BGWiki - Issue Reporting Thread & FAQ
Around 1am EST Ragu just started redirecting all traffic from bg-wiki.com to old.bg-wiki.com for the night because of issues. Hopefully tomorrow the loading errors have been sorted.
Feedback on the recently upgraded BG-Wiki site - Many thanks! Browsing is noticeably faster and much more responsive than before, from a user based in the Middle-East.
Much appreciated! Bahamut.Balduran said: » Feedback on the recently upgraded BG-Wiki site - Many thanks! We are working on a few things such as tabs (main page and user page) and tooltips (HTMB page) so we are hoping to get back to normal within a couple days. Offline

While not a pressing issue, not being able to click the bg wiki logo to return to the main page is more annoying then you would think. Also yes I know you can click the FFXI wiki button but for years it was the logo.
Will old.bg-wiki.com/bg work forever or at some point will stop having new info/pages?

https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Promathia_Mission_5-3 (it works properly on old bg, just giving you the heads up) Asura.Bippin said: » Will old.bg-wiki.com/bg work forever or at some point will stop having new info/pages? This will be killed soon, about two weeks we think. It is already locked to editing, and new edits are not being shown over there. No tabs work (including main page) right now. We are hoping the css and javascript changes that were made last night fixes tabs and tooltips. There is a 24 hour or so delay for these to update due to the cache settings. Annoying, but it used to take a week (literally) before. Offline

Major nuke of the sidebar length/links. If something is missing that you liked having there, please speak up and we may be able to add it back.
Everything removed is still either in the site notice (top "section" on every page) or the home page. Did a link you frequently used in our navigation disappear suddenly? Do you have 20 wiki pages bookmarked? We have the solution for you.
If you are logged in, you can now create a custom navigation section. Simply edit the page "https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/User:Username/Sidebar" with any links you want, and they will appear on your navigation! Here are some examples of links with proper formatting. Examples of code to put in your page. All of the below are for demonstrative purposes only. You do not have to add any of this, just follow the formatting. You only need to add one box. * Custom Nav <!-- Name the title anything you want! This is just an example --> ** Ambuscade|Ambuscade ** Ambuscade|AMBU! <!-- You can customize the wording after the "|" to display anything you want like this. --> ** The History of Final Fantasy XI|FFXI History ** User:Funkworkz/Sidebar|Edit Sidebar <!-- Multiple words are OK, replace this with your own username of course --> * Ultimate Weapons <!-- Multiple boxes can be added! Make a new header with one "*"! Name it anything you want! --> ** Mythic Weapons|Mythics ** :Category:Armor#REforged_Armors|Reforged Armor <!-- If you link to a category, use a ":" at the beginning for safety to ensure the link works --> * External Resources ** http://www.ffxiah.com|FFXIAH <!-- External links are supported! --> This is exactly what the above example looks like Quote: Disclaimers: You need to use the asterisks (*) and pipes (|) as shown above for proper formatting, or your sidebar will not appear correctly. Additionally, the red box above is only in this screenshot for emphasis. Feel free to PM me if you need help, I can edit the page for you if your having difficulty.

Can we request a rollback or SOMETHING for certain pages of content/guides that were just eradicated (BLU and DRG guides for example), because one prominent "mod" or whatever who wrote them decided to "quit" and take all his ***with him.
(I hate having to talk in vague terms like this, but one non-mild, but tangy jerk is the elephant in the room. I want to try to avoid as much of the drama as possible, but probably going to happen anyway). Are there any rules to prevent mods or people with power from going rogue and just deleting their content wholesale for no reason other than they can. Offline

Normal users cannot wholesale delete pages. It has to be a mod. Mods can revert changes done to wiki (say a bad actor vandalizing pages, like on Wikipedia, etc.) Bringing this into the light, bringing it to the attention of any remaining mods of the site, people in charge, etc. Offline

take your concerns to bg not here, nothing can be done from ffxiah. pretty sure his privileges were revoked but I don't know about getting the guides back.
Honestly the biggest offense here is the 1-119 quickstart guide. There's an archive.org link in place now, but that leads to other issues (it's a very hyperlink intense guide, and the archive versions leads to the problem of pages taking forever to load and some thing seventually becoming outdated), along with the obvious fact it's not safe from just getting removed again.
New players are hard to keep as-is and guides like these are essential to provide some kind of guidance to those wanting to give this game a try, especially with the XI-focused content coming in XIV's new expac, which will inevitably make some peoples try out XI even if just for the story. I myself used this guide back when I returned, and have used it to help a bunch of completely new players I pulled on the game over time. Had they not have something like this to somewhat keep themselves on rails among the overwhelming 20+ years worth of directionless content, the great majority would've quit before they got past their free trial. Peoples have said before that it's ultimately the guy's call to remove his own guides and that peoples were wrong to put their trust in anybody, but I honestly disagree with that take. At the end of the day, had this person not made any of these, someone would've VERY likely made em at some point in time. Peoples just decided not to given there was no point in just making the same guide but like, again. Them making the guide then taking it away on a whim just because they had a quarrel completely unrelated to the peoples who would actually need those guides cannot be justified. If they're so keen on quitting, just have someone else take the reins to edit the guide and credit them for the original one. It's really not that deep. Quickstart 1-119 is "restored"
It requires an extra click now, not a big deal. I'm guessing Funk and Chiaia gotta do all the work to fix stuff? :'(

All the words we've waste here discussing something that isn't in our control, would have easily re-written better guides. Just sayin'
