I really think they're just having every Intern at SE design some goofy weapon for FFXI as part of their testing to see if they're ready to become full employees.
The ones that made these bonanzas are from the employees that didn't make it.

You seem to be missing some info but its like Utu grip it adds a 10% MND mod to weaponskills, still ***though when we have Trishula as a weapon. You know, unless they actually plan to make these things available to players at some point down the road through normal conventions this is a catastrophic waste of development resource time. They better.....

They better..... Exactly. They whine about not having time for anything, yet they have time for this. Its better not be walled forever.. Of all the weapons in this round, only Flametongue looks appealing. Tizona owners would rejoice for this.
Doubt it would beat TP+1000, but still....an ilvl option that boosts all WSs and breaks damage limit? Leviathan.Celebrindal

They better..... Outside of the "They better", couldn't agree more. Your playerbase is begging for a new challenge, and they answer with lotteries. And not just a chance at existing rare items via that lottery, but actually spending time to design, develop and test new weapons. We all know they've got limited resources- how 'bout tossing them at content which would be available to any player, not just ones who happened to win the Vana'diel powerball. Fenrir.Melphina said: » You know, unless they actually plan to make these things available to players at some point down the road through normal conventions this is a catastrophic waste of development resource time. They better..... Id hardly call it catastrophic as most of them are a reused model with ilvl stats on them which doesnt take much effort at all. The only ones that do take some time are the Gun, Club and Katana as they have unique models. Quetzalcoatl.Wakmidget

Cure potency II +20% on PLD? :0
Quetzalcoatl.Wakmidget said: » Cure potency II +20% on PLD? :0 I rather have my Burtgang than that sword. Quetzalcoatl.Wakmidget said: » Cure potency II +20% on PLD? :0 Sadly only 5% of that is actually going to be used as the cap on Cure Pot II is +30% and Majesty gives PLD +25%. Asura.Beatsbytaru

Isn't II additive to I? So like if I only had 35% cure pot, would having cure pot II cap cure pot + excess? The new Katana looks somewhat interesting.
AoE Utsusemi, which could potentially land on the whole alliance (who knows). Either way I can see uses in it for content that requires shadows, but where DD want to go a sub other than Nin. Just have the Nin spam Utsusemi haha. Edit: With Ambuscade Cape and Empy Feet, Nin gets 7 Shadows using San. If the formula is as suggested on the weapon of '-2', then it means a Nin could fairly easily give party members 5 shadows. Yagyu Darkblade DMG:156 Delay:227 DEX+30 Accuracy+40 Ranged Accuracy+40 Magic Accuracy+40 Katana skill +269 Parrying skill +269 Magic Accuracy skill +269 "Utsusemi" effect extends to an area "Utsusemi": Shadow image of party member -2 Lv. 99~ NIN Odin.Senaki said: » AoE Utsusemi, which could potentially land on the whole alliance (who knows). Just for the sole fact that: Quote: "Utsusemi": Shadow image of party member -2 It pretty much spells it out. Or, on the more realistic side of it, the back and feet only give the wearer extra shadows.
Meaning the AoE utsusemi-san will give those party members in range 3 (5 -2) shadows. King beat me to it. :D Leviathan.Celebrindal

If it merely let others in the party to match their /NIN shadow count yet come /DRG or the like, its pretty insane.
and nobody go crazy about the way to get this katana ?????
You have to win loto to get it, F.... Serioously ????? Don't forget that they're actively writing/developing A Voracious Resurgence right now, and working on other content as well. These Bonanzas seem to be more akin to a login campaign type thing rather than actual content. so this means if I die on COR because of no shadows I can blame someone else! YAY!
Katana super cool and totally pointless at the same time. Unlimited useless shadows with zero dps loss on the receivers is pretty hot. Except that shadows work on literally nothing.
Plus you know that whole actually bringing a nin thing.... Asura.Eiryl said: » Plus you know that whole actually bringing a nin thing.... Yeah, we get it, it's not exactly the best DD job out there. It doesn't mean it doesn't have it's uses, and it can MB really well. A NIN who is paying attention can boost out damage like nothing. Lakshmi.Buukki

The precedent that sets is going to be pretty awful. In order for you to ever get an invite on NIN, you have to have this Katana. And it's lottery, so good luck with that. So dumb.

Except that shadows work on literally nothing. Plus you know that whole actually bringing a nin thing.... You are totally wrong on this one and wrong a lot. This is another stereotype that is 2019 really. With 2021 meva available for most jobs, it's physical damage and add effects that a treat. When are people dying now as DDs? To op physical damage like fell cleave from ms war in dyna d or other WSs from fomors, or OP crits,tp moves from boosted NMs in Odyssey or from endeath in ambu etc. Shadows works for many things, but are generally hard to keep up as /nin while still trying to keep dps. When someone else can give you shadows tho, thats whole other story. Also shadows hitting 6 targets is totally game breaking hate tool. It's by far the strongest hate tool in a game and it's a buff, so works for everything that have you on hate list. It's ideal for hate reset too, because you can keep getting hate back while providing shadows for party members having hate after it was reset on you. This katana is total game changer for nin tanking. Not sure how anyone with base knowledge of ffxi mechanics cant see that. Offline

Asura.Psylo said: » and nobody go crazy about the way to get this katana ????? You have to win loto to get it, F.... Serioously ????? At least 3 people in past 2 pages including me several times. The katana is pretty busted and it could revolutionize ninja and do a lot to help bring it back into the fold. But it doesn't matter because you can only get it via the lottery, and many of the people who do win first will want to pick a different prize. Gating unique equipment that can provide combat benefits behind a lottery doesn't really help the playerbase since only a small fraction of a percent of them will ever get to try them out. That's why I said it's a huge waste of the developers time.
