Hello everyone! After such a long break I wanted to come back strong! Aegis was a real challenge for me, both designing and production. I did my absolute best to create a shield that was life size, but maintain the lowest possible cost. It wasn't easy... My first iteration was a bit larger and was going take 11 days to print all the sections... The design that is out still takes me almost 5 solid days of printing. For this reason there will be some differences in selling this shield.

The shield will be sold in 4 sections that are held together by 1/2" dowel rods. The shield will also include 8 resin printed gems to be glued to the shield. All parts will be sold un-assembled.

Important information about ordering
Due to the time required to create this shield, the shield will only be available in the store when I have one created. This means shields will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. If the shield is sold out, please message me to see how soon the next one will be available.

Ah, just what I've been waiting for! Now if my boss ever tries to Fire me, I'll only take half damage :)

Are you even making a profit at those prices?

I noticed you're using SolidWorks on one of your other products for sale, are you modelling all the FFXI stuff in SolidWorks too?
I do make a small profit on these prints. My goal is to make them as available as possible for people while still making enough to make it worth doing. If/when I start making weapons from other games and things, I will definitely charge more. I basically don't charge anything for my design time right now. I really enjoy being able to contribute this stuff to the FFXI community and I want to be able to keep making them for people.

Yes I am using Solidworks for everything... which is half the challenge for me. Solidworks is not designed to model artistic things like this.

I've been thinking of learning Blender or some other similar software to make this kind of work easier. This stuff really does help build my Solidwork skills tho

It doesn't look quite right without the tears flowing from its eyes.

That's what I thought - definitely a challenge. Even Rhino or something else with sub-D tools would be easier for the detailing.

I thought you'd be selling these for prices in the 100s. People pay that for memorabilia.
^ this.
@Drayco: All one needs to know how to import, export and apply subd in Blender. As you can see, it can improve models (it's just a 2* subdivision)

I've played around with the vanilla models using Metasequoia and Meshmixer. The problem with all the vanilla models is they were never designed to be created in real life. Zero thickness in lots of areas, absolutely no 3D details, things floating in space. They're useless as far as 3D printing goes without a ton of work. It was easier to just recreate.
edit: I also feel safer using my own models since I am selling these. Absolutely no assets from the game are used other than a screen shot to get the rough shape.
