I think this would be cool, and easy to offer? Keep the 3 stars. Use a color system:

Master: 1 2 3 gold
0-3M ML: 1 purple lighting, 2-3 gold
3-6M ML: 1-2 purple, 3 gold
6-9M ML: all 3 purple

9-12M: 1 Ice white, 2-3 purple
12-15M: 1-2 white, 3 purple
15-18M: all 3 white

18-22M: 1 black, 2-3white
22-26M: 1-2 black, 3 white
26-30M: all 3 black

There was no real need to write that out I guess. Eventually you succumb to the dark side!

I honestly didn't know there was a way to turn them off. I see it so much I don't notice whether people have them anymore. I'm surprised the game doesn't give you badges/medals for each 5 MLs. Like ^ Private, Lieutenant, Captain, etc. Would be easy to implement and less gaudy than 3 giant floating stars.
