNG for use with XIVParty as well.

Beautiful icons. Noticing from your 1.1 rework release that the .pngs are not matching the ones you have in the dat. Bard songs and rolls in particular stood out in my trial run. Any chance these are all made to be consistent?

I really like your icon work. I just wish I had better vision to appreciate all of the finer details.

I personally wish there was an status icon update that wasn't so well detailed. Yes, more pixels = better, but something about the additional details here is making it harder for me to me to differentiate them?

I think all of the custom icon packs have added additional layers and depth, that don't help me to identify the status effect faster. I'm not very good at explaining it. Perhaps, someone with more artistic talent than me can probably explain it.

But yes, if I still had 20/20 vision or didn't need glasses, I would use these.

Not trying to hijack this, they do look great, but to respond to Felgarr's question(s):

My take on what you are describing is the time delay in our brain's ability to abstract useful information. More colors, color gradients, smoothed edges, small size and complex shapes take more subconscious processing power to recognize and reduce to useful information. So in effect there is a tradeoff between being pretty and rapid abstraction of info. And then your brain memorizing that. Additionally, FFXI also moves the stupid icons around as they wear on and off.

To what you are describing - a simple crisp character/object/letter/shape and solid color for each icon would be what you are looking for.

(And if you recall the sneak/invis addon I wrote, it reduces those to solid colors and a fixed location on my screen - instant information abstraction)

FFXI HD Icon Pack – Update & Notes

Thank you all for the feedback — I really appreciate it!

I've reuploaded the full pack with both .png files and DATs, making it easier to use with tools like XIVParty.

⚠ Note: There may still be some inconsistencies between the PNG files and the DAT.
I restored the PNG folder because it was requested, but the current DAT is from an older build than the PNGs.

Current Work in Progress:
I'm reworking every icon individually to ensure everything becomes consistent and unified.
There are about 600 icons total — some are quick to update, others much more complex.

Before pushing more new content, I will first standardize everything that’s already done, so the pack is fully usable in its current form.
There will be multiple future updates as I continue improving the rest.

On Visual Clarity:
I'm doing my best to make each icon instantly recognizable, even during fast-paced gameplay.
If SE's original icon was already clear, I try to preserve it and simply enhance it in HD.

On Style & Identity:
I also want certain icons to retain style and personality.
For example, for Paladin, I’m not just using a generic blue or green shield —
I try to design icons that visually represent the ability’s purpose as clearly as possible.

On Icon Logic & Legacy Conventions:
Some icon groups — like FFXI BG’s song icons — already follow a well-established and intuitive color logic.
There’s no reason to change that: players have internalized those visual cues over the years,
and reinventing them would only create confusion.

Of course, working in 32x32 pixels is always a challenge — SE didn’t make it easy for us! ?

? Feedback welcome:
If there are any icons that feel unclear or problematic, don’t hesitate to reach out —
that’s exactly what this project is for. :)

Thanks again for the support and helpful comments — I’ll keep them in mind for the next updates.

Update – May 2025

I’ve updated the original post with a fresh release.

The DAT and PNG versions now fully match — there are no longer inconsistencies between the two formats.

There’s still a lot of work left to do on many icons, but the pack is already fully usable in its current state.
It covers all the most commonly seen buffs: BRD songs, COR rolls, and general party effects.

Feel free to give it a try and let me know if anything feels off or unclear!
