Gotta keep in mind that FFXI isn't like other mmorpgs that have regional servers (NA only etc), almost all the players on most games are likely to be on during prime time and so concurrent prime time numbers are a good population check. That almost never happens on XI, cause it has JP, NA and EU players on the same servers and they have different time zones.
This is why even a "small" server with 400 people on, actually has 600-700+ if it was a regional server and everyone logged on at the same time. Asura is far more ridiculous that it appears to be, and from a server management perspective it could be very bad. One of the reasons populations seemed higher in the early years, is cause we were all teenagers and had no jobs etc so NA, EU and JP players were far more likely to overlap and be on at the same time. I think the number of people that leave their chars logged in near 24/7 even if they only play a few hours a day is higher than ever and a strangely high proportion of players on FFXI vs other mmos.
Of course many are afk MLing every day too, and the game is designed to encourage that so... It's comfy coming home after a long day and hearing XI music ever so faintly growing as I descend the stairs. The point remains though, XI servers are multi regional and so concurrent players is not accurate for this game specifically. If you check player numbers at US prime time you're probably seeing 70-75% of active player numbers. There are quite a lot of JP on Asura, and you don't ever see them if you have a normal schedule in the US. Of course, i play everyday after lunch like 30 mins or so then i go back work and back on evening. I dont wanna waste 20 mins to loging-in every Fu** day; i always hated the POL platform for log in game!!!

XI allows you to remain online without penalty or auto disconnect, and the login system is a slog. Combine that, you end up with people never logging off. (Mostly bad)

Within reason that Database page is only inaccurate by 7 Days. if someone quit in 7 days, and their stuff sold, obviously they are going to be flagged as active, if someone's stuff hasn't sold for a long time nor brought in 7 days, they'd be inactive flagged, but could still be playing. i wish i had been gathering this data for years as there was some pretty interesting population bumps every free campaign, and like i said a few of the servers really have spikes that others don't i.e odin also sunday morning NA time appears to be when the most people are online across the entire game - if anyone was curious We had our first non-mastery point RMT shout spam today on Ragnarok. Dude shouting for everything under the sun. Some curious folks got his prices: 80m or $40 per 40m Sortie run, 150m for a Gigelorum v25 clear.
I think he is going to go wanting for clients. Ragnarok doesn't exactly have a lot of deep pockets and we already have Ejin who mercs pretty much everything. Just amusing that this ***has fallen to Ragnarok already. Flame war ignition;
Rag would be the one I pushed to become the new/returner population center. Because all you have to do is have Ejin's stream on muted for free mercs and that's incredibly valuable. You won't find help like that anywhere else as easily. Odin is a bad idea. 80% JP it's the same as playing on any of the other bottom 12. They're going to push it anyway. And I'm certain the chat will say I said this. Hi chat. Phoenix has a pretty healthy population of NA 'players' that use the latest tools and group up, making it a decent option for people who want to do the highest content without paying for it. Though, I'm curious how many people who still want a huge server didn't already commit to Bahamut or Asura. There are some returners who missed the boat, but I gotta figure anyone who hasn't jumped ship yet is probably not going to do it now.
It's the constant churn of new players and players that got banned starting anew looking for nu-Asura to do it on.
See the constant reddit posts asking this very question. Previously the answer was Asura, then Bahamut, now Odin. Hi guys, I recently returned to the game along with another friend and are trying to figure out if nowadays there is a server good for european players... is there still any or it's just USA+JP mostly?
We are right now in Quetzal but during our prime we are just around 270 users online and 2/3 is just afk or multiboxing. Thanks a lot, not sure if this is the thread I should ask >_< Sent you a PM

![]() Sunday morning is generally peak and I keep forgetting to post updates about this, as people may find it interesting here is all servers, i'll work on readability at some point ![]() my main takeaways from this are that bahamut growth has stopped, asura is about to where it was before the mog kupons/free campaign and odin appears to be slowly becoming a new landing zone, although all servers in general have seen a tiny bump planning on tracking this through the holidays/free campaign that is probably slated for december (have they announced this yet?) as those are always interesting times for user population. i'll post back after both those happen |
