So as some of you may be aware, Derfie's family reached out over Facebook to let Derf's friends and fans know that he has died due to traumatic brain injuries sustained from brain tumors which Derfie dealt with his entire life.
He was a guy that just wanted to make everyone laugh.

Lol I still remember the shennanigans that lovable clown would shout out during besieged back in the day. Browsed some of his vids on youtube and they did take me back to memory lane in seeing all of those players i used see/play with. Rest in peace broder, you will be missed :/

Thank you so much for posting a remembrance for him, I had a feeling FFXIAH might have shared the sad news. Phillip aka Derfthegalka was a sweet, kind hearted soul that I had the pleasure of calling my best friend for over 24 years. So I remember when me and him used to make pranks on forums, and I remember of all the forums, FFXIAH was the most welcoming and enjoyable because he loved each of you for the laughs. I know he can get on your nerves lol but sometimes we need that moment of dumb from our adult lives.

FF11 to many of us is more than just a game, it's very much like the town we grew up in. So reading of one our past or present community passing is always very sad to me in a way I never really feel with any other game, whether I knew them personally or not.
In a way, because of how we see peoples avatars as overlays of themselves it's like the person passed and also the character that represented them.
I've had a friend I met in the game pass away many years ago, and also just lost contact with people that meant a lot to me in FFXI too. One of the great things about the nature of the games world is that while roaming around doing your daily routines, you'll get little happy moments of remembrance of them in memories triggered from those places.
Rest in peace Derfie and any other of our fellow Vana'diel kin that may have passed over the years.

I was just reading the replies- and especially about how we interact online behind avatars as overlays to our true selves. Fact of the matter is, we are all human beings with families and friends. FFXI was/is a once-in-lifetime game- 'wow' we get to interact with people all over the world! I made so many connections and memories I still do this day hold dear my experiences in this game. Look, Derfthegalka was over the top LOL and objectively I see all of the points- I even told him to not overdo it because I didn't want SquareEnix to ban! But anyway, seriously thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. These passed few days have been the worse- but this helps with sense of closure and remembrance.
