April 2022 Version Update
Yes, it is possible to enter and have one chest already 'discovered' as a rainbow chest. This happened to me as well. mars orb fwiw
Shichishito said: » if we pretend someones reputation is instantly destroyed after the first scam, which it isn't cause it's a word against word scenario, you could also inverse the situation and falsely claim you've been scammed. that market would be dead pretty quickly. so you probably can pull this multiple times befor no one trusts you anymore and then there is still different time zones and language barriers that restrict word of mouth which leads to more scam oportunities. Ok...if you want to believe orb scamming is a thing then go ahead lol. I've heard of all kinds of scamming in FFXI. KC scam, oboro clones etc. Just not mars orb sales. If it's a thing then at least someone would said something in discord, or post on forums, or yell in public channel. Shichishito said: » ofc there are more profitable scams but for the bumba clear one in your example you'd need at least 4 buddies or multiboxes or find a fool that pays befor you assembled the party. Finding 4 buddies to split 200m is still WAY more profitable than making 3m alone. :P Shichishito said: » it is a trust based trade and you need to be aware of it befor you engage in it. There are way more trust based trade in FFXI everyday: selling CP/ML, selling gears, selling Odyssey clears....etc. All of these services cost far more than mars orbs and happens way more frequently. And for whatever reason people are worried about getting a scammer from orb sales but not every other more expensive transactions? That's kinda weird lol. I'd worry about Mercs took my 50m then run than an orb seller took my 3m. Also just FYI,even if orb scammers exist, they don't even need to pop the orb. They can just take your 3m outside of BC and force d/c. So any additional steps to stop them from disbanding party or D2 after they enter are not necessary. anyone knows what map # to mine for TVR last mission in cauldron or it is random?
of course losing 50 mil to a scammer sucks harder than 3-5 mil but losing none is even better.
with the introduction of gold and rainbow chests that apparently can spawn without opening chests there might be higher potential for scams than ever befor. with 3rd party tools the seller could check chests for rainbow spawns due to having a headstart zoning in and the buyer would never know he got scammed. Question: Has anybody used an Amplifier following the emergency maintenance? Are they working like before?

No its not possible. If Rainbow chest spawns at start, then you can see it without any tools. If you open 8 boxes, then one of the 2 remaining (the one that isn't mimic) turns to gold or rainbow (its not hidden gold or rainbow from start, any chest can become special, when only 2 are left). i'm not sure but this post
Asura.Lobbi said: » The rainbow chest can be already popped when you enter the battlefield. ![]() ... and it was the loud thud. if that's true someone could position warp to chests to check for rainbows and back befor the buyer zones in. maybe a list of the spawned chests already loads on zoning and you can check for rainbows without relying on pos warp, i don't know. It can, but you've still not explained how the seller knowing there's a rainbow chest first lets them scam the buyer without them knowing in any way. The seller knowing there's rainbow chests doesn't help them in any way, let alone open up some mysterious secretive scamming method.
So read this entire thread, still cant find confirmation on belligerent bang.
A few saying it is an indicator that there is a loud thud on the field, someone saying it means the mimic is next... Is it now more profitable to continue to open chests even after loud thuds? given the amount of ***they added into loud thud pools, and the chance at receiving a rainbow chest as well? Or still the same, hit Loud thud and pop gold? I had a nice haul this morning from 60 silver vouchers.

When asking about Belligerent Bangs, Greyson hints that it appears after opening 3 chests, and indicates whether or not there are any LTs left in the battlefield. It's not mimics, since every battlefield has a mimic, and people have proven that their next chest was not a mimic. It's LT indication message. the likelihood of a rainbow chest containing something more valuable than the 3mil for a orb is pretty high.
befor the patch negotiating the gil transaction happens once drops entered loot pool would have seemed very accommodating from the seller and trustworthy for the buyer. now the seller probably could check for rainbows, change his mind and cancel the deal. since there was no gil transaction there wouldn't even be a case for a GM call. if the gil transaction happens befor entering the BCNM the seller could disband party in case of rainbow pop to prevent buyer from entering, then fake a D/C after he got drops and pay back gil once logged back in or offer a second orb to make amends. Anyone get the sash or ring yet? :)
You can't do the first because seller can't check for rainbow until after he's already traded the orb and made it useless. He can't "cancel" because the gil has already been traded.
You also can't do the second because it's impossible to claim to have disconnected if you're opening chests. Disconnecting takes 30 seconds or more to actually leave party, meaning the buyer would already be in zone, and if the seller opened the chests, they'd be put in a completely different area afterwards. KujahFoxfire said: » RP farming as we speak, working fine now. Phew the scam isn't saving the orb, it's knowing there will be a loud thud befor the buyer does which opens up the option for seller to take the gamble with odds in his favor since a loud thud is granted.
i don't remember if you spawn back into the BCNM or the exit area when force D/Cing inside a BCNM and logging back in. depending on where you spawn the seller can be busted by a cautious buyer in the second scenario. Lakshmi.Cesil said: » Anyone get the sash or ring yet? :) Got Sroda Ring on double Loud Thud (one from the gamble boxes and one from the Terminal Coffer). Shichishito said: » Asura.Geriond said: » That's impossible to hide from the buyer. You said it would allow the seller to scam without the buyer knowing they were scammed. 1: The buyer pays the seller the gil, and the buyer enters the battlefield. 2: The buyer sees a rainbow chest. 3: Then what? If they do nothing, that's a normal transaction. If they disband and open the chests, the buyer would know they were scammed. "You hear à belligerent bang from one of the remaining treasure chest" what does that mean ?
Odin.Senaki said: » Mars or Venus? Yes, this question. PLEASE NOTE YOUR ORB TYPE when reporting on drops or mechanics, we don't yet know whether Mars/Venus work the same way. Previously it seems that Venus just had a higher % chance of thuds/loud thuds than Mars. Now, there might be other differences. Loot pools, likelihood of belligerent bangs, likelihood of rainbow boxes, etc. |
