I don't know if this would even be possible, probably not but I'll ask anyway.

FFXI makes mipmaps on the fly (mipmaps are smaller versions of each texture that are swapped in as you move away from an object to stop shimmer). It does not do what almost all other games do, in having them premade and stored in the data files and just loading them in when it loads the main texture (ps2 hard drive space limitation), it forces the CPU to make these resized textures every single time you come across an object for the first time. This causes hitches unless the textures are very small, even with these small vanilla textures you still notice it if you know what it is.

The best way to explain it I guess would be, if you have a windows folder with a lot of images in it. Windows makes a lot of thumbnails, normally windows makes a cache of all those thumbnails so you don't have to make them every time you open the folder. If FFXI was windows, it would not have a cache and instead just force you to endure making them every single time.

Anyway what I was wondering was, would it be possible to make a cache directory in the windower folder that stores these mipmaps the game itself makes (or premade ones) so it does not have to keep making them and instead just uses them from this cache folder? So the first time you come across anything it will still hitch and be forced to make those mipmaps but from then on it would never have to make them again for that texture.
